Review & Install Video
Hey, guys, Adam here with americanmuscle.com. Today I'm bringing you a detailed overview of the SR Performance Rear Shock, fitting all 2005 to 2014 Mustangs. In this video I'll be going over the benefits and performance of the SR Performance Rear Shock, as well as when it's a good idea to pick up a new replacement for your factory option. I'll talk about the materials and construction and then top the video off with the installation, which I'll let you know up front, gets a solid two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter.
If you're the owner of a '05 to '14 Mustang, you probably thought about upgrading your suspension and overall improving your handling of the rear end of your Mustang. Now with that said, the first step, in addition to picking up a set of springs, is to improve and upgrade your shocks and struts. Here with me today I have one portion of the equation which is gonna be the SR Performance Rear Shock. The SR Performance Rear Shock is a non-adjustable option that can improve your overall handling and performance of the rear end of your S197. It acts as an ideal replacement for those blown out parts or if you're just looking to gain some improved control in those hard-driving situations.
The rear shock is perfectly capable of handling your commute as a daily driver or some light track or auto-cross usage. Now if you're really looking to fine tune your suspension to a customized preference, now that's something you might have to pick up an adjustable rear shock just to get that fine tune adjustment to make it either loser or stiffer, depending on your personal ride.
Some of you guys might not wanna spend the money and pick up an extra rear shock, if you don't have to. There's definitely some symptoms to let you know it's time to replace your rear shocks because they're getting blown out. Some of those symptoms may include a poor ride quality, excessive nosedive at the front or rear end squatting while braking or accelerating, or even if you notice a dent or leak coming from your rear shock. Now if it's a rear shock dent or leak, it's definitely time to get that replacement going, in which case the SR Performance Rear Shock is going to be the ideal, perfect OEM replacement.
Now another good time to pick up a rear shock replacement like the SR one here is when you're going with a set of lowering springs or if you've got that in your build list for the near future. These are definitely fine-tuned to be working more fittingly with a set of lowering springs with a firmer spring rate and a lower ride height for a better overall ride. Now that of course combined with rear shocks and even the front struts together, will definitely make for a more comfortable ride overall and will be a noticeable improvement over the factory options.
So as I mentioned a bunch of times, this is an OEM direct fit replacement, and from the manufacturer, it has a twin tube gas pressurized design with a larger diameter piston for better dampening and overall improvement in rebound, over your stock option. On top of that, it's got a steel outer housing, all finished in a black durable powder-coated finish just to give it that good look and of course corrosion resistance. And when it comes to shopping around for rear shocks on the site, you'll notice there are a lot of options for the '05 to '14 S197 generations.
This particular option from SR Performance is without a doubt going to be one of the most budget friendly options, giving you a comfortable suspension at a pre-affordable price coming in just shy of $100. Now with that said, this is sold separately, so if you're looking to pick up two, you gotta pick up two individually. So just factor them into the price tag when you're taking a look around.
Shifting gears over to the installation portion of the video, like I said in the very beginning, this install isn't too terribly difficult but it does get a two out three wrenches on our difficulty meter. If you are tackling it yourself, you'll have to have the right tools on hand, as well as a couple of hours in the drive-way at home. Now speaking of those tools, you'll need a simple set of sockets, as well as a spring compressor to safely remove the springs from your setup. Now with that said, if you aren't looking to take care of this one yourself, there's no shame handing it over to one of the professionals to get it done properly.
Wrapping things up here, if you're the owner of an '05 to '14 Mustang and you're looking for a very budget-friendly replacement for your rear shocks, if they've blown out or if you're looking for a more comfortable suspension ride, then you might wanna check out the SR Performance Rear Shock available right here at americanmuscle.com.
