    Review & Install Video

Justin: Hey everybody, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm here with Vaughn Gittin Jr. to talk to you guys a little bit more about the '05 to '14 RTR Tactical Performance lowering springs for your S197. Now Vaughn, a lot of people at home might not even know the basic purposes of a spring on their Mustang. Can you break that down? Vaughn: Yeah, to put it quite simply, springs essentially hold the car up, define ride height, and help control weight transfer of the car. Justin: Very cool. Now when you and your team were developing the Tactical Performance lowering springs for the S197, what was your main objective? Vaughn: For us, ride quality is extremely important. We want you to enjoy driving your car on the street, but also have some tracking capability. So, we wanted a spring that wasn't too harsh, but was going to give you a significant increase in feel of performance behind the wheel, and now we achieved that 100%. Justin: Very cool. Now let's go over some of the specifics here. Now, 1½" drop all around, correct, a progressive rate spring, so that's going to give you that better ride on the road. Vaughn: Yeah, exactly, and that's exactly how we achieved that, you know. The car rides at a certain rate when it's under standard conditions, but as soon as the car starts to roll over, that rate gets progressive, increases a little bit, and that's when you start really getting the springs holding the car up, and get that more crisp feel and get the car listening to you a lot earlier on your inputs. Justin: Now, overall guys, spring install, again, not that bad. Leave yourself about a half a day in the garage to get this one knocked out. Again, you don't want to forget your spring compressor on this one, absolutely needed. The RTR Tactical Performance lowering springs, again, for your S197, you can grab them and the rest of the RTR line-up right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improves Handling. Installing a set of RTR Tactical Performance Progressive Rate Springs will lower your Mustang's center of gravity, which will reduce squat during acceleration, body roll in the corners, and excessive nose-dive under hard braking. RTR Tactical Performance Springs are great for daily street driving and fun on the track. The progressive rate design offers a great ride quality for street cruising and does not lack performance when you get aggressive on the track.

Aggressive Muscular Stance. RTR Tactical Performance Lowering Springs not only improve the handling of your S197 Mustang, but they also improve the overall appearance by lowering the ride height approximately 1.5" to eliminate that nasty raised 4x4 truck look for a more aggressive muscle car stance.

Recommended Upgrade. Anytime you lower your Mustang, your rear axle gets moved out of alignment. Adding an Adjustable Panhard Bar will not only center your rear axle, but offers great traction during straight-line acceleration as well as superior strength over the factory panhard bar.

Clears Stock and Aftermarket Wheels & Tires. These lowering springs were engineered to be compatible with your factory size wheels and tires, as well as AmericanMuscle's pre-configured wheel and tire combo kits (specific to your generation), to assure proper clearance with no rubbing issues.

Application. This set of four RTR Tactical Performance Lowering Springs are designed for use on the 2005 to 2014 Mustang Coupes, including the V6, GT and Bullitt models. Does not fit Shelby GT500.

How’s the gap if I will have 255/45r18 on front and 285/40r18 on the rear of a base v6 2012? How many inches would the gap be?

    • Gap should be minimal with those sizes. We recommend looking through the customer submitted images to get a good idea of how much wheel gap there will be.

Will they fit on the stock shocks and struts for 2013? unlike the SRs?

    • The RTR Tactical Performance Lowering Springs will work with stock shocks and struts, however due to the 1.5" of lowering, it is recommended as stock shocks and struts will experience accelerated wear at this ride height.

      BEST SUSPENSION INVESTMENT

It didn't take me long to install the springs, as I am a former technician and have a shop at my disposal. I wouldn't say the handling is stiff, but I will say that it is "tighter" It rides how a mustang should ride.

      Nice ride height

Ended up with just under an inch and a half drop front and rear. May settle some after some miles. Install was straight forward, about 4 hours in my garage No poblem if you have the tools and knowlege of disassembling struts. Ride is good, a little firmer than stock which is exspected.

      Lowering springs

This product does exactly as advertised, lowered my car 1.5 inches My clearance is still good and no adverse effects. This product fits exactly as advertised and is worth the price. I had them easily installed at my local ford dealer with no difficulty.

Easy install. Ride is great, sportier than stock springs but not too harsh for the street. I like the way the car looks now.

      Great purchase!

The install wen very easy and smoothly. I didn’t have a spring compressor so i rented one and had no issues installing at all. New springs just fell right into place when the time came for setting them. I did not have the money for coil overs so that’s why i went with springs. It made a huge difference both with the appearance and the handling. I wasn’t expecting the handling to be too big of a difference but it definitely improved it! Well worth the money. I highly recommend if you can’t afford the coil overs yet.

      Mmmmmmmm

At first i was worried that it wouldn't be as low as i wanted it to be. But oh man it looks perfect! The stance is just right and it's not too low that i'm scraping my front and tail end in and out of the driveway...it'll happen though if you don't pay attention.

      2007 GT LOWERED

THESE SPRINGS DID EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED! THE RIDE IS JUST LIKE STOCK AND MAYBE BETTER. THE TIRE-FENDER GAP IS GONE BUT WHAT I LIKE MOST IS THE CAR NOW SITS LEVEL. IT REALLY LOOKS AGGRESSIVE AND COMPLIMENTS THE AM POLISHED CHROME BULLET WHEELS.

      Impressive!

Great springs! I was expecting them to ride a little rough at first, but in reality they ride very similar to the stock springs; Perfect for those who use their car as a daily driver! Really transforms the look of your ride too! Sits much more flat which is a stark change from the factory forward rake and wheel gap. Handling while cornering, braking, and shifting is greatly improved; previously my car would dip forward when shifting gears at high RPMS, and roll while corning. Not an issue anymore, they dont completely eliminate body roll, I'd say its been reduce by about 65-70. LOVE these springs, great buy.

      Great springs

Springs were easy enough to install in driveway. Dropped the car evenly and made it look good and didnt suffer any ride quality. Iv gone RTR on all suspension mods so far and have nothing negative to say about any of their products.

I like my lowered looks with 305/30/19 tires and 275/35/19 in the front I love the look. Took about 4 hrs like the handling but will upgrade the shocks and struts car only has 12000 miles so will see how long stock will last.
