GT500 Original Equipment. This Ford Finned Differential Cover is the same exact one found as original equipment on the 2013 Shelby GT500 with the Track Pack option. Designed with cooling fins to reduce overall gear oil temperature to improve gear and bearing life, this Differential Cover features fittings for differential cooler pickup and return lines, as well as an oil temperature sensor.

Finned Aluminum Reduces Heat. Constructed from light-weight cast aluminum the Ford Mustang 8.8" Differential Cover features a finned design that dissipates heat much faster than the stock unit to prolong the life of your ring and pinion gears.

Recommended Upgrade. When changing your differential cover it is recommended to upgrade to fresh Royal Purple Synthetic Gear Oil. You will need 3 quarts of Gear Oil.

Application. This Finned Ford Differential Cover is designed to fit the 1986-2014 Mustangs equipped with the 8.8" solid axle rear end, including the 2011-2014 V6, 1986-2014 GT, Bullitt, Mach 1, BOSS, Shelby GT500 and 1993-1998 SVT Cobra. It will not fit 1999-2004 Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) equipped SVT Cobras.

Technical Note. The Installation of the Differential Cover may require longer bolts as the factory bolts may be to short.

I have a 99 F150 with the 8.8in rear end. Will this for my differential?

MatthewE

  • Since you have the 8.8" rear end Ford did not really change up there rear ends much. We would not be able to guarantee that this part would fit on your F150, however, there is a good possibility it will.

After installing this will it still take the same amount of fluid or will I need more? How much fluid should I need

Logan

  • This diff cover will have the same capacity as your stock one. You should not need any more fluid than normal.

can this be painted?

Logan

  • You can paint this diff cover, though it will be subject to different terrains and weather conditions because of its location. The paint may eventually chip off.

Can these be painted? or at least clear coated?

Logan

  • While it is possible to paint this, I would recommend leaving it as is as the paint will start to bubble and peel when exposed to high levels of heat.

    Disappointed

The cover is great. How ever the customer service was awful. All the lady did was make excuses. When asked for supervisor put me on hold to come back and argued. Asked for sup again placed on hold. All she did was make excuses and lie. 1 the spec,s your website states for the plug thread is wrong. Its a 11m fine thread or 7/16 fine thread. This was discovered after I had already went to 3 hardware stores and 2 fastner speciality shops and the Ford dealership. AM charges 146 for this part no plug supplied the Ford dealership charges 90 bucks for same part with plug supplied. I took the one from AM in the box to Ford . They brought the same one in the same box all part numbers the same made in same place supplied by same buyer opened it ford me and there was the plug. So cover is great. AM customer service horrible. I have spent alot of money with AM the past year. Not sure I will buy agan from AM anytime soon..... Anyway I hope the correct thread size will help you guys so you don't have the same experince I did.

Good Cover - Make sure you Order the Right One!

The cover is great and fitment is tight with an aftermarket panhard bar (about 0.5" clearance). MAKE SURE YOU ORDER THE RIGHT ONE. AM has a couple cersions of this and one of them is the COVER ONLY! NO HARDWARE came with it so it won't go on because the factory bolts on the factory GT cover are too short. You will also be missing the vent plug. The bolts are UNOBTAINIUM! If you find them at a dealer, they want $16/bolt for 10 bolts so the bolts locally cost more than the cover

    watch out for installation issue

awesome cover. looks like it will do the job keeping the diff cool and the drain/fill plugs make servicing a breeze. would have gave this item more stars if it wasnt for the failure to mention 1) panhard bar needed to be removed for clearance to install, 2) the stock bolts can be used but will only hold the diff on with 1-1/2 threads so make sure u get longer bolts, and 3) comes with a sweet block plate for he temp sensor on top you probably wont use, but the block plate doesnt fully cover the hole so there is a good chance fiff fluid can exit through the hole. they should have shipped it with a cap or bolt threaded in since most people wont have a temp sensor to thread in there. other than a few things to be cautious about and WERE NOT MENTIONED IN PRODUCT DETAILS OR ANY OF THE OTHER REVIEWS, its a solid diff cover.

    Bolt-on Cool

This is a nice piece to help keep your rear axle gears cool for longer bearing and axle life - like it a lot since we take our Mustang out on long road trips. Added this at the same time as gears, so install was not timed... but easy to install since only ten bolts and gives you a fill plug. Unit is vented, so you may want to plug the vent in this cover or plug the vent in the axle (as you need only one of them open). You will need longer bolts and a gasket (though silicone can be used and many say lasts longer). Looks great from behind, letting people know there is more to your car than they may have thought...

    Fairly inexpensive insurance.

I've purchased two of these.... The first, I got from Ford Racing, and the second, I got here, at American Muscle... for $80.00 LESS! It's made very well, and is WAY more substantial than the cheap, stock stamped steel cover. The fins DO keep the differential cooler - at higher speeds. The BEST thing about this cover, for people who like to MAINTAIN their rides... With its two plugs, it makes for VERY easy gear oil changes! ~ Carmine

Unit itself is great, needs new hardware

I didn't realize when I purchased but when while installing the cover, the factory bolts wouldn't reach far enough. Be sure to purchase longer bolts before you install.
