Hi I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at SHR’s push button start ignition kit, fitting all 2010 and newer Mustangs. Push button start kits are one of those interior mods that always seem to get a good reaction from your passengers, it’s a bit of that race car, supercar flavor, that seems to work very well on the interiors of these newer Mustangs. This kit from SilverHorse Racing features an illuminating blue button along with a gloss black anodized aluminum bezel. The kit also includes a pre-wired harness along with all the accessories needed for installation. You do have a couple of options using this kit, for starters you can choose to start the car just using the button alone, or you can allow for both the key or the button to start the car. Secondly, you can choose to have the light either remain illuminated whenever the key is in the ignition, or you can choose to have the button shut off whenever the car is on, and the parking brake has been released. This kit from SilverHorse Racing installs directly into the power outlet located on the upper portion of the dash, so there’s no need for any cutting or drilling, however you will need to disassemble a fair amount of the dash just to gain access to the panel and all the necessary wiring, so we’ll call it 2 hours from start to finish, just to be safe. So if you’re looking to add a touch of supercar styling and functionality to the interior and your 2010 or newer Mustang, then be sure to check out this push button start kit from SHR.

More of a question?
I have a 2010 Ford Mustang. I love the idea of the push button start on it. But I'm not so sure I want to install it where the 12V outlet is at. Wondering and maybe only if you guys can help me out. I was wondering if I can install it where the map light is at? Well in between it. Wondering what you guys think. Please any feed back would help. Thanks guys..Helpful (2)

Easy to install and works great. My only complaint would be that the small allen wrench used to secure the face plate in the register was not included in the kit, and I believe it was supposed to be. Did not have a size that small. Not a big deal though, still made it work. I wasn't using the socket anyways, and this button definitely adds a cool factor and just a little something that's fun to have.Helpful (3)

The item looks good on the dash but there is too much needed to be done to install it. If you don’t pay attention and realize everyone’s car is different.... the finishing product will not turn out well for you. I personally broke a piece of my dash after reviewing that it will “bend back to place”. Overall I really like the way it looks but wish there was videos to show novice people how to installHelpful (3)

Push Start 2011 Mustang GT
great instructions very easy too follow. i installed mine with push button start only. also i removed the light aspect after a couple of days, i found the lighting a little to bright a night. lastly if doing this install the harness you tap into is in the back of steering column on left side not the one you see at 1st. you will understand this point if you install.Helpful (3)

If you have sync READ THIS
if you're having trouble with the airbag and own a mustang that has sync you may want to read this because I tried following the instructions and found myself stranded at this point! Underneath you will see a black box that has many T-20 bits holding it to place. There will be 4 that hold it to the airbag (The ones on the corners) unscrew that and have that hang down out of the way (This is the sync module), now unclip the black plastic piece that is above it, this is done by hand no tools needed for that. Now you may unbolt the two bolts to the the airbag, disconnect the airbag and push it through the center console. This will expose the two bolts. I hope this helps out to anyone that has sync installed on there mustang, but product wise it's a pretty neat mod at a low price, just wish AM would update there directions!Helpful (7)

Must have Item
This is a must have if you want that racing car appearance. Very easy to install. the only thing it's a little bright at night. Would recommend to any mustang ownerHelpful (6)
Button location options? Can this be installed in the center consel?
it says the button replaces the outlet in the center of your dash but that is so you do not have to do and drilling or cutting and it also sets the button in a location your passengers can see it and admire it, not sure how well it would work for car thieves if you have it set up so you dont need the key in the ignition. most people would follow the directions and put it on the dash mainly because they do not have to drill or cut their dash.
What's the point of the push button start if you need a key it's only worth buying if I can hook it up with some Lind of key fob so I don't need to ever use a key is this possible
The SHR Illuminated Push Button Start Ignition Kit includes directions to install needing the key in the "run" position in order for the push to start function to work. In order for this to function as a stand alone start function, PATS would need to be disabled, and an alternative means of wiring this in would need to be found.
So dumb question... I realize it says engine start.. does this button also function to turn the car off?
If you have to go to work and the button doesn't work how do you disable the button so you can use your key to start the car. Any fast way or you going to have to call in that day?
I understand that with this setup, the key has to be in the ignition. But could this work with the Raxiom Push Start Passive Keyless Entry System as the alternative to their button? I love the looks of this button, but I prefer the functionality of the passive entry.
That is a very good question! We are not sure if they would work together as we have not attempted that installation. If you are a confided DIY-er they could likely be installed together, but we would not be able to advise on installation, so this would be a bit of an exploratory adventure. I do not see why they would not be able to work together though!
This will need to key turned in the run position for this push-button start to work.
This would be more for looks rather than function yes. While you do push the button to start the car you will still be required to have the key turned so all the electronics are on.
Hello! The SHR Illuminated Push Button Start Ignition Kit does require the key to be in the iginition to function.
Hey there! Sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your AC after installing this item. To better help you out, please call or email us! www.americanmuscle.com/contact.html
Unfortunately this will take the ability to charge your phone away because of it's location in the power outlet.
You will still need your key to the on position for this push button start to work. With out the key to the on position the car will not start.
There is a lot of work that will need to go into installing this push start. You are looking to pretty much disassemble the dash and the kick panels as well as the center console just to have the button properly wired. To make sure that you do not have any loose parts, I would recommend having it installed by a collision shop or a body shop. Like any other push start found on our site you will need to have your key in the ignition turned to the have the electronics turned on, and your foot on the brake pedal.
Unfortunately this is an internal electrical problem that would need to be fixed before installing this push button start. I would recommend having this electrical issue fixed first before installing this kit. I would recommend talking to some other Mustang enthusiast on the forums about what different shops across the country have done to address this issue.
The key needs to be in the ignition and then the button needs to be depressed. To me, that defeats the purpose of have a start button. If the key is already in the ignition, why not just finish turning it to start the car?
Knowing that these buttons come in three basic colors, I don't think the buttons are capable of changing with the ambient lighting system. The different colors are achieved by heavily tinting the button plastic, so unless they can come out with a clear button, I don't think the changing colors can be realized. Maybe down the road that will happen ...... Good Luck
