- How to Install a Door Pannel Insert in your 1999-2004 Mustang
$39.99FREE Shipping on orders over $49
Hey, guys. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and installing the OPR charcoal door panel insert for 1999-2004 coupe Mustangs. You're gonna wanna be checking this out if you're looking for a replacement door panel insert that looks like factory but that doesn't come with a factory price tag. This is currently one of the least expensive options on the website. It costs just over $40. It's a direct replacement for your factory door panel insert. It's made of plastic and has a grainy texture. This one is charcoal, but they're also sold in tan and they are sold separately. Of course, this is gonna be the left side. This fits all 1999-2004 coupe Mustangs that have power windows and power door locks. It's very easy to get installed, I'll call it a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter and we'll show you how to get it on your car now. All right, guys. To get your door panel insert out, it's really not complicated. It's held in by two clips. There's one clip up here. So, we're just gonna go ahead and pull on our door panel insert, the clip will release, and there's another clip down here. Of course, we do have our controls on the backside as well. We will disconnect that electrical connection right here. So, we'll use a flathead screwdriver to disconnect our electrical connection here and then we'll need a Phillips head to remove our control panel for the windows. Then we'll be able to remove our controls from our insert. So here we have our new replacement insert. And what we have to do now is transfer over our mirror controls. It's actually just held in by a clip. So, we're going to press this clip, there are two clips that you have to press, one here and one on the top side. So, we're gonna push the two clips in and press down on this at the same time. And then we'll take our new insert and we'll just press our mirror control back into place. Now, we're gonna get the window controls back into place. So, we'll just slide them in to their little housing. Then we'll use our stock hardware to hold them in place. So, one last thing we have to do is grab the metal clip off of our stock insert. I'm just gonna use a flathead screwdriver to help me pry this off. Now, we'll put this on our new door panel insert and we are ready to clip it into place. All right, guys. So at this point, we're ready to clip our new door panel insert in place. And I will say that we are installing a charcoal one, it does match the two tone of the dash. But if you guys didn't wanna have a charcoal door panel insert, this is also sold in tan as well. There's a little trick to get this installed in the correct way and have it look good. You guys need to tilt your insert forward, line up the clip on the back side here, and make sure all of your harnesses are actually tucked down inside the door panel or else this won't seat correctly. Your clip up top is gonna be the last thing that you push into place. All right now we're gonna push this back clip into place, followed by the top clip up here. All right, guys. That's gonna wrap up this review and install. Keep in mind that you can always check this out more online right here at americanmuscle.com.

Close but not quite
Part fitment on door was excellent however power controls mount off center from holes causing buttons to stick had to use small file on each hole to to eliminate buttons rubbing. The mounting piece is not centered with the holes don’t understand why the manufacturing doesn’t see and correct this.Helpful (0)

Is going to need a little tweeking
Was pretty stoked when the insert arrived in the mail . My old one , the clip was broken and whenever I went to grip it to close the door it was loose . The new insert fits nice and tight but I noticed the upper bottom edge is not.sitting flush with the door panel . I just haven't made the time yet to give it a closer look . Hopefully I will be able get it so it seats better into place .Helpful (0)

Well made item and everything went well. The original panel never did fit right and upon removing it found two of the plastic screw studs had cracked. Now the new panel fits better than the original and finish looks better too.Helpful (0)

Can you get the gray one to match my interior?
Hello! Unfortunately the OPR Door Panel Insert only comes in Charcoal or Tan.
do you have any for convertible (door panels)
We currently do not offer the OPR Charcoal Door Panel Insert or any insert for the convertible models at this time, we apologize.
Why the different price? Why is this one cheaper than the other one you carry? I know this one is from 94-04 and the other one 99-04, but the only difference i see is the price...
I just got one of these in the mail today for my 02 GT. Looks like this one is not a genuine Ford part, which is usually fine, but this one broke immediately upon installation for me. I'm a mechanic too so its not like I don't know what I'm doing. The other one is more expensive because its actually a genuine Ford part. Some others seem to have had luck with this one but not me. Get what you pay for I guess.
Does it come with clips or do you have to buy them separately?
This does not come with the door panel insert clips, you will have to reuse yours from factory or purchase new.
Can I get the door pulls for manual locks and Windows non power
We only happen to carry door panel inserts that support the power windows.
They are the same material however the convertible panel insert will come with the cutouts for the mechanics that are found on the door panel which is very different from those on the coupe panels.
