Review & Install Video

Justin: Hey everybody, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm here with Vaughn Gittin Jr. to talk to you guys a little bit more about the '05 to '14 RTR Tactical Performance lowering springs for your S197. Now Vaughn, a lot of people at home might not even know the basic purposes of a spring on their Mustang. Can you break that down? Vaughn: Yeah, to put it quite simply, springs essentially hold the car up, define ride height, and help control weight transfer of the car. Justin: Very cool. Now when you and your team were developing the Tactical Performance lowering springs for the S197, what was your main objective? Vaughn: For us, ride quality is extremely important. We want you to enjoy driving your car on the street, but also have some tracking capability. So, we wanted a spring that wasn't too harsh, but was going to give you a significant increase in feel of performance behind the wheel, and now we achieved that 100%. Justin: Very cool. Now let's go over some of the specifics here. Now, 1½" drop all around, correct, a progressive rate spring, so that's going to give you that better ride on the road. Vaughn: Yeah, exactly, and that's exactly how we achieved that, you know. The car rides at a certain rate when it's under standard conditions, but as soon as the car starts to roll over, that rate gets progressive, increases a little bit, and that's when you start really getting the springs holding the car up, and get that more crisp feel and get the car listening to you a lot earlier on your inputs. Justin: Now, overall guys, spring install, again, not that bad. Leave yourself about a half a day in the garage to get this one knocked out. Again, you don't want to forget your spring compressor on this one, absolutely needed. The RTR Tactical Performance lowering springs, again, for your S197, you can grab them and the rest of the RTR line-up right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improves Handling. Installing a set of RTR Tactical Performance Progressive Rate Springs will lower your Mustang's center of gravity, which will reduce squat during acceleration, body roll in the corners, and excessive nose-dive under hard braking. RTR Tactical Performance Springs are great for daily street driving and fun on the track. The progressive rate design offers a great ride quality for street cruising and does not lack performance when you get aggressive on the track.

Aggressive Muscular Stance. RTR Tactical Performance Lowering Springs not only improve the handling of your S197 Mustang, but they also improve the overall appearance by lowering the ride height approximately 1.5" to eliminate that nasty raised 4x4 truck look for a more aggressive muscle car stance.

Recommended Upgrade. Anytime you lower your Mustang, your rear axle gets moved out of alignment. Adding an Adjustable Panhard Bar will not only center your rear axle, but offers great traction during straight-line acceleration as well as superior strength over the factory panhard bar.

Clears Stock and Aftermarket Wheels & Tires. These lowering springs were engineered to be compatible with your factory size wheels and tires, as well as AmericanMuscle's pre-configured wheel and tire combo kits (specific to your generation), to assure proper clearance with no rubbing issues.

Application. This set of four RTR Tactical Performance Lowering Springs are designed for use on the 2005 to 2014 Mustang Coupes, including the V6, GT and Bullitt models. Does not fit Shelby GT500.

I see various other options require a new bump stop to prevent bottoming out, is that not an issue with this set?

SirRichardLane

  • The RTR Tactical Performance Lowering Springs for the coupe and other springs do not require new bump stops, as the stock ones can be reused. Depending on your shocks and struts, you may be able to get away without using them, however, we strongly recommend using the factory bump stops, or aftermarket bump stops if you do not have the factory units to avoid damage.

will I be needing to buy an adjustable panhard buy like the sr performance lowering springs?

HunterM

  • The panhard bar will not be required with the install of the lowering springs however it is a recommended upgrade to give your car better handling.

I wont have to buy the gt 500 struts and stuff like the sr springs? They just fit on all the stock parts?

AntonZ

  • You do not have to purchase new shocks and struts in conjunction with these springs but I would recommend that as a complete upgrade as if you are using stock shocks and struts, they are not designed to work in correlation with a spring that will lower the ride of the vehicle.

    Thanks American Muscle!

At first I was concerned about the drop not being enough after ordering. But after receiving and installing, couldn't be more satisfied. Height was just right. As always, satisfied with my purchase from American Muscle. They make it easy for choosing the right part.

    Beautiful drop

These springs are definetly one of my favorite products on AmericanMuscle.com, I'm very impressed with the overall look and handling of the RTR springs and will look into more products they offer. Btw if you live in NYC like myself be cautious of pot holes and speed bumps. (You will scrape!)

RTR has me Ready to Rock!

I purchased this springs back in July when AM had a sale going on, but didn't get to put them on until late August, and boy, was the wait worth it. These are hands down the best springs I've ever felt on a Mustang before. They're the perfect middle for comfort, lowering, and handling, and I'm genuinely impressed. Could not be any happier with these, and RTR will definitely be the manufacturer of choice from here on out. (Multiple pictures can be found on my Instagram, @JDavidRich, but I'll try to throw some on here too!)

    Performance springs

Love the new springs, ride quality is nice. Not to stiff. Perfect for when you want to throw the car into the turns, and smooth enough to when you want to cruise back home. Best of both worlds

    awesome s

I originally purchased the sr performance lowering spring because they were on Sale for 100 bucks less but they were out of stock. Im glad they were out of them and i got the rtr instead. I was worried about rubbing all the time with the drop, but no issues they ride way better than stock i also paired them up with whiteline adjustable goodies. And its a night and day difference. Actually rides like it should.

    Great buy for my V6!

These lowering springs were great for my '05 sixer. The only thing I wish that would be better was a little more low in the back. Other than that it is wonderful. The handling and traction has improved greatly. The look now has a more agressive persona to it. I would recommend this highly.

    Supreme quality and great looks

I ordered the RTR Tactical Performance Lowering Springs because I know that the quality of products made for RTR are great. I reviewed other lowering springs and found the reputation of the RTR products to be worth the money. The product was packaged very well and the look of my 2013 Mustang GT has been greatly improved. Ride quality is near stock and the handling is very much improved. I would suggest this product to anyone wanting to lower their Mustang.

    2007 GT LOWERED

THESE SPRINGS DID EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED! THE RIDE IS JUST LIKE STOCK AND MAYBE BETTER. THE TIRE-FENDER GAP IS GONE BUT WHAT I LIKE MOST IS THE CAR NOW SITS LEVEL. IT REALLY LOOKS AGGRESSIVE AND COMPLIMENTS THE AM POLISHED CHROME BULLET WHEELS.

    Impressive!

Great springs! I was expecting them to ride a little rough at first, but in reality they ride very similar to the stock springs; Perfect for those who use their car as a daily driver! Really transforms the look of your ride too! Sits much more flat which is a stark change from the factory forward rake and wheel gap. Handling while cornering, braking, and shifting is greatly improved; previously my car would dip forward when shifting gears at high RPMS, and roll while corning. Not an issue anymore, they dont completely eliminate body roll, I'd say its been reduce by about 65-70. LOVE these springs, great buy.

    Great springs

Springs were easy enough to install in driveway. Dropped the car evenly and made it look good and didnt suffer any ride quality. Iv gone RTR on all suspension mods so far and have nothing negative to say about any of their products.

Greatly Improved the look and feel of my '06 GT

I purchased this set for my '06 GT and it feels an looks fantastic. I live in northern NJ and the roads are far from perfect, however it handles the bumps great and I have experienced no rubbing or bottoming out at all. The ride is noticeably tighter and is not too stiff or too bouncy, I'd have to say it is just the result that I was looking for. Very pleased with this purchase.
