    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

In this video, we're going to walk you through the install of the SR performance short throw shifter and shifter bracket, available at Tools required to install both the shifter and the bracket include a socket wrench, a few assorted extensions, a 10 millimeter deep socket, Allen key, razor, and finally a jack and jack stands or a lift to access the underside of the vehicle.Total install time should take you roughly two hours from start to finish. Start by removing the factory shift knob by spinning it counter clockwise. Remove the top part of your center console by opening the storage area at the back of the arm rest and pull up. Be sure to unplug any electrical connections before setting the console out of the way. Remove the fabric insulation first, and then the rubber boot from the factory shifter, exposing the four 10 millimeter bolts securing the shifter to the transmission. Support the vehicle properly with jack stands or a lift. Begin removing the shifter bracket assembly, located underneath the car.Using a 10 millimeter deep socket and a long extension, remove the two nuts securing the shifter bracket to the vehicle. You may have to remove a small metal clip that holds the bracket in place. Now, remove the factory shifter bracket. Disassemble the SR performance shifter bracket by removing the four Allen bolts holding it together, and slide the pieces apart. To install the new shifter bushing, you'll have to first cut the bushing using your razor to allow it to wrap around the shifter assembly snout.Slide the thin metal piece of the shifter bracket onto the snout of the shifter. Then, install the bushing around the snout so that it matches the retaining plate you installed in the previous step. Slide the thickest part of the bracket over the bushing and attach it with the rear plate. And then bolt the assembly back together using the four Allen bolts you removed earlier. Loosely reinstall the two 10 millimeter nuts holding the bracket to the vehicle. But do not fully tighten yet.The shifter and bracket assembly will need to remain lowered in order to access one of the bolts on the top side of the shifter. Back inside the car, now remove the four 10 millimeter bolts holding the shifter to the transmission, and set the bolts aside as they will be reused later. Gently, pull the shifter up and out of the vehicle. You will need to remove the plastic cuff on the factory shifter and transfer it over to the new SR performance unit. Now, install the new shifter into the vehicle by sliding it back into the top of the transmission and bolt it down using the four 10 millimeter bolts you removed earlier. With the shifter installed, you can now fully tighten the two bolts underneath the car, securing the shifter bracket to the chassis. Back in the cabin, reinstall the interior including the rubber shift boot first, making sure the arrows pointed down and facing the rear of the car. Then reinstall the fabric insulation.Plug in any electrical connections and then reinstall the center console, snapping it into place. Finally, screw on the shift knob, and that's it. The install is complete. Now, go out and enjoy shorter more accurate throws, thanks to the SR performance short throw shifter and shifter bracket, available here at

I have this shifter in my 2014 V6 and have experienced this same problem with the reverse lockout being basically non-existent. Very difficult to shift into first without ending up in reverse instead. Is there some adjustment in the shifter than can increase the amount of Lock-out so that you need to really press down for reverse? As it is, no downward pressure is required. Perhaps this is why Ford changed the lock-out to a pull-up in 2015's.

        • There is a spring that controls the amount of force that is required to active the lock out function, by changing the spring you change that force.

I have this installed in my 2011 V6. Initially, I lost one of the screws to mount the shifter but put it all together anyway to test drive it. I could not get it into Reverse without holding it in position. Then I replaced the missing screw and now Reverse works fine but I'm having issues getting into 1st and 2nd. My guess based on what I've seen is that the 4 screws holding the shifter down need to be torqued evenly. Any suggestions?

        • We would recommend removing the shifter, ensuring everything is properly lubricated and operating freely, and reinstalling torquing the fasteners evenly.

Will this shifter work on the 2013 5.0 because I read that the 2013 have the new shift box design (Canadian made)that is 2.0" instead of the 1.8" that the 11-12 were supposivelt equipped with so will this fit my 2013 gt?

        • No it will not I have a '14 GT and it is the 2 inch space apposed to the 11-12 models at 1.8 inches. After install it was nearly impossible to tell if I was in first or reverse. Also from first to second it would slip into that grove for reverse and could not get into second without pulling stick to the right. All in all it's sloppy I went with the Barton and it's heaven compared to this. Still used the SR bracket no issues there.

            Not worth it!!

Trust me don't get it. Spend the extra money and get something good. Reverse lockout does not work at all. Waste of time and money.

            Great add on

Easy to install and fits perfect. shifts way better then the stock one. If your looking for a bolt on that doesn't break the bank, is functional and looks good, then this is a great buy.

Just put my Mustang back on the road. I live in Canada, so it's off the road for the winter.I installed it this winter, with the SR performance bracket. The difference between the stock shifter, and this shifter is day and night. No missed shifts now, and going from 6th to 2nd for passing, is no problem. Reverse lock out works fine, just a lighter push down pressure is needed over the stock shifter. This is a must have mod! It makes it easy to get the power to the road. The way it should have have shifted from the factory.

The item was easy to install and if you are confused there is a detailed video that you could watch. Only gripe is that when in neutral there is a little bit of play. Everything else works as it should.

Would recommend if they fix the 1-2 shift

Every time I shift from first to second I'm always hitting the gate to go into reverse so it's like I miss second every time because! There is no reverse lockout with this shifter of so it sucks

So first 2-3 months with it, it worked fine shifted well and performed as it should. After that, 1st gear was no longer left and up. It was pretty much where 3rd gear was. 2nd gear was no longer left and down. it was pretty much where 4th was. (just a tiny bit left of 3rd and 4th, not actually where 3rd and 4th was). As of a week ago, the dang thing broke. In half. I can pull up on my knob and the whole half of the shifter comes with it. I would recommend not using for racing or hard shifts. MGWftw

Good shifter, lots of bang for the buck!

I read every review i could find on this shifter before purchasing it instead of the hurst. Most bad reviews seemed to come from those who were not mechanically inclined, so i pulled the trigger and bought it along with control arms and a panhard bar(still payed less for everything than i would have on just the hurst!). After replacing the spring with a stronger one to suit my driving style, i installed it in my driveway at night with a flashlight. After testing i am very happy with it and the sr shift bracket. Dont hesitate, its good product or american muscle wouldn't sell it!

Good shifter, firmer shifts but watch reverse

The shifter fits well and looks great. The only issue is that the reverse lockout doesn't always work. I mostly find it to be an issue when shifting to first when coming to a stop. It's very easy to wind up in reverse instead of first. Other than that, I've found that the shifter works very well and shifting is much firmer than stock (or stock with the SR bracket). I like the positive way it clicks into each gear as opposed to the stock shifter. As for the first/reverse issue, it's only a problem when you're starting off. So, I just am more careful when starting from a light, etc. I also try not to put any downward pressure on the shifter when shifting to first. So far, so good.

            Great shifter on a budget!

I bought this shifter because like most Mustang GT owners we want just that little bit extra. The shifter is great for the price that it's offered at. It firmed up the shifts and shortened the throws as advertised. It took me and a friend of mine 15 minutes to install so that was a plus. I will say if you're buying the shifter to eliminate the 1~2 lock out or the 3 to 4 high RPM lockout you will probably want to also purchase the WhiteLine transmission mount insert. The combination of the two solved the problem and the car feels amazing now.

            Get what you pay for.

This is a cheap product. It works but not going to blow your sox off. I am overall happy but it could have been better. The Sifter comes installed backwards which is a huge mistake by the vendor. Sometimes now my car will go in reverse rather then first since it is a small shaft. Easy install just a pain to get your arm through the drive shaft and H Pipe.

            Highly Under-rated!

I've heard a lot of people who don't own this shifter and bracket say to stay far away from it. I didn't listen, and I'm $200 heavier in my wallet, and totally satisfied because of it. People saying that it doesn't have any change in throw over stock must not have installed it right (somehow... because it's a pretty brainless install...). It came with instructions that are very easy to follow, with decent color pictures to help explain the process.Install was literally removing four 10mm bolts on top, two 10mm nuts on the bottom, and the allen bolts that are part of the bracket itself. The longest parts of the install were lifting the car high enough to slide all the way back to the rear of the trans, and undoing the 10mm nuts off of the long winded bolts holding the bracket on. Install took me about 45 minutes including lifting the car. It's a bit clunkier sounding than stock, but I don't think you'll be able to find an aftermarket shifter worth anything that isn't. Road noise is a bit louder, but not enough that it is irritating to drive (although that is subjective and I guess you'll just have to find out for yourself). The shifts are very crisp and clean and overall this is a great kit for tightening up the sloppy feeling stock gearbox. It's perfect for a daily driver. It kind of reminds me of the pro 5.0 shifters for the old T5's. I'm impressed by the little shifter that everyone said to stay away from.

            Great Updgrade for the Money

I had Purchased a Barton shifter 2 yrs ago and happened to break in the Stem. Barton would not allow me to get a refund or a new shifter. When I saw the SR shifter on sale for $64.99 I had to get it along with the Shift Bracket. It is a small noticeable difference in the shifting throw. The shifts are now more stiff and solid than the stock shifter but with the Shift bracket it makes a perfect pair for me since I usually like to shift pretty hard. You will no longer miss 2nd or 5th on your pedal to the metal launches. I hope this shifter will last me longer than 2 yrs since I am beginning to love it.

            The Worst Mistake Possible

by far the worst shifter I have purchased, the SR shifter does not retain the reverse lock out, from first to second gear the shifter locked me out plenty of times just rolling around town, I would recommend the barton shifter over the SR..

            Decent Shifter for the money.

The throw on this shifter is reduced somewhat. The feel is much notchier, too much for me at first, but as it wears in it seems to be getting better. It is louder, but that was to be expected. The only drawback is that when resting your hand on the shifter while shifting it is really easy to slip in to reverse. Once you get used to it though, it is quite a nice improvement.
