Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour
February 16, 2012
Less than an hour with some common sense.
Ok after seeing the reviews on here, I figured that I'd add my 2 cents.
Lets start with the bad. It's a tad pricey for a splice in sequential. Yes it's LED, but when you can get the regular kit for considerably less it's hard to choose these. The only other complaint is that they sequence pretty fast, a little too fast for my taste, but hey that's it. Those are my only complaints.
I chose these tail lights because I wanted the sequential lights and I wanted tint on them which I also got from AM. If I didn't get tint, I suggest the non-LED kit just based on price point.
Install is really easy, the kit comes with instructions that make the wiring simple. The longest part of install was pulling back the old electrical tape (the factory installer got happy with the tape).
The instructions note a trial and error method of determining what wire plug goes in which order after the sequence box is installed. I found on the specific kit that I had, that the correct order followed the order coming out of the box.
What I mean by that is that the small black box that is added into the wiring in order to sequence the lights, has 2 sets of wires coming out from it. From one side there are 3 wires, a red, and 2 whites. The red plugs into a designated connection as noted in the instructions but the next two wires have no given order.
What I found out is that they are in order of the sequence, the middle white wire goes to the middle lamp on each side. If you get them out of order, its just a matter of swapping the wires, but its nice to do it right the first time.
As for the review about the wire splices not working right, I had no problem with them. The splices are small plastic pieces so it could have been a bad batch with that guy, but then again he could have clamped them too hard. The splices make a very quiet click when they are clamped together and they stay clamped without cutting any wires in half. The connections are very tight and if they don't fit one way, then flip it over. All you need for install is a pair of pliers, a 11mm wrench and some patience to make sure you do it right.
I highly suggest this kit. It's made with quality and it all fits properly and works really well. It also just looks dang cool too.
