    Ask a Question

Will these cats pass smog check in California?

    • The Pypes High Flow Metallic Catalytic Converters will past most emissions test however, they are not guaranteed to pass. Since they alter emission outputs, they are very susceptible to fail against California's strict emissions tests.

I have a 03 Cobra with a SLP catted midpipe and catback and keep destroying the cats. Will these fit in my setup? I don't recall where the O2 sensors were positioned in the SLP setup and these cats have bungs, is there a way to cap them or do I need to relocate the 02 sensors to these cats and plug wherever they are in the SLP setup?

    • The Pypes High Flow Metallic Catalytic Converter Kit can be used to replace the cats in the SLP Catted Mid Pipe. These will include bungs to plug the O2 sensor holes if needed.

Do I need o2 sensors with these as well or can I just tune them out

    • you can just tune them out. They are there for the states that look for them to pass their emissions.

If I purchase these, do I need o2 sensors?

    • The Pypes High Flow Metallic Catalytic Converter Kit will utilize the factory o2 sensors, and new sensors will not be required, if they are working properly.

if i install these on a mustang that isnt naturally asperated will it affect the sound I have a 05 GT and planned on installing the exhaust before major upgrades like a supercharger but I plan on installing one. will this affect the sound negatively

    • The Pypes High Flow Metallic Catalytic Converter Kit (86-10 All) will not negatively affect the sound, since this has cats it will not be as free flowing but the sound difference is very miniscule.

Will these run smoothly with a N/A engine? As of right now, my engine is N/A, but pretty soon down the road i plan on supercharging it. and i'd hate to have to buy a new set of cats when i do. Will these run smoothly with a N/A engine?

    • Yes they will be fine

So I kept going through cats because I have nitrous, and then I found these. They are absolutely amazing, sound great, and the insides don't crumble into dust with nitrous use. Highly recommend if you have forced induction, and still wanna pass emissions.

      Beautiful Product

They're appearance is beautiful, and so is the sound and power gain vs. stock! Only thing (because the pair only came with 2 clamps), I had to have a shop install them. Which isn't too big of a deal, the guy does great work!

      Pypes metallic cats

Awesome sound on the insane Cobra thrust side awesome burble on the backing off to normal speed side. Shorter than the aftermarket cats I blew out so had to have a 2.5' piece of pipe welded on. Glad i did it.

      Terrible product

I own a 2009 gt500 with 2.5 pulley and monoblade throttle body. I thought these cats would help my Shelby breathe but instead they are choking it to death. I have less power and less gas mileage than the stock units. I will be getting these removed after only 3 days of use. What a waste. Do yourself a favor and buy another product.

      2006 4.6 supercharged GT

Well made outer layer that is considerably better made than stock catalytic converters. The sound is deeper without being obnoxious. Having the O2 sensor bungs already inplace is nice. So far only about 300 miles on the converters, the O2 sensors are reading out of range.

This was an easy install. You can clamp or weld the but strongly recommend you weld them in. The appearance is sleek and clean. For those who have states that require catalac converters this is a great option. Highflow and don't restrict what you're trying to achieve in horsepower gains. Great bang for your buck. Literally!

      Very Happy

Replaced factory catalytic converters when they started to fall apart within, causing a rattle noise at wide open throttle. Exhaust shop removed resonators (which I didn't ask for) and factory cats when installing these, and I love the exhaust sound of my V6 now. I've had other mechanics (experienced ones at that) say to me "Is this really a V6?". Not only that, fuel economy went from 22.6mpg highway to 27.9mpg. That's significant, very happy with the product. Inspection of the cat install after the fact revealed that the due to the size and shape of the cat, the left converter is slightly too close to the body of the car since the cats do not come with heat shields. No problems there after 6 months of summer driving.

I had bought the pypes O/R x pipe with my SLP LM1's and it was crazy loud. which was fine by me. But the exhaust smell was bad when i was in a drive thru or something like that. So i decided to buy these and it quieted it down a little bit but my check engine light is still on and i have no increase in power.

      Excellent Price/Quality

Great fit/finish. I have the pypes LT's w/off road X, had a great sound except for some trumpeting around 2k-3k rpm when I was accelerating hard. The cats took that away and turned it in to the perfect growl. They also got rid of the exhaust smell, which was just an added bonus. Install was easy as cake, only had to make two cuts to the modular pieces between the long tubes and mid pipe so I can always buy another set of modular pieces from Pypes if I want to go without when I take it to the track.

      awesome sound and flow

When I bought these I got the PYPES catted x pipe. The sound and flow is amazing. Fitment was horrible. I had to rig ratchet straps to pull the pipes together to bolt on. Other than that. Its a great product.

      be cautious

I purchased the Pypes X pipe w/cats (Part#) EX1050 for my 94 GT. They sounded great, but I had to e-test my vehicle shortly after installing the Pypes cats after a few thousand kms on the car. The emissions (Nox) failed e-test miserebly (Ontario Canada). I put my original factory cats back on and the car passed with flying colors.
