    • True Dual Exhaust for a V6
    • Includes Off-Road X-Pipe and Cat-Back
    • Increases of 15 to 25 Horsepower
    • 2.5" 409 Stainless Steel Tubing
    • 2.5" Turn Down Tips

Increase In Performance.   Bolting on a Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Kit to a stock 1998 to 2004 V6 will yield an increase of 15 to 25 more horsepower! This Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Kit includes both the off-road X-Pipe and Cat-Back needed to give your Mustang an impressive throaty V8 sound and increase in rear wheel horsepower.

Turndown Tips. The Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Conversion kit is designed with tips that turn down under the rear bumper, similar to the 1987 to 1993 GT, so no cutting or modifications are required to the stock V6 rear bumper cover.

Track-ready X-Pipe design.   Pypes designed this system with an off road x-pipe to eliminate the power hogging catalytic converter from the horsepower and torque equation. For street use, consider installing the Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Catted Kit.

Quality Materials. Both the off-road X-Pipe and Cat-Back are constructed from mandrel bent 2.5" 409 stainless steel. The X-Pipe features welded reinforcement plates for additional strength and the Dual Cat-Back features Pypes Street-Pro 3-chamber mufflers for an aggressive throaty sound.

Application.   The Pypes V6 True Dual Exhaust Kit is specifically designed to fit on any 1998 to 2004 3.8L or 3.9L V6 Mustang for more power and a more aggressive sound. Intended for off-road use, does not include catalytic converters. Technical Note: May require the use of O2 Sensor Extensions for proper installation. Some cutting to the flow tubes is required.

If I bought this set-up and wanted to change the mufflers, I would be able to as long as the mufflers are the same width and size to match tubing correct? To add to this, does this website not carry long tube headers for a '98 V6? I looked and I didn't see any.

    • If the other mufflers you were looking to purchase to replace the ones in the Pypes True Dual Off-Road Exhaust were the same dimensions and were offset just as the Pype's were, they would install with ease. Unfortunately, we do not currently carry long tube headers that are guaranteed to fit on 1998 V6 Mustangs, we apologize.

    • The mufflers are the Street Pros from Pypes, listed at 14" x 2.5"

will the turn down tips make it louder compared to the straight out ones?

    • The Pypes True Dual Off-Road Exhaust will have virtually indistinguishable exhaust volumes between the turn down tips or straight tips.

Will this pass North Carolina inspection ?

    • Generally, any cat-back system will pass inspections. However, each state will have its own rules and regulations. You will need to touch base with your local inspection center to see if these would pass your state's inspection.

      Perfect to me

Fairly easy to work with. Installed it myself in 8 hours. Will have to extend o2 sensor wires or replace them, also good to get some gasket maker and c-clamps for the joints. Rubber grommets it comes with are a bit sketchy and my need a little modding, mine moved a few times. Excellent sound. Cold starts epic, and all my friends think it's a V8!

      Good Exhaust System but.......

If you own a 98 3.8l v6 mustang like me, please be aware you may have to buy or make some upstream o2 sensor plugs. Ford stock headers for that year, upstream o2 sensors are mounted on the headers. If you can't locate plugs, bolt size is a metric 18mm/1.50. As well as you may have to buy or make exhaust hangers for the x-pipe. and to finish it off, i had to cut 2 1/2 inchs off the driver side pipe to make that side fit properly.

      Bang for your buck

This is a phenomenal sounding exhaust at low rpms, high rpms it sounds a little ricey. My old o2 sensors did not come out so I'm only rocking 2 with a check engine light. Other than that the install was easy. They sit closer to the ground than your stock system so (speed bump warriors and those that are lowered beware). I had no problem with clearance with 285s in the back. Don't put jack stands under the axle as you will have to drop your suspension to get the piping over it.

      2004 40th Anniversary 3.9L (V6) Automatic Mustang

Has a real deep growl when Started all through up until 5000rpms then it almost gets a tuner zing at higher rpms. Looks good The one exhaust tip doesnt hang as low as the other almost hiding it u til ur so far back away kind of keeps it looking as if it’s a single exhaust true to the V-6 form. I had somebody else install it at a garage cost me $80 (2hours) will need extended o2 sensor wires suggest o2 spacers to trick cpu to not throw codes. All in all very pleased with it- I don’t mind the tuner sound at higher rpms. But then again I only take to car shows and don’t really “get on it” I keep it as a show car. So low growls starting up and slowly coming and going to shows it’s sounds is in its sweet spot the whole time.

      It's Okay

I should have read more reviews before purchasing. It doesn't actually fit the car at all so you have to cut out your cats in order to make it fit. It has an incredible rumble but it's a bit embarrassing when i speed up and it makes a high pitched zing. Sounds bad. I love the sound of the idle but if i wanted that i could have just stayed with my broken mufflers and it would have sounded nicer!

5 stars because my mechanic did the install

Would have left a much more informative review if it wasn't for the difficult "Review Criteria". Sorry guys. I enjoy it. Sounds good. Had it professionally installed and I highly recommend doing that. The throttle response and horse power gains make it feel like a new car. The kit was not an exact fit and needed to be cut several times. Does not include 02 sensors and wires for the new pipe. So, your Check engine light will be on.

      Read the Reviews

I was in the market for a new exhaust system and wanted something that was a true dual exhaust. I wanted something not too expensive and not the cheapest, so I settled with this. I'm sure everyone knows not to be happy with just settling with something, the same idea applies here. Installation was not too bad, just use liquid wrench on everything and have a saws all ready for parts that don't want to come off. Work front to back as well and tighten to how you want it to look and fit after it's all lined up. Either way, this is the most ill-fitting exhaust I've ever had the displeasure of replacing. First off all, it sat way too low that I couldn't drive down my street (which is nicely paved with no holed but three speed bumps well placed) without scraping. Second, the hangers they supply you are also too long which exacerbated the issue of the exhaust sitting too low to the point where I had to take it to an exhaust shop in town to ask me numerous times if this was even the right make and model. Once I informed them that it was from American Muscle and that it was in fact for my 2000 V6 3.8L, they were surprised that's where I got it from. Cost me about $195.00 to fix this mess of an exhaust and about an hour for them to tuck it up nicely away from my driveshaft and away from the ground. On a positive note, the exhaust sounds lovely and really opens up around 3000 - 3500 RPM's. Idle is very nice, everything is just that - nice. I can feel the get up and go has improved as well with my BBK Chrome Shorty Headers and it didn't hurt my wallet too much. But yeah, read the reviews and decide for yourself.

Excellent pipes but mufflers are extremely loud

Eliminating cats makes your mustang very loud and throaty I have changed to hush thrush mufflers and plan to add 2 more mufflers where the cats where cause it is still to loud for my wife (I could live with it but hope the turbo glass packs I am adding quiet it down a little more) All that being said about sound control I have to say opening up the exhaust solved my flow backing up problem it does run better much faster does not hold out so long to shift upon releasing the throttle engine is way more responsive

      Amazing product

Cold start and idle sounds great. Nice deep rumble. Only issue (besides three stitches) is from 3800-4800 rpm it has a tuner sound. Expected for the v6, but with the idle sound you wouldn't think it would happen. Took about 3 hours with jack stands and basic hand tools.

      Awesomeness

I bought this not knowing that uninstalling cats was illegal in my state, so I had to do a whole bunch of custom cuts, bends, and welds; and it still only took 5 hours. Had I done it the illegal way it would've taken 1 or 2 max. The first time I turned it on it scared me cause it was so different, and it scares people on the road if I rev it, and that's with the cats on, imagine them off! I can't imagine my car without this. Buy it, stop thinking about it and buy it. You only have to remove 10 bolts, its so easy, DO IT.

      Leave It To The Experts!

took my system to an exhaust shop in town.everything is tucked up nice and neat and away from drive shaft.they did an outstanding job. i have a cammed v6 that makes my Pypes system with Pace Setter headers sound angry. even at higher rpm i think it sounds good.i get accused of having a v8 all the time. (they think the 3.8 high performance badge on the back is bs) i like the turn down tips over the GT look because it is a v6 and i want to stay true to that. its a great system for the money but if you don't install exhaust systems for a living then i wouldn't take on this task.

      Don't waste your money

This has got to be the most ill-fitting, poorly made exhaust system I have ever installed. And I've installed JC Whitney exhaust systems. I don't think these people have ever even looked underneath a Mustang. None of the hangars were properly positioned. I've got more baling wire holding the thing up than anything else. The bolts holding the flow tubes to the X-pipe were way to short, so I had to buy new hardware. The whole right side sits way closer to the driveshaft than I'm comfortable with. The mufflers sound HORRIBLE!!! It's a Mustang, not a souped-up Civic. There's another $100 for some good Cherry Bombs. And the whole thing hangs just a few inches off the ground so it drags every time I hit a bump. And the thing that really irritates is when I decided to replace the O2 sensors, just 2 weeks after installing the exhaust, both upstream sensors had to be removed with an impact. Which stripped the threads. Which meant another $140 for a heli-coil repair kit for the sockets. AND THEY BOTH SCREWED IN JUST FINE, smooth as a baby's backside. I'm also looking at about $250 dollars to my local exhaust shop for modifications to make everything fit right. The only good thing I can say about this system is the performance increase was impressive. Don't waste your money on this. Just take your car to a shop and have it custom made, you'd be money ahead. And if they give you any grief about cats, haul it in on a trailer and tell them your building a dirt track car.

      Great system but..

I love the way the new exhaust sounds, it really comes alive at 3500 rpm. I have a 2000 v6 manual and it revs a lot easier and you can definitely feel the extra power. The one issue I have with the system is the fitment. To get everything on the tips had to sit at a bit of an angle, and the hanger on the passenger tailpipe is poking through to my bumper because of this I can't give this 5 stars, but overall it's a great exhaust and I would absolutely buy this product. Thanks AM. ps you will need to get a set of MIL eliminators to avoid a check engine code for running rich.
