      Review & Installation Video

Man: If you're a big fan of the retro style quarter window louvers but prefer they be pre-painted to match your ride, then the extremely popular options from MMD here might just be the ticket. Now these louvers will fit all 2005 to 2014 coupes and will be painted right here at AM using our state-of-the-art paint facilities before shipping out to you guys for right around 180 bucks for the pair. Now because there is no drilling or permanent modification needed, expect a relatively soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter here, maybe 30 minutes of your time to complete from start to finish but if you hang with me for a little bit, we'll walk you through the job later in the video. So quarter window louvers I would say are going to be one of those love it or hate it modifications that most owners end up tackling because of the retro vibes or styling they tend to bring to the table, especially on the S197. Now you can find them here on the site in a few different flavors such as the Eleanor variety and things like that. But as far as I would say, I believe these are gonna adhere to that more classic or old school vibe more than maybe some of your other options that you'll discover here on the site. But what do you say we talk about that pre-painted finish here, guys, because that's certainly going to be one of the big draws with these particular options? Now the paint team here at AM does spray the same base in clear-coat urethane that Ford uses on their Mustangs, which in turn just leads to a very consistent color match to your S197 right out of the box as you can see with our red fire options here. Now not only is the color match on point but it's also gonna take all of the hassle or guesswork outta finding a local paint shop near you and getting these sprayed on your own, and at the end of the day, hoping they did a good job in matching your ride. Now that paint is sprayed onto the louvers themselves which do feature a ABS plastic build here, going to be equal parts lightweight and of course very durable. Now the louvers do include all of the necessary prep pads, adhesion promoter which is very important here along with your 3M automotive tape needed to get everything in place as we'll demonstrate in a little bit. But first, I do want to point out one big thing here about these options from a design standpoint and that is the fact that they are gonna completely cover the quarter window area on the C pillar of your S197. Some people may prefer this look as it's certainly a bit more dramatic per se but prefer a slightly more toned-down version a company called SpeedForm is gonna make something that's going to deliver a very similar appearance overall but will fit perfectly in the quarter window cutout of your ride. Feel free to check those out as well to kind of weigh both options before pulling the trigger. But now let's segue into that installation as promised, and again, expect a very simple peel-and-stick job here guys. You do want to take your time lining everything up but most if not all of the supplies needed for the job are included in the box. But here's Joe with that detailed walkthrough and a list of what's needed.Joe: The tools used for this install were Quik Detail spray, microfiber cloth, and a razor knife. So the first step you're gonna want to take when installing your window louvers is to make sure that the surface is clean and clear of debris. So I'm gonna use a microfiber towel and a little bit of Quik Detailer and clean the area. The next step we're gonna take is to use the provided alcohol pads and the adhesion promoter pads to clean up the back of the louvers to be installed and install the 3M tape that's provided with the kit. Now that the adhesion promoter has been applied, you can peel off your 3M and apply it to the back of the louver. Once again, using the provided alcohol pads and adhesion promoter, we're gonna prep the surface to take the louver. Next thing I'm gonna do is peel back a small section of the 3M tape so that I can get it started and get everything lined up before I pull it all the way off. Finally, I'm gonna install my louver and I'm gonna make sure that my body line underneath the louver is parallel. All right, and now once you have everything lined up, you can peel away your tape strips and apply pressure to install your louver. Be sure to pull slowly so you don't tear the backing. Once you've applied pressure to push down all the double-sided tape surfaces, you can take a rag and wipe down all the fingerprints and repeat this process on the other side to finish this up. And that's gonna wrap up this review and install. Thanks for watching. And for all things Mustang, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.

        Horrible paint. Full of dirt

Be prepared to paint them yourself. Twice I’ve got their prepainted products and twice I’ve had to repaint it myself.

        5 2013 GT - Murderedout2244 Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Looks amazing, very aggressive look

Install was easy and instructions were clear, I'd warn anyone who is buying this however to be careful when installing to not install the lower portion too far down, I made that mistake on my right side. It still fits fine and holds true, but I'll probably need to replace it at a later time as a portion of the lower tape isnt connecting properly.

How does this affect visibility? I was thinking about getting these but how do they affect side visibility and visibility when backing out

      • Well it definitely diminishes the ability to see through those back windows a little bit, but you can still see through the slits in the louvers. Hasn't created a problem for me.

Should i buy these in black or silver? My mustang has nothing on it, yet. But I was wondering if i should just get the louvers painted black, or keep them silver as the car is? any suggestions?

      • It really depends on what look you’re going for. If you're going for a two-tone or highlight look the black ones are the way to go. But if you’re trying to go with the keeping everything the same color it would be silver. Either way I think it would look great. Once you decide your style then roll from there.

After installation, if the louvers were to come off, would it mess up the car paint or clearcoat from which the bonding tape was applied to?

      • No, your paint and clear coat should be perfectly fine. As an additional note to Beviking's response, if you need to remove them, you can use the heat and a fishing line or the like to help separate the louver from the body. This will prevent any paint scratching from another tool during removal. Hope this helps!

Will I be able to see? My biggest reason why I havent bought these is because i dont know if i will be able to see. i know thy look good but if i get in a wreck it wont matter

      • Yes. The are designed in a way that when you look back from the drivers seat you can see through the slots on the louvers. You can check out some of the pictures from other AM customers who have bought this product.

Cleaning the Glass Can you clean the glass behind the louvers ? Dust could be a real problem.

      • You could use a rag or a swiffer to clean the class thru the opening. That would probably be the only way to clean them without complete removing them and reinstalling them.
