Hey, guys. Adam here with americanmuscle.com, and today we're taking a close look at, and of course, installing the Sequential Tail Lights in the smoked finish, available for '05 to '09 Mustangs. You should be checking these out if you're looking to switch out your factory, very traditional style taillights for a similar one that has a stealthier, more aggressive look to the rear-end. Now, these not only have the smoked lens, they also have your black interior housing, more of a black Chrome interior finish and a built-in sequential harness. Now, that's really cool for the guys looking to modernize their rear-end because of the sequentials are something you see on a lot of new vehicles nowadays. The sequentials being built in means it's a plug and play, you don't have to do any splicing and you get that sequential pattern, blinking from the inside-out, with your intern signals, hazard lights. And when you step on the brakes, they'll actually sequence and hold there when you hit the brakes and hold it on.Now, the smoked finish doesn't really impede on the lighting output too much, but of course, it can be a little bit dimmer-looking than something like an LED aftermarket light that's a lot brighter. Now, what I noticed is when you have just your taillights on, no brake lights, the light itself is not only a little bit more diffused, but it's also more concentrated to the bulb itself. With your factory tail lights, you have all of the red Chrome flashy interior, which has it reflecting all around, where I find this to be a bit more concentrated. When you hit the brakes, it is a lot more brighter and more attractive. Now, when it comes to the price, it comes in right around 200 bucks, making it one of the more affordable options in the category. Now, these aren't some wild, crazy, out of left field designs, it's very similar to the factory one, just darker for the stealthy, guys, and modernized with the sequentials. One of the nice things about these particular taillights is it comes with everything pre-installed, including new bulbs and the wiring harness. You don't have to worry about transferring over any of your factory components, including the reverse light, it's all built-in for you. Now, if you're looking for something that's more out of left field or if you're looking for something like the Vector 2s with the S-550 styling, those are out there before a premium price tag. So this is great for the guys looking to keep the budget down. Now, the install gets one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Like I said, plug and play, direct install, really simple hand tools to get the job done in about 30 minutes or so from start to finish, I'll show you every step of the process. Let's get to it.Tools using this install include a ratchet, 11-millimeter deep socket, and a panel removal tool. First step here, pop the trunk, of course. We're gonna start on our driver's side to remove our factory taillight. Top-left here, you'll see a little wing nut clip that's plastic. It's threaded on. So really what you're gonna do is just unthread it by hand and then pull it straight out and then from there you can peel this back. Now, you can remove this entire black trim panel. I don't find it completely necessary simply because you can get to this bolt here and you can get to the wiring harness straight down just by putting your hands here. You just wanna make sure you're not breaking this. Don't put too much pressure on it to flex. All right. So we're gonna grab our 11-millimeter deep socket and get this nut off. Really, once you break it loose, you should be able to get it off by hand. Now, while we have this guy peeled back, I'm gonna reach my hand straight down and just pinch and disconnect the harness. All right. Now straight down here, you'll find this wiring harness that leads to this clip. Basically what you're gonna do is push in on the top and pull straight back. All right. So at this point what we're gonna do is take the carpeting on the side and just peel that guy back to expose the top 11-millimeter bolt or nut, and then the same thing right underneath it. Grab your socket and get those guys off.Next up, we're gonna remove our taillight, so straight from the back, I like to pull right back on this black trim piece. You're just gonna kind of wiggle it back and forth until it dislodges. You can also push from the inside on one of the studs to help you out. And from here, we're not gonna disconnect our harness. We're just gonna pull the whole thing straight out and set it aside because we don't need this anymore. All right. So we got our factory taillight off of our '06 GT behind me, and it's on the table next to our new sequential option. Now, I wanna take you through some similarities and differences between the two.And I got to say, first and foremost, while the color looks different, these are extremely similar in a lot of ways. Fitment, number one, is gonna be completely similar. And as far as quality of housing, it's all OEM. The differences are, obviously, this has a dark black interior housing. Now, it still has reflective Chrome characteristics to it, but they're a lot darker and a lot more smoked. The interior of your factory light here is obviously very red chrome, which means it's reflective, it's very flashy, it's more in your face, and a lot more traditional. This guy also uses a smoked lens as opposed to the red clear lens, and obviously the red clear lens doesn't impede any light output or anything like that. It's not very stealthy. This guy, while it is very stealthy, does impede some light output, but it's still a lot brighter and more attractive than your factory ones. This is not gonna be using an LED technology, but it does use new incandescent bulbs that are wired in to sequence. Now, the sequential is the biggest difference here between this guy and your factory one, aside from the finish of the lens and the color. The sequence here is gonna flash from the inside out with your turn signals and hazards, so it'll blink in sequence one, two, three, one, two, three, and obviously the opposite for the other side, so it's gonna go toward the outside of the vehicle. Now, that's something a lot of guys wanna pick up in the aftermarket world when it comes to a taillight, and the nice thing here is you don't have to do any splicing. There's no additional wiring harnesses to pick up. It's all built-in to the one harness with the bulbs pre-installed into the sockets there. So overall, very reminiscent of the factory one, just with the few modernized upgrades and a stealthier touch. All right. At this point, all we have to do is put this right into the vehicle. It's already got the resistors wired in, so it's really just plug and play. For the install, the first thing you wanna do is feed in the wiring harness so that the grommet lines up with that open hole. Now, you wanna carefully pull on the wiring there and kind of wiggle it around in circles to get the grommet to seat properly around the edge for a leak-free finish so none of the water gets in there. At that point, you wanna line up the studs to the factory holes and push the taillights through. Wanna make sure they're seated all the way in and grab those factory nuts and thread them back on. It's really gonna be as simple as that. I like to put the nuts all the way down by hand and grabbed my ratchet. And only takes a couple of turns to tighten them down. With that tightened down, grab your harness, click it into place on the factory harness, and then repeat on the other side. That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the Sequential Taillights in a smoked finish, available for the '05 to '09 Mustang.
