Hey guys. Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here with a Mishimoto Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank for 2015 and up Mustangs. The Mishimoto Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank is perfect for those S550 owners out there that are looking for some underhood improvements. The factory coolant expansion tank is plastic, and it looks like a bubble which can leave a lot to be desired in the looks department, especially over time. The Mishimoto tank is not only more attractive, making for a better appearance, but it's also more durable and stronger than the factory plastic tank as well. Just looking at the Mishimoto tank here you can see that it's an obvious appearance upgrade right away. It has an attractive one-piece design instead of the stock two-piece design, and it's made from aluminum, and it has lovely welds on it. Even though this tank is powder coated black, the welds are obvious, and Mishimoto doesn't look like they were rushing when they were building this tank. If you weren't that into the black, Mishimoto does offer the same tank with a polished aluminum finish if you prefer that instead, or you always have the option of powder coating it your own color. These tanks are TIG welded which will give strength and durability, and the aluminum will be stronger than the factory plastic tank. So not only will this tank offer an appearance upgrade but it will also be more durable and hold up better than a plastic tank, especially in high performance applications. Like the factory tank, this tank also has internal baffles. The internal baffles will keep the coolant from sloshing around, so this means during braking or high speed cornering, and since the coolant won't be sloshing around it will stay close to the overflow cord therefore helping to prevent coolant starvation and air from entering the system. Another cool thing this tank has is a sight tube. The sight tube allows you to keep an eye on your coolant level at a glance, which is important since this tank is a solid blacked-out tank. This thing will be your new best friend. The tank will come complete with an overflow nipple on the fill neck so you can attach more reservoirs if necessary. It's also a direct fit replacement that's going to work on an S550 V6, Ecoboost and GT so you won't have to worry about making room for this tank, and it reuses a stock overflow cap as well. As far as price, you're looking at spending just over $175 for this tank. The polished aluminum version is the same price so you'll have a choice of which you like better. The tank is nicely made and has some nice features like the hot and cold fill lines, and at the end of the day you're investing in an item that will improve both looks and it will last longer than the factory plastic tank. The install for this overflow tank is very easy. I mentioned that it's a direct bolt-on replacement, which means that it will just take the place of the factory overflow tank, and it does reuse the factory cap. You won't need any special tools to complete the install, just a few sockets, a flat head and hose clamp removers, and it will take less than an hour to complete, and I'm going to call it a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You will want to drain some of the coolant so you can pull up your stock expansion tank, so having some extra coolant to fill up with is a good idea. The factory tank uninstalls by removing 3 hoses and 2 10 millimeter bolts. It doesn't get much easier than this here. You can clamp your hose down if you want to make sure you don't leak any coolant, and the new tank installs the same way the factory one came out. One hose on the bottom, two bolts on the fan shroud and two hoses on the top of the tank. The stock cap can then be installed, and the install can be finished by topping off and bleeding the coolant system. Wrapping things up here, the Mishimoto Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank will help you add some additional reliability by upgrading the materials of the expansion tank. It will also add some styling to the engine bay in either black or polished aluminum. It will eliminate the unattractive factory two-piece plastic tank and replace it with a single-piece design that utilizes a sight tube, and you can check it out more online right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

High Performance. Add additional strength and reliability to your S550 with this black powdercoat Mishimoto Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank. Replace that weak plastic eye sore that came on your 2015-2017 Mustang, which is known to fail in high temperature situations, with this TIG-welded aluminum beauty. Improve both your underhood styling and coolant tank longevity with this Coolant Expansion Tank by Mishimoto.

Durable Construction. Fully TIG-welded for durability and crafted from high strength 100% aluminum, this black powdercoated Mishimoto Coolant Expansion Tank will be much stronger, not to mention better looking, than the stock two-piece plastic tank. Featuring internal baffles to keep coolant from sloshing during high speed cornering, braking or acceleration, the baffles also help to prevent coolant starvation from the overflow ports on your S550 engine.

Easy Installation. This Coolant Tank by Mishimoto has been designed as a direct fit replacement and comes complete with a sight tube to help keep an eye on your coolant levels at a glance. Complete with an overflow nipple on the fill neck to attach additional NHRA reservoirs if necessary, this tank comes with the necessary installation hardware for a simple install, taking just under an hour.

Application. This black Mishimoto Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank is designed to fit on 2015-2017 V6, GT and EcoBoost Mustangs and reuses the stock overflow tank cap.

Will this work with an Airaid CAI?

RioS550

  • The Mishimoto Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank will fit with an Airaid Cold Air Intake. The vacuum nipple of the side of the expansion tank will cause a tight fit, however, it will certainly fit without flaw.

  • Unfortunately, this coolant tank is only designed for the 15-17 GT, Ecoboost, and V6. It will not fit properly with your GT350.

Has anyone ever installed this with a PMAS CAI?

  • Unfortunately the expansion tank will not work with the PMAS cold air intake as there will not be enough room for them to fit next to each other.

Review from Mishimoto Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank (15-17 GT, EcoBoost, V6)

This finished the engine bay off nicely!

I originally bought a $100 ebay no name unit like this. I thought, how much different can it be. The no namer's fit tang was machined in such a way as it didn't fit, radiator cap wouldn't screw down correctly, it wasn't baffled like the OEM unit... Tossed that unit and ordered the Mishi tank and could not be happier! Perfect in every way. This finished off my engine bay nicely!

    No more plastic football

This thing is great! It's well built, came well packaged, and looks great! The only "problem" is that it doesn't come with instructions, while it doesn't take a rocket scientist to install, there are some tips you can find on youtube that make it easier plus it would be helpful to know what to do with the overflow tube since factory doesn't have one. Overall though, this is a great and easy mod to do!

    Great look

That plastic stock one really looks bad. Switching to the expansion tank was a great view and really changed up the whole view under the hood. Do highly recommend.

Nice looking tank, a little disappointing

I installed the new Mishimoto coolant expansion tank in my 2015 Mustang GT in under an hour. Lots of helpful videos on YouTube. Unfortunately my factory stock radiator cap would not fit the threading on the mouth of the tank. The good folks at American Muscle offered to take it back on return and referred me to Mishimoto customer service. Mishimoto said that sometimes the threading get slightly rounded in tooling. I went to my local Ford dealer and bought a new radiator cap that actually threaded to the new tank, though not easily. Within a few days I also noticed the sight glass on the side of the tank leaking. I was able to stop the leak through adjustment of the sight glass and threaded connections and everything seems to be okay. I like the tank and the way it looks, just expected a better experience with the Mishimoto name.

    should do

Install was very easy, I did need more antifreeze to bring to level. Billet on cap made it a little difficult to get cap on, but with a little adjustment, went will. For looks alone, it's well worth the investment.

    The finishing touch

Top of the line product and a easy install. The stock cap needs a strong hand to tighten all the way but will get easier when remover and installed a few times. The baffles in the stock tank stop the fluid from coming out and will fool you that the tank in empty so watch for that.

    Perfect!

Took about 1/2 hour to install, took my time because I wanted it to be perfect. Looks great on my track pack mustang. This is what Ford should have included instead of the ugly "bubble" tank.

    Excellent product

Looks really good under the hood replacing that ugly plastic tank. Easy install, but I had a hard time getting old cap to lock on new tank but after a few tries it went on. Make sure you plug the lines too or else you're gonna make a mess!

    Easy Install and Great Product

Extremely easy install. Looks fantastic under the hood with the Billet Chrome Radiator Cap Cover. I thought it might sit too high but it's the same height as Steeda CAI so hood clearance isn't an issue. I clamped each hose off with a bolt to prevent leakage then easily swapped the ugly OEM plastic bubble for new Coolant Tank. Overall install time was 35-45 minutes with basic tools. Very pleased with this product.
