Stephanie with americanmuscle.com here with my breakdown of the Motive rear end installation and bearing kit for all Mustangs with 8.8 rears, or in other words, all '86 to '14 V8s and '11 to '14 V6s. Ford's 8.8 rears are as stout as can be, almost the 9 inch of our generation. But, any time you're pulling the rear apart, whether you're just changing your rear gears or doing some maintenance on a higher mileage vehicle, it makes sense to install new seals and bearings while the housing is apart. It's never a good idea to redo a rear end using original bearings and bolts.Before I get too far into laying this kit out for you guys, I want to take a closer look at the brand, Motive. Motive Gear has been offering some of the highest quality drivetrain components on the market today for quite some time. You can find their logo on many drag cars including a large handful of Mustangs that participate in any major racing series, including the NMRA, NMCA, and NHRA.This Motive rear end install and bearing kit includes all of your bearings, seals, shims, and bolts, even down to the gear marking compound and Loctite. If you didn't know already, starting in 2010 Ford changed the inner rear gear pinion bearing in the 8.8 rear. This means that all of you 2010 and up owners will need a new 8.8 pinion bearing for proper installation which can be selected from the drop down menu on the product page at americanmuscle.com. If you're not familiar with setting backlash and pinion depth then I would recommend having a professional install this kit. In fact, a lot of our customers are letting us know that they did just that. They purchased the kit and had a professional install it to make sure that the proper gear mesh pattern was established. If you are tackling this job yourself, you're probably looking at about four hours of install time which can be made easier with the use of a lift and all of the proper tools necessary. But, it can still be done with the use of a jack and some stands. Perfect bang for your buck
Only wanted 4.10s to test on street and my god let me tell you this will wake up your 3v like no tomorrow. Kiss bogging on the line goodbye. If it’s your daily these are still perfect. I cruise around 75mph at around 3k rpms. Not a noticeable drop. Literally perfect bang for your buck. I had a shop do it and only took them an two hours.Helpful (1)

Everything is great so far. The install went smoothly with the shims provided. The only thing I wish had been in the kit would have been an extra oil slinger, so try not to destroy the old one when removing the old pinion seal. Also, put penetrating fluid on your panhard rod bolts like every day for a week before you start this project if you've never had it out before. I had to cut mine out and you don't have a lot of room in there to work a grinder.Helpful (1)

I have read the contents of this kit, I have watched the video, but I STILL DON'T KNOW if this kit includes the rear gear pinion bearing kit necessary for 2010 Mustang gear swaps? And this is from a person who reads, writes and interprets complex written language for a living... Also, can not find this "drop-down" menu you are talking about in the video. You warn about it being necessary all the time, yet do not state clearly if this bearing kit contains it or not. Please indicate this CLEARLY for everyone to see, it is really confusing. Apart from that (assuming the kit DOES NOT include the rear, which I seem to deduct from one of the answers for previous questions), why make a bearing kit without the most important and needed bearing? Does ANY kit you sell include this 2010 rear gear pinion bearing (maybe those big kits with bottles for 279$ or any other kits by Ford?) or the only way is to buy the bearing separately?
We do apologize that the listing is not clear enough. The Motive Rear End Installation and Bearing Kit does not include the Rear Gear Pinion Bearing for 2010-2014 Mustangs. The bearing is not included in the kit because the kit is designed for 1986-2014 Mustangs, and it is not necessary for the majority of the years this kit works on. What type of bearing come in this kit? Koyo or Timken?
This Motive Rear End Installation and Bearing Kit - 8.8 in. (86-14 V8; 11-14 V6) kit is going to have Timken pinion bearings and Koyo carriers.
Whats the difference? What is the difference between this kit and the kit for 35 dollars?
This kit comes complete with everything you need for a full rebuild: bearings, shims, crush sleeve, etc... The $35 kit is a basic kit that is the same as the more expensive version, but there are no bearings included. We highly recommend getting the complete kit and replacing all your bearings and shims at the same time to prevent any costly problems down the road. It's better to replace them all at once, rather than having to tear the car apart again just for a bearing gone bad.
I plan on adding the 2012 Boss 302 Torsen differential to my 2011 Mustang GT. Is this the proper kit I will need to freshen up rear end when I have the Torsen installed? The stock rear end has about 41k on it and 3.73 gears. And will the kit's cover plate seal work with the aluminum differential cover plate?
This Motive Rear End Installation and Bearing Kit does indeed come with everything needed to install new gears into a new differential.
Do you know if these kits will fit a 99 f150 4x4 with an 8.8 rear gear?
The Motive Rear End Installation and Bearing Kit will work with pre 2015 8.8 rear axles.
The Motive Rear End Installation and Bearing Kit - 8.8 in. (86-14 V8; 11-14 V6) comes with everything you need to replace your rear end. The only other part you'll need, since you have a 2014 Mustang GT, is going to be a Ford Rear Gear Pinion Bearing - 8.8in (10-14 V8; 11-14 V6), item # 52994, (http://www.americanmuscle.com/88-gear-assembly-2010.html). In 2010, Ford changed the rear inner gear pinion bearing.
This will include both Front and rear pinion bearings, and carrier bearings.
Unfortunately, this kit would not include the rear axle bearings and would need to be purchased separately.
This would be a complete kit for your car yes.
The Motive Rear End Installation and Bearing Kit does not come with all of the required bearings for the Cobras IRS. This kit will not wok.
This rear end install and bearing kit will work on a 2013 GT model Mustang.
