Noah: I'm Noah with AmericanMuscle. And today, we're looking at the SR Performance Sport Coil-Over Kit for the '05 to '14 Mustang. This coilover kit is an aggressive street-oriented setup for the Mustang owner who's looking to lower their ride and improve their car's handling capabilities dramatically. Now, there are some neat features on this coilover kit that we're going to take a look at, firstly being how dramatic of a drop you can get on them. Now, these guys can lower the overall ride height to a max of 3 inches in the front and the back, and that gives you plenty of room for adjustment and to really dial in the ride height, which is something that sets coilovers on a higher tier than something like a lowering spring setup, where you're stuck in a static position with no way to perfect the look and feel of your suspension. These guys feature a 36-way adjustable monotube strut that's been tuned to work with the rates of these springs. These guys also offer 32 clicks of dampening adjustment so that you can dial in the exact ride stiffness that you'd like. So, we're looking at some pretty stout build quality here. Everything is constructed from metal, and there aren't any cheap plasticy feeling parts. Everything's coated in a protective finish to combat corrosion. We are looking at a 392-foot-pound front spring rate and a rear 336-pound spring rate. These guys are designed to drop right in. There's no modification needed, and they come with everything that you need to get them bolted up just where the old ones were.Coming in right around the $750 price point, these coilovers from ISC proved to be a decent price for a complete install kit that doesn't require any other parts for the install. Now, one more thing I'd like to note is that something like a lowering spring kit may be a little bit lower in the price range than a set of coilovers. However, they still require spring compression and some labor to get the struts assembled before installation. Now, coilovers may be a little bit more expensive, but I do believe that they're worth the investment in the long run.Installing these guys on your Mustang can prove to be a time-consuming and difficult job. We're looking at a 3 out of 3 wrenches of difficulty and four hours for the install time. That job is going to require some mechanical skill or a professional to get the job done. After getting them installed, make sure you get an alignment schedule before you drive any long distances so that you don't ruin your tires with any nasty or uneven wear. Now, speaking of install, let's head over to the install bay and get these on our Mustang.Man: For this install, you'll need a 3/8 impact or ratchet, a 1/2-inch impact, a clip removal tool, an 18-millimeter wrench, a 19-millimeter wrench, a 13/16 wrench, a 21-millimeter socket, a 19-millimeter socket, an 18-millimeter socket, a 15-millimeter socket, a 14-millimeter socket, a 13-millimeter socket, a 12-millimeter socket, a 10-millimeter socket, an 8-millimeter 1/4-inch socket, 6-millimeter Allen wrench, a caliper hanger tool, a 1/4-inch ratchet, a 10-millimeter wrench, and also you need a floor jack and pole jacks. All right. Today, we're gonna install some coilovers on our Mustang. So, let's get started with the uninstall. All right. Now that we have the wheel off the front, first thing we need to do for the uninstall is take the caliper off. We need to take that off so that when this folds down, it doesn't pull tension on the hose. All right. We're gonna grab our impact with our 12-millimeter socket. We're gonna take the two bolts out to hold the caliper on. With those removed, you're gonna grab a caliper hanger tool or a bungee cord, whatever you have, just rock the caliper off. We're hanging up out of the way so it doesn't pull tension. All right. Next thing that we can do, there is a 10-millimeter bolt on the back side of the strut that holds on our ABS wire and our brake line. So, we're gonna take that off. Just move that out of the way. All right. Next thing that we need to do is we need to take the clip off the ABS wire that's holding onto the strut. So, we're going to grab our clip removal tool, just pop it behind there, and just twist it off. All right. Next thing that we need to do is we need to remove our sway bar link from our factory strut. So, we're gonna grab our impact and our 18-millimeter socket and take that nut off. Once the nut is off, just pull it back through the strut and let it rest on the side. All right. Next thing we need to do is we need to take the two main strut mount bolts out of the bottom. They are an 18-millimeter socket. We'll start with the bottom. Now, the bottom bolt does have this retaining tab on the nut, so just remember that. All right. Now, if the nut starts to spill on the other side, you can grab a 13/16 wrench, just hold the nut. Then we can remove our bolts. All right, just gently let it rest out. All right, last thing we need to do is remove our four nuts for the top mount. We'll start off. We'll remove three of them. Now that you got three removed, you're gonna hold on to the strut underneath so it doesn't fall and remove the last one. Just drop it at the bottom. All right. And now, we can repeat the same process for the other side. All right. Now to start uninstalling the rear, first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna get some pole jacks just to support the rear end for when we do drop it down. And then, we need to start by disconnecting sway bar links. So, we're gonna take our 15-millimeter bolts out of the top of both mounts, and then you can just pull the sway bar down and let it hang. All right. Next thing that we're gonna do is we're gonna go to our brake line mounts. So, we're gonna take our 10-millimeter bolt out of here on either side. Just pop that out and let that hang down. And do the same thing on the other side. All right. Next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna take our bottom bolts out for our shocks, and then we're gonna be able to lower the rear gently and let it hang down so we can remove the shocks from the top. So, we're gonna grab our 15-millimeter socket and remove these bolts. All right. Now that we have our bottom shock bolts out, we can evenly drop the rear so we can let it hang. All right. Now that the rear is hanging by itself, you can pull down a little bit, and we can remove our rear coil spring. And then, we are also going to remove our factory insulators. All right. Now that we got the car lowered back down, all we need to do is remove the two top mounts for the shocks and the rear trunk. All right. Now what we need to do is we need to get the carpet out of the way, just pull that back. Now, we can access our bolt, and we're gonna grab our impact with our 15-millimeter socket and take that off. Now, you can remove the shock from the bottom. Just do the same thing on the other side. All right. And now, the shock will come right out.All right. Now, since the kit comes with new sway bar links, we need to remove the old sway bar link. So, we're gonna grab an 18-millimeter wrench and a ratchet with an 8-millimeter socket on it to hold the stud. All right. Now, we can install our new sway bar link. It does come with a supplied 19-millimeter nut. You will also need a 6-millimeter Allen wrench to hold the inside of the stud so it doesn't spin. All right. We are ready to install our new coilover. We're going to reuse our four 13-millimeter nuts that we took off to take the old strut out and install the new one. All right. Now, we just need to get the knuckle up into the lower mount of the strut. You may need to jack up the lower control arm because of how much shorter this coilover is compared to the factory strut. Just slide it in the slot, jack it up, and line the holes up.All right. Now, we're gonna grab our impact with our 18-millimeter socket and our 13/16 wrench if we need it. All right. Now, we just need to reinstall our new sway bar link into our strut, pop it through the hole. All right. And we're gonna grab our supplied 19-millimeter nut and tighten that down. Now that we got the sway bar link on, it is adjustable, so when you get it to where you would like it, all you need to do is grab a 19-millimeter wrench and tighten down the locking nuts. All right. Now, on the backside, we can take our supplied 13-millimeter bolt and lock washer, and we can put our bracket back on for the brake line and ABS wire. Now, we can take our ABS wire, clip it back into our strut, and then we can put our caliper back on. Take our hanger off, slide it back over the pads, put our 12-millimeter bolts that we took out back in.All right. Now, we can just repeat the same process for the other side. All right. Now, we are ready to install our new coolovers. Just gonna go over how this gets assembled. We're gonna start with our small rubber mount at the bottom, put our adjuster on or spring, and then our top rubber mount. And then, we can place that over the axle, and then we'll raise the axle up together. All right. We can start by putting the bottom half in, taking the spring, bring it over top. And now that both sides are in, we can raise the axle up evenly together and get them seated into place. All right. Now, we are ready to install our new shock. Just when you get ready to install it, you just need the one plate at the bottom, and the one rubber bushing, and then we can place it up there and put our bolt through the bottom. And we can take our 15-millimeter socket and tighten that down. Then we can do the same thing on the other side. All right. Now, we are ready to reinstall our sway bar links. Just bring them up together. We're going to grab our impact and our 15-millimeter socket and tighten them down. All right. Now that we have the car lowered, you may need to put a jack under it just to raise the rear up a little bit to get the shocks back up into place. But now we're ready to assemble the rear, we're gonna go rubber mount, metal washer, and the new supplied 14-millimeter nut. All right. We do the same thing for the other shock. Now that we have the rear axle back up and not hanging, we can reinstall our 10-millimeter bolt that we took out of our bracket for the brake line. We can do the same thing for the other bracket on the other side. All right. That wraps it up for our install of our SR Performance Sport Coil-Over Kit for our 2005 to 2014 Mustang. Remember, for everything Mustang, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.
