I’m Justin with, and today I have with me 3 different brake pad options, all from Hawk Performance. We’re looking at the ceramic, the HPS, and the HP+, for both front and rear that will offer a broad range of performance that will suit everything from a bone stock daily driver, to an all out race course monster. Any one of these pads will far outperform your stock pads in just about every way, more braking performance, less fade and dust. However it’s very important you select the right pad for your application, so with that in mind, let’s break these 3 options down a little further. First up is the ceramic option from Hawk. These are going to be an ideal OE replacement and be perfectly suited for any daily driver, they’re going to bite strong without needing to be hot, be very quiet, and offer very minimal dust. This is all thanks to that ceramic compounds, which offers a nice balance between performance and everyday streetability. The next pad, the Hawk HPS will be right in the middle between the ceramics and the HP+ and will be for a daily driver or a weekend warrior, whose car does see a little track time and are just looking for a little bit more bite, and less fade. These pads utilize a therocarbon compound which does benefit from a little heat in order to perform their best but still offer great performance when cold. It is worth pointing out that these pads can be a little noisy when cold, and will definitely put off a little bit more dust than the ceramics, but all around, the HPS are a solid performer. Finally, we have the HP+. These are going to be for someone who subjects their Mustang to road courses and auto crossing where repetitive fade and high heat can kill lesser pads. Can you use these pads on the street? Yes, however, these pads feature a high temperature specific compound with a very high friction coefficient, which means these pads need to be hot and stay hot in order to perform at their best, like on a road course or an auto cross track. Once hot, these HP+ pads will bite hard, and offer great performance with very little fade, these pads tend to be very noisy and put off a good amount of dust, however since they’re geared more towards a race car versus a show car, most folks should be fine with that. Installing these pads from Hawk or any brake pads at that matter is a pretty simple task if you’ve never tackled brakes before. Due to the aggressive compounds of these pads, Hawk included a grease, to be used in conjunction with the included shim located on the back of the pad just to keep the noise level down. It’s very important that you use the grease on the back of the pad and not on the front of the pad, just so you don’t mess up your new brakes. Overall, getting the fronts and rears installed should only take you about 2 hours from start to finish. When it comes down to it, brake pads and tires are 2 of the biggest factors when it comes to helping your car stop faster. So try upgrading your Mustang to a quality pad like one of these Hawk options, and discover the difference in your braking performance.

Superior Stopping Power. Whether you're replacing worn-out stock pads or looking for an inexpensive way to improve your high performance Pony's stopping power, Hawk HPS pads are an affordable alternative to a complete brake upgrade. The Hawk HPS pads have a 20-40% better braking and higher resistance to fade than other replacement pads on the market for the stopping power you need, when you need it.

Street/Strip Use. Hawk HPS pads are a great balance of streetability and track performance. They're at their best once they're a little warm, but provide good stopping power even cold so you can drive them on your dual use street and strip 'Stang and still enjoy their performance advantages.

Reduced Brake Fade. If you like to take your Pony to the track or strip, you know that brake fade is your enemy. Hawk HPS pads are designed to resist fade more than other pads, ensuring consistent braking even when things get hot.

Less Noise & Dust. Hawk uses a unique Ferro-Carbon formula for increased stopping power, low brake dust, and less noise than dedicated race pads.

Application. This set of Hawk HPS pads is sold as pair for the front only. They are designed to fit 1994 to 2004 Cobra, Bullitt, & Mach 1 Mustangs only. Set includes driver-side and passenger-side brake pads.

i have an 04 mach 1 and i was wondering if they were gonna fit my stock brake calipers

  • Yes they will. These are for your factory stock calipers.

On my 97 v6 I have the cobra conversion brakes on. I need new pads do I need pads for a cobra or for a v6 Hi I own a 1997 v6 mustang but I have cobra brake calipers a 13 inch rotor and 18 inch wheels. I a, wondering what type of pad I need to replace the old ones in the cobra calipers. Do I buy calipers for a cobra or do I buy pads for a v6.

  • You will need the cobra pads to fit the cobra calipers. These are quite nice pads also.

    Work good and quiet!

    Previous pads where starting to squeal. Went with these hawk pads to upgrade. Note that the pads don't work very good the first few stops until you do the break in procedure. Then wow....! They bite hard under hard braking yet are street friendly with daily driving. Expensive pads but ive had them on a previous car and they lasted a very long time. Nice and quiet pad with low brake dust this far.

    Much better than stock

    I have been running these on my car for a while. They provide good stopping power with no fade. I have not taken them around a road course but have auto crossed with them and they have not let me down or faded. The feel is more consistent and better than the stock pads or other kinds that are stock replacements

    they do the job

    I paired these with dbs drilled and slotted rotors which work together great. I read that theres a lot of brake dust but I drive 130 miles round trip to work everyday highway and town and its not that bad, not like everyone says anyways. They are quiet and have a good bite.

    Seat them and you will be happy

    I threw these pads on the front of my Mach and went out and seated them. After a couple 80-0's and a couple 30-0's these things will stop that car like you wouldn't believe. You'd think the car weighs 1000 lbs it stops so fast. Very happy and easy install.

    Very nice pads

    Replaced all my pads with the Hawk HPS's and found them to have really good grip from the get go. They took well to a set of slotted and dimpled rotors take an amazing amount of beating on a track before they think of fading so I'm really impressed by them. A bit more dust is produced by these but overall they are a great product; I will probably go for the HP's with my next round of brakes but for anyone not going to tracks a couple times a month I highly recommend these.

    I ordered these pads for both my Mustangs. I have always used the HPS pads. I like their grip and I like their longevity.

    Decent bite and quiet stopping

    I got these pads to replace my worn out stock Cobra ones. They are holding up well to the abuse I give them at autocross and the dragstrip. The only downside, which is to be expected of a more aggressive pad, is the dust production. Other than that the price is just right for all around good performance. They are also amazingly quiet. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good street pad with weekend warrior intentions.

    Hawk HPS for cobra/mach1

    I have to say thus far I am impressed, but i've only had the brake pads on for 2 weeks. I use stock brembo rotors which I had turned just prior to installing and the grip is definitely an improvement over what I was using (slotted/dimpled rotors from EBC w/ red stuf pads = don't buy those as they make a ton of noise and warp quickly). I'm hoping in 1 year from now I will not have to change these pads out like I did with the EBC (actually it was 8 months). So far so good. Stick with a nice regular vented rotor like the brembo's and these pads and you will enjoy the ride.

    Hawk HPS Pads

    Install was easy, same way you would with any brake pads. Instant difference in braking over OEM pads. No sqeaks, squeals, or anything coming from my brakes anymore! I will be buying the matching rear pads in the near future
