Hey, guys. Adam here with americanmuscle.com and today we're taking a closer look at and installing the Tekno 1 Rear Window Louvers in Gloss Black for the '05 to '14 Mustang Coupes. You should be checking this out if you're looking for one of the most unique rear window louver designs in the category. Now, rear window louvers are for the guys out there looking for a more rare retro classic nostalgic muscle car appearance to the exterior of the S197. These take that retro design and give it a more modern spin with a pretty unique layout. Now, typically the louver slats run the entire width of the rear window. This is actually gonna taper down just in the center section, giving you somewhat of that snake styling with the scales with five of those slats and it's gonna leave two open windows on each section of the windshield.The rest of the trim is just completely flat, giving you a gloss black trim all the way around the edges, and then, of course, at the top, you have two of those open nostrils or nostril-like designs that you would see from a snake. This guy here is made from a marine-grade ABS which means it's an impact-resistant and scratch-resistant plastic with a gloss black finish on top of it. The gloss black might not be for everybody but it's for the guys looking for a little bit more of a flashy design. Typically, you see a window louver in a matte black or a textured black design. This one just stands out a little bit more. It's really leaning into the unique design that it has.It's also using an automotive-grade 3M VHB tape, which is specifically designed for the exterior use of vehicles. If applied properly, this guy will be on for the long run. You can take it through car washes, you can wash it yourself by hand and it won't come off, assuming the installation is done properly. And that's really the key. You wanna make sure you're cleaning off all the dirt and dust off of the windshield before applying the 3M in order to make sure it's getting that good bond, but the 3M tape already pre-applied to the louvers are meant to go on in the long run. Now, the only downside to this particular option and is that they aren't removable. So in some cases, you have separate brackets that attach to the louvers and then, of course, to the windshield allowing you to take the louvers off when going through a carwash. Not the case here. This guy sits completely flushed up against the windshield with 3M directly adhering the louver to the glass. Not something necessarily that may be a deterrent for some people, but just something to keep in mind, that there are design differences amongst the options of the category.Now, this one here is gonna come in right around 700 bucks putting it a little bit higher on the premium scale in terms of price tag compared to some of the other options but, of course, it's all personal preference. This one here has that more unique design which does push it to the top end. Some of the more classic louver styles can save you a little bit of money, but, of course, again, it's personal preference. Now, the install, I'm giving out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. It'll take you about 15 minutes from start to finish, making it a super simple install that anybody can do in the driveway at home. The only thing I recommend having on hand that isn't included in the kit would be a soap and water mixture and a squirt bottle and a clean microfiber. If you don't have those, alcohol wipes will do the trick. You just wanna spend a little bit of extra time cleaning off that windshield because, again, it is the most important step. With that said, I'll walk you through the process. Let's get started.Tools used in the install include a soap and water mixture and a squirt bottle and a clean microfiber. The first step here is the most important step of the entire process, cleaning off the back windshield. This is something that you don't wanna skimp on or skip over at all just because removing that dirt and dust from the windshield is going to allow the 3M tape on the back of the louvers to get a good bond with the glass. If you skip over this step, you're running the risk of the louvers coming off, especially at highway speeds. So you wanna take your time with this. I'm gonna recommend a soap and water mixture and a squirt bottle and a clean microfiber. If you don't have soap and water, you want to avoid things like Windex and other harsher chemicals because that can leave a chemical residue behind which can prohibit a good bond with the 3M. Soap and water is your best way to go. Alcohol wipes are a second best. Next, we're gonna grab this and just clean off the windshield, keeping a special eye on the corners where the 3M is gonna adhere.Now, if you want, your next step can be to apply adhesion promoter to the 3M. Because our louvers are gonna be coming right off after the video, we're not gonna be using an agent promoter but if you wanted to pick that up separately, you can do so to give it some more support. At this point, we can apply our louvers. Now, the 3M is already applied to the back end of the louvers but what I like to do is just peel off a couple of inches on each strip, that way we can easily access the 3M strip backing from the outside of the louver. Keeping a lot of that backing on without pulling it all off at once is gonna help allow you to get some trial and error with lining everything up so it just doesn't immediately stick on. So I've got a couple of inches peeled off. You wanna use the bottom and top corners of the windshield as a guidance to help line things up here. All right. I like the way that this is lined up, so I'm just gonna put a little bit of pressure on the exposed 3M. Head over to the other side and check that fitment. Once you like the position of the louvers, put pressure on the 3M that's exposed and peel back the rest of the backing. All right. At this point, put firm and even pressure all along the 3M on each one of the edges and you're good to go.That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the Tekno 1 Rear Window Louvers in Gloss Black for the '05 to '14 Mustang Coupes.
