    Review & Install Video

This is a Moroso Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank, and it fits a '96 to '04 4.6-liter Mustang. This is gonna be something that you're gonna wanna check out for a few different reasons. First of all, it's a solid one-piece design that's made from aluminum. That means that it isn't gonna have the structural weaknesses that the factory tank has, since the factory tank is a two-piece plastic tank. So this is gonna be a good option if you're looking to upgrade to a stronger tank. This is also a good option if you're looking to clean up the engine bay some and want a nicer-looking tank. The solid aluminum tank is gonna look better under the hood than the plastic tank will, especially if your car has some hard miles on it and the stock plastic tank is looking old. In some cases, the stock tank can leave a lot to be desired in the looks department. The install for this tank is easy. It's a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You can plan on it taking about two hours. One of the nicer things about this tank is that it's a direct fit replacement. So, even though this is a one-piece instead of a two-piece like the stock tank is, this is still gonna bolt right in and directly replace the stock tank. You won't need to modify anything to get this installed, and it's gonna sit right in the stock location. It is going to reuse the stock factory vented cap, so when you take out your stock tank, either keep the cap or have a new stock cap ready to go. This has a 1-gallon capacity, and it's made from solid aluminum. Since this is a one-piece solid aluminum tank, it's gonna be stronger than the factory tank is, and it isn't going to have the same weaknesses that the factory tank could have, being that it's plastic and that it's two-piece. A lot of customers like this because of that. You don't have to worry about the tank failing on you like the stock tank might. And most people really like the solid aluminum for looks reasons, especially if you have some other modifications under the hood. This pairs nicely, looks wise with other upgrades, whether they be performance modifications or appearance mods. One thing I will say is that, since this is full aluminum, you're not gonna be able to check the coolant level as easily since you can't see through this like you can on the stock tank. This also doesn't have a location for the OEM low coolant sensor. Now, for you '03 to '04 Cobras, that isn't anything new, but, you GT guys out there, just keep that in mind, that you won't have that low coolant sensor anymore, and you'll need to manually check your levels. When it comes to price, you can expect to spend just over the $150 mark for this tank. This is currently the only aftermarket expansion tank that's available, and it's solid aluminum and very well-built. The install for this overflow tank is very easy. It'll take about an hour or two to complete. I'm gonna call it a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. I mentioned that it's a direct bolt-on replacement, which means that it'll just take the place of the factory overflow tank. And it does reuse the factory cap. You won't need any special tools to complete this install, just a few sockets, a flathead, and a hose clamp remover. You'll wanna drain some of the coolant so you can cool off your stock expansion tank. So having some extra coolant to fill up with is a good idea. The factory tank uninstalls by removing the hoses and the few bolts that hold it into place. It doesn't get much easier. You can clamp your hose down if you wanna make sure that you don't leak any coolant. And the new tank installs the same way that the factory one came out. You're gonna wanna connect your hoses after you bolt the new tank into place and make sure everything is still sitting properly. The stock cap can then be installed, and the install can be finished by topping off and bleeding the coolant system. That's gonna wrap things up for the Moroso Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank for the '96 to '04 4.6-liter. Check it out more online right here at

I just changed out T stat, how much coolant should I put in this tank before I start burping process at the crossover? (2003 Mach 1)...thanks.

    • When refilling the cooling system manually, you should keep the system between the min/max markings to ensure an overflow does not occur, and a low coolant situation does not occur. Make sure to observe and maintain this coolant level. If available, a vacuum coolant fill will eliminate the need for burping the cooling system, allowing the fill to be a one step process, and ensuring no air remains in the system.

I know you take the fluid out of the old tank prior to removing it. Once you install the new tank and it is refilled, do you need to burp the coolant system now since you broke lines?

    • When installing the Moroso Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank you should burp or bleed the cooling system, unless the system was vacuum filled. This will prevent air pockets in the system which can cause issues.

Could you some how make this work on a 3.8 v6? If so how?

    • This Moroso Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank is designed for use on the 1996 to 2004 V8 Mustangs including the GT, Bullitt, Mach 1 and SVT Cobra models.

Does this have a high polish finish to it or just a brushed one?

    • The Moroso Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank comes in a brushed finished, however, it can be polished if desired.

how do you know where to stop filling is it at the top of the cap just wondering because there isn't one already on my car and I don't know where to start filling it

    • Hello! For this, yes you will start filling it through the cap on the expansion tank. I would fill it about halfway up the tank. This expansion tank is for when the coolant expands it can overflow into this tank instead of on the ground, so leave so room for excess coolant in the tank.

Very nice engine bay eye candy, also much stronger than the stock tank, fit was almost perfect on the front screws, just a hair off. The only issue is not have a way to see the level in the tank without looking through the fill cap. Would buy again.

      Overflow tank

Great product, I needed a replacement coolant overflow from melting my stock plastic one at the track. Install was supper easy and looked nice once completed. I'd recommend a higher psi radiator cap to compliment the tank. An oem jaguar f-pace radiator cap is rated at 29 psi and threads right on. Stock psi cap is 16psi

This coolant tank gave my engine bay a cleaner look, and has a great quality. I replaced my old coolant tank cause it had a hole due to the old 2 piece design.

      Good looking tank!

This by far the best looking tank. The plastic factory tank made the engine compartment look bland. The aluminum tank really cleans up under the hood so you are proud to show off your ride!
