Will this work with the big brake kits, like the Baer Eradispeed big brake kit?

  • The Ford Performance GT500 Brake Cooling Shields do fit the OEM Big Brembo brake kit. However, we have not tested them on the Baer Eradispeed big brake kit.

    Good...but do not expect much

This is an excellent way to reduce un-sprung weight, get good looks, and improve the airflow to the rotors...but it is NOT a cooling kit. I took the car to the track with these and in the fourth lap got the pad to fade. The only difference was that with some adjustments to my line I was recovering from pad fade faster and felt the pedal a little bit better. Although it sounds good, if you do not push your mustangs braking system hard and often, you will never notice the improvement these shields provide. If you do push it, these will help, but are no substitute to a duct directing cool air to the rotors.

    Fits 05-09 GT just fine

The FRPP instructions as well as the customer submitted instructions cover the 4-piston or 6-piston Brembo/fixed caliper brakes. The instructions are similar for the 05-09 GTs with the 2-piston, except you should remove the caliper first followed by the anchor plate. I had to open the bleeder screw on one caliper because the pistons decided to come out a bit more. These 2013 GT500 shields shed 262 grams per wheel, or approximately 0.58 pounds per wheel. They are designed to cover the tie rod boots and ball joint boots from the hot brake dust while allowing maximum cooling for the rotors. I wanted to remove these dust shields back in 2006 after seeing how close the shields were to the rotors. I guess the geniuses at SVT finally figured it out for model year 2013 on the GT500. I also took off the rear dust shields. The Boss 302 supplement even says to remove the rear dust shields when preparing the car for the track. However you don't need to go to the track to overheat the stock brakes. It's easily done.

    They Work

Did this while doing a brake job, added less than a minute to the job. Took it for a 15 mile ride, touched the front rotors. I COULD TOUCH THEM, they were warm. Touched the reach rotors burnt the heck out of my finger.

    Much needed improvedment

After looking at the stock GT dust shields is easy to see that there was potential for improvement. These help shield vital components while helping to maximize air flow.

    Great shields

Shields were easy to install. No extra time at all while installing new pads. Several hard stops to break in new pads, no fade at all. Good product for the price.

Brake cooling shields work very well

After one lap day, stock brakes with dust shield were radiating so much heat, it took 45 minutes after 25 minute sessions to cool down (78 degree track temp). Purchased and installed the shields new rotors and hawk hp pads prior to 2 day high performance class. Cooled unbelievably well. No longer watched heat haze from front brakes. Third mod that should be installed (after short shifter and two piece shift bushing) if using non brembo brake package.

    Quality parts

These Brake Cooling Shields are what you would expect from Ford Racing. The parts a high quality and the kit even includes the New Fasteners. I installed these shields while already completing a brake job (new Rotors/Pads, etc), so the install was a piece of cake. If you are only installing these shields, then it is a pretty involved installed since you have to remove all the brake components in order to get to the Dust Shield bolts.

    Great looking cooling shields!

These shields not only shed weight, but they also protect your tie rod ends too. More air definitely gets to your brakes when using these cooling shields!

    Don't do what I did.

I did my first brake job just shy of 70K miles (I do a fair bit of engine braking) and figured that with likely 70K to go before the next one and track days on the horizon, I'd throw in stainless lines and these brake cooling shields. Reading another review, I also removed the brake shields from the rear wheels. Viola! Cooler brakes around, right? Maybe. I soon discovered that whenever driving in a downpour and going more than half a minute to a minute without using the brakes (in town, usually at 40-55 mph), they'd take almost a full second to shed water and start slowing me down properly upon applying them. Was worried the culprit was my new rotors but I put the stock heat shields back on, front and rear, and the problem is totally gone. Guess I now know what those ugly shields are for. So they look cool, go on perfectly and might improve braking on track but if you're going to be daily driving it, might be able to stick to stock equipment for this part. Now considering a front big brake kit that has factory-like shields because even when I retire the car to weekends early next year, I'll still be calling upon it to do road trips.

    Easy install

Took about 2 hrs to do. Ispent most of the time taking the retainers off the rotors and repainting my calipers while I had everything apart. I don't have to worry about rocks getting stuck in the shields and saved a few ozs. of weight. Look good and seems to keep brake fade down. Nice product.
