Application I've scoured the internet looking for recommended methods of application and found nothing. Do I apply this gear by gear with a brush or do I just toss this in at the same time with the diff fluid?

    SeminolePride

    • It's designed to be poured directly in to transaxle case using a limited slip differential also referred to as a "Posi" meaning both wheels spin when power is applied. I would suggest pour entire bottle in first then pumping in your new fluid fill just below the fill hole plug. Check your year and model for specfication on filling level and fluid requirements. You may notice a faint noise from the differential for a few days until the new fluid and additive impregnate the clutch pads and it will go away nothing to worry about.

Can i add this to my car without having done a gear change or replacing the gear oil

    Stangnation

    • I would not recommend adding Ford Performance Friction Modifier unless you are changing your gear oil, it is added in as a ratio with gear oil.

Is friction modifier good for a manual transmission gear box?

    Mushtang

    • We would that a friction modifier not be used in a transmission. If your transmission is in need of an additive, such as syncro-mesh, or any other additive, we would recommend it be manual transmission specific.

    • Yes. You will need a bottle of friction modifier at each gear oil change.

      Friction modifier

Great product, and easy to put in. Feels like the rear end is rolling smoother and there is no noise. Both tires light every time now even when doing clockwise donuts. Good product

      Friction Modifier

I bought this when I installed my 4:10 gears. I also installed new carbon trac - lock discs at the same time. Ford wants you to soak the carbon discs in this modifier before installing them. They also specify adding 4 oz to the rear diff along w/ the new gear oil. If you zoom in, you'll notice that this bottle only contains 3.8 oz to start with. After soaking the discs, I could only salvage about 2 oz to put in the diff. Not willing to go light, I ended up buying another bottle. If you're upgrading your trac-lock, grab an extra bottle.

      Seems to work

Replaced an axle and refilled with RP gear oil and this friction modifier. Not sure if the DAM was necessary with the RP but it certainly didn't hurt. Except for the stink. I used a $10 gear oil pump from AutoZone and just poured the FM into one of the RP containers when it was half-empty.

      Another quality part

Great stuff , quieted my rear end significantly. Had to do my axle bearings so I decided to go with the Ford friction modifier instead of some cheap Auto parts stuff. was not disappointed.

      Stuff stinks but necessary

After much research it looks like you use the Ford Racing Friction modifier with synthetic gear oil. Use the Motorcraft Friction modifier with dino based gear oil. I used this as my 2012 needed the Ford TSB Article # 12-8-15. Dealer wanted $400. It took 30 minutes and $50 worth of parts from American Muscle. No performance gain, just a necessary part.

I've used this modifier in all of my mustangs that I've done gear swaps in. Never had any issues with this product, my mechanic recommended it and has used it for 15 plus years with zero complaints and or issues.

      Ford Racing Friction Modifier

Had the shop tackle the install using this, can't speak to the actual performance of it, but the gear and pinion do not whine in the slightest. FYI this stuff smells to high h### and will stink up your car in minutes even with the container sealed, plastic wrapping it and the shipping box it comes in. No it wasn't cracked or leaking (bought 2 ) it just that strong of a smell. The shop doing the install was 40 mins away. The fix to this is to put it in a ammo can and lock it up. Saved my car from further stinking worse than what it did. The smell goes away but your stuck with it for a bit ( day or 2) transporting this in your car, put it in a ammo can with a good gasket. Install time took a full day at the shop. Can't go wrong with Ford Racing modifier and gears

      Ford racing friction modifier

I had Ford racing 4:10's installed recently and used this modifier along with Royal purple gear oil and there is no noticeable noise difference from my stock 3:55 gears! Definitely recommend using modifier with any gear oil change.

      Must have for your posi

It wasn't required for my application, because i used Royal Purple but for the price i added it anyway. A fair warning though, if your married do not leave or bring this bottle in the house as the odor is extreme and overbearing.
