Quality Construction. Constructed from durable Aluminized 409 stainless steel for it's corrosion resistant properties, the Ford Racing V6 Performance Dual Exhaust kit includes the same exact mufflers that were used as standard equipment on the 2008 Bullitt Mustang. The mufflers feature 3.5" diameter polished 304 stainless steel tips for cool retro muscle car looks.

Fitment. This Ford Racing Dual Cat-Back Exhaust System is designed to fit the 2005-2009 4.0L V6 Mustangs and includes an X-Pipe for both more power and a more aggressive sound.

Technical Note. Installation requires minor modification of rear bumper cover for the tips to exit correctly; a template is included in kit.

Is this ford system 50 state CARB certified ?

why exactly won't this fit on the 2010 mustang? I heard it's a mounting issue.


  • The 2010 changed body shape and style slightly and with that the mounting points are not in the same place as well as the length of the tubes are also different.

I have a 2007 Mustang with a single Exhaust and Muffler.. I'm looking at changing to the Ford Racing True Dual Exhaust (05-09 V6). my question is. Will I need a second Catalytic converter, or will this work with the existing set up from the single pipe exhaust system. are any other parts required. Thank you

    The only V6 exhaust to buy

    I purchased this Ford Racing Dual kit after having my exhaust ripped of my car in a freak accident. I had the Pypes Dual conversion kit for the 2005-09 model V-6 installed. Let me first start by saying I bought the Pypes without any prior knowledge of exhaust, and when I received my Ford Racing kit, I was immediately able to spot the differences in the kits. The Ford Kit screams quality from the bumper set screws, to the aluminum bumper guards, to the pipe thickness gauge, to the clamps. The Ford Kit installed in a relaxed 4 hours or so with a lift and welding in the x pipe. The kit comes with enough clamps to just clamp in the x-pipe which I suggest to try. The clamps are the best quality available and will hold. The same can't be said about the Pypes brand kit. Thin pipes, low quality clamps, and not the best tone, and noticeable drone. With this Ford Racing kit you will get a good sounding exhaust kit that is easy to install and is the best quality, and a great easy upgrade to your stang. The only reason I gave it 4 stars for volume is that it is quiet. Far quieter than the Pypes kit, but it sounds much better. Much more like a stang and not a ricer. Great tone at all RPM ranges. I highly recommend this product. You get what you pay for, and this kit was worth every penny. AM was great as always. Keep it up guys.

    sweet exhuast

    This is awesome!!! Took it to a shop paid 150 and 4 hours later there it was. It is the best looking dual exhaust you can get and keeping all ford on your mustang is a huge plus. I personally love the sound its louder but not over the top like the riced out hondas. 5 for 5!!! ALL THE WAY!!!!!

    Excellent Upgrade

    I like everything about this exhaust system ... it looks great, it sounds just right, the power gain is noticeable, and a DIY installation is not out of the question. Here is some advice for the DIY'er:1. Make sure you can jack the car up high enough to install the mid-pipes. I put my car up on ramps (front and rear), and still needed to jack up the rear of the car to gain enough room to work the mid-pipes over the rear axial. 2. Use a reciprocating saw with a 6-inch metal cutting blade to remove the original mid-pipe. 3. It is not 100% clear in the instructions … but, you must remove the passenger side CAT from the exhaust manifold to install the X-pipe. The instructions also indicate to loosen the driver side … but, I did not find this step necessary. 4. Make sure you download a set of instructions from the Ford website to obtain a clear pattern for cutting out the access holes for the muffler tips. The patterns that came with the kit were not usable. 5. Have an 8x1.25 MM tap on hand. You will need this to tap the holes already in the body to mount the muffler driver's side mounting brackets. 6. Each of the two (2) muffler brackets are set up with two (2) mounting holes. The kit only supplies two (2) screws. You can obtain the other two (2) screws from the original muffler. It has a third bracket that is not used on the new muffler … use its two (2) screws. 7. If you are working alone, expect to spend about 8-hours installing the system. Less time if you have help, and less still if you have the use of a lift. Finally, my buddy has a 2008 Mustang Bullitt … we could not hear much of difference between our exhaust sound.

    V6 dual cat back exhaust

    Installed on our 05 convertable, had profeesional help, we painted the bumper cut-outs body color to match, everything fit like a glove. For me the sound is just right, not too ratty. Highly reccomend Ford Racing Kit.

    Good choice to go with

    I choose the Ford kit over the Pypes and Magnaflow kits for a few reasons. First, from my understanding, its the same exhaust that Ford puts on the Bullitt edition Mustang. Second is it a complete kit. One would say the other two are as well, but most dont think about the fact that you have to have the rear bumper cover cut to allow the new left exhaust to come out the back. Either that or you get a GT rear bumper cover. But the Ford kit includes a template on where to cut the rear bumper cover and also includes two covers to go over the cut to add a nice look and to hide the ugly cut. Another reason to choose this kit over, lets say the Magnaflow, is this is actually going to give you sound and a few horses. The Magnaflow kit just attaches to your current Y-Pipe and is just going to add better sound, but not better airflow. Lastly, I think my city driving MPG has gone up by 1 or 2 MPG. I also have a BBK CAI, BBK Throttle Body, and tuner. So its most likely a combination of all four things together.

    Great Set Of Pipes!

    The pipes look great! I put them on in a friends garage. - a lift is the ONLY way to go with this kit. Took us about an 1.5 hours - but it was pretty straight forward and the instructions were right on. No drone, no vibration. I do feel a little bit more power. My only dig would be that it is quieter then i expected but honestly the sound is great with a good muscle car rhythm!

    Fix for Resonance

    I bought this kit about 8-10 months ago (wish AM had sold it back then cause I would have bought from them). I had it professionally installed after having a GT bumper installed to avoid having to cut the stock V6. I had the same problem as Ken with a really annoying resonance at around 2k RPM. Wasn't exhaust drone but more like a rattle. I got to looking and the 2 driver side mounting brackets were only held on by one bolt each rather than 2 like the stock passenger side and they were vibrating against the frame. Went to Lowes bought some bolts and fixed the problem. Checked the inventory list from Ford Racing and they only stocked the kit with 1 bolt for each of those brackets. Check it out that very well may be your problem and its the only reason I give it a 4 instead of 5.

    I had a hard time to find a dealer who would install it (pretty scary!) so I ended up doing it myself. Instructions are pretty clear, everything is provided, it is just time consuming and not really comfortable to work with Jack stands instead of a lift. Anyway, it is installed, sound is excellent, look is really good. I have a V6 convertible and I was affraid of loud noise or vibrations. None of those just more guts to the car: can be nasty when you want while still being quiet when needed. I would definitely recommend product to convertible owners.

    V6 Dual Exhaust

    Great product. looks beautiful and sounds wonderful. i had the system installed for 200 bucks. well worth it. make sure the 2 bolts from the original hanger are used on drivers side. my mechanic left them off even after i told him and provided a copy of the install instructions. had to remove the muffler a week later and repair. also gained about 4 mpg. all in all worth every penny. definately reccommend.

    V-6 dual exhaust

    i bought the ford racing dual exhaust to keep my mustang all ford payed 200 dollars a have local shop put it on they said they took there time four an a half hours later it looks great sounds good not to loud some defference now need to put cold air intake and tune it what i here great up grade thums up here

    Ford Racing is the way to go!

    This is the Ford Racing V6 Performance True Dual Exhaust Kit. It came with X pipe, mids and Bullet mufflers and all mounting hardware. All I had to do was cut the Y pipe out and mount this bad boy up. Not very hard to do, but don't try this at home. Unless you have a lift, you can't get the mids out and back in. I chose Ford Racing over the others because of the "true dual" exhause and because I knew the quality was going to be there. The sound is freakin awesome. Check out my clip at

    Worth every penny

    My Mustang got rear ended and my exhaust was destroyed all the way up to the Y-pipe. My insurance guy suggested that I have this and a GT fascia installed and just pay the difference between it and the stock replacement. Had it over two years now and it's great. My average MPG went up from 24 to 26 and it sounds great. For the $300 I spent, I'm sure I've made it up in gas.

    this is perhaps the best buy for your mustang if you want it to sound good it took around for hours to install and came out amazing the templets for the cutouts look great dont waste you money buying a gt bumper because this looks way better only problem i have had is that when i frist got it the hangers made a rattling sound that was a little aggatiating that got fixed for free EVERY V6 OWNER NEEDS THIS

    I would have put these on myself but i dont have a lidt. Looks awesome on my 07' Mustang. And what can i say about performance? Sounds awesome and have noticed a big change drive. I will admit that i was expecting something louder but overall i am happy with my purchase and wouldnt change a thing. GET THIS ITEM!!!!. Well worth the change you spend.

    Nasty resonance

    This system looks good and sounds great but it has a loud resonance sound {drone} at 1200 rpm that is very irritating. Ford dealership can't fix it.

    You get what you pay for...

    Ford Racing true dual exhaust is well worth the money. It fits, sounds good (stock + louder smooth sound), and gives you a slight increase in power/response. Other kits sound a bit overdone. This kit comes with everything needed to install the exhaust easily in about 4-5 hours. Instructions are simple and include cutouts for bumper. There are also protective plates included for the bumper which enhance the style if that is what you like. Overall I would give this system a 10 for fit and getting what you paid for.

    Great Exbaust

    I purchased this kit and had professionally installed by local Ford Dealer.Especially pleased with the bumper flanges that prevent having to but GT bumper cover,Sound great.Not real loud, but very deep mellow sound,unlike some of the v-6 kits that make cars sound like rice burners.A+ Product and as usual A+ Customer service from American Muscle.

    Just What The Doctor Ordered!!

    This was a little project for me and my grandsons. Installation was no big deal. Only tool that I needed that I did not have in my toolbox was the 8-1.25 tap for the hanger bolts. So there was no extra installation cost. Took about 6 hours, even with their "help". We just jacked up the rear end to the limits of the jack stands - about 22". Jacked up the body only – let the axle hang down. That was more than enough to work the midpipes over the axle. Left the front end on the floor. It did take two sets of hands to hold up the X-pipe and get the Y-pipe marked properly, but we got it cut perfectly. Did have to completly remove the exhaust pipe from the right side manifold. Fortunatly, did not have to even loosen the exhaust pipe on the drivers side - very difficult to get to the bolts. It also took two sets of hands to get the X-pipe stabbed into the left exhaust and the right side back on the manifold. I was surprised that the muffler hanger bolt holes on the drivers side had to be tapped. And there was no hole at all on the outside for the back muffler hanger. So that hanger is only on with one bolt. I made my own bumper cut out template by tracing the right side and mirrow imaging it on the left. Cut it out with a jigsaw and a fine blade. It turned out perfect, so I did not use the Ford supplied covers. Unless you get down on your knees, the cutout looks like it was made that way. Had a little trouble getting the tips to fit equally in the cutouts and extend the same distance from the bumper cover on both sides just due to the tolerance in the midpipe bends. But thanks to the supplied clamps, the adjustment can be made even if the Y-pipe cut off was not perfect on both sides. I thought there might be a vibration problem from some of the previous reviews. Intially, there was that resonance/vibration issue around 1200 - 1400 RPM like others had reported, but once the mufflers broke in, it went away. All I can say now is it was fun doing the install, and the looks and sound are just what I wanted. Great mod. Well worth the extra money, and my “Stang is still all Ford. The quality is there, and AM was excellent as usual with the order process and when I had questions.

    Quality Looks and Sound

    Quality Looks and Sound. I love the way the mufflers look and sound. Ford Racing is the way to go the GT Mufflers are great. I do suggest a lift for puting the exausht on. I use a friends and he had a welder so instead of taking off the passegers side manifold we cut the X pipe, then welded it back together. MUCH EASIER The bumper was very easy to cut. Just measure twice and cut once. I am very Pleased.
