Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Stephanie with americanmuscle.com, here with a review of the Stainless Power Long Tube Catted Headers available for 2015 and up S550 GT Mustangs. In this video, we're going to be looking at a few different things in regards to these headers. We're going to talk about the materials and construction of the headers themselves and the install, too. I'll talk more about this later on, but I can tell you right now that long tube headers make for a difficult install, so I'm going to call this one a three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. The Stainless Power Catted Long Tube Headers are going to be a good option for someone looking for a natural finish stainless steel long tube that's going to maintain the use of cats and maintain three-inch connection pipes, but that'll step down to two-and-a-half inches for a cat-back. The connection pipes that come with these headers are three-inch catted pipes that have a step down which means that you'll need a two-and-a-half inch cat-back. Long tube headers are going to offer both performance and sound gains, but the end result of your headers will depend on the rest of your setup. The runners on these particular headers are one-and-seven-eighths inch which is slightly different than the one-and-three-quarter inch offering. Traditionally you see forced induction cars running larger runners and NA cars running smaller runners, but I wouldn't really say that that's a hard and fast rule especially with the new Coyotes. So you don't have to have a power adder to run a one-and-seven-eighths inch diameter. You just need to keep in mind your current mods and the goals you have for your car when you're looking around as well as what going with this size runner will do to your power band with the mods that you have. If you have some bolt-ons and you're still NA, you might see a hit on your low-end torque. Once you spin the Coyote motor up the larger diameter is going to help keep things moving, so what you're going to see are top end gains. Getting into specifics here, these are a 304 stainless steel header that has a natural or raw finish which is going to be different than a chrome or ceramic coated header. It obviously doesn't have the polished appearance that a chrome header would have. While these do not have a ceramic coating either, they are made from that 304 stainless steel tubing, so you won't have to worry about corrosion. This is mandrel bent tubing which is going to help with smoother air delivery. The header flanges here are also laser cut, and they do that to prevent leaks and create a good fit. The primary tubes then merge down to a three-inch collector with Venturi style merge spikes that are going to optimize exhaust flow. Then, you have your connection pipes here. Like I said earlier they're three-inch and they are catted, and they're going to step down to two-and-a-half inches. That means you can bolt up your factory cat-back or an aftermarket two-and-a-half inch one, so you have some flexibility there. If we move on to price, as we all pretty much know, or you'd know if you've been shopping for long tubes, that they're pretty much going to be a solid investment. They're pricy, and they're difficult to install. This option from Stainless Power since they are a higher quality item made from great materials are going to be on the more expensive side. Not to mention the one and seven-eighths inch option that we have here is going to be slightly more expensive, which isn't unusual to see when you compare it to a smaller runner. You do tend to see that the larger runners cost more than the smaller runners, but not usually by very much at all. You're looking at spending just over $1100 for a set of these right here, but you do have to keep in mind all the benefits and power that you'll be getting from this setup. And to put things in perspective, it's not just these headers are going to be expensive. You're going to be looking at headers costing very close to or over $1000 anyway no matter what brand you go with. As for the install on this one, long tubes are always going to be a difficult install. I don't say this often but if you don't have a helping hand or you don't have much experience it might be better to just take the car to a shop for the install. If you do tackle this yourself, it's going to be a full three out of three wrenches on the scale and a day in the garage. You're going to need your toolbox for this one with an assortment of different sockets, wrenches, and extensions. You're looking at things like disconnecting the steering shaft, dropping the starter and removing a motor mount. A lot of this install obviously requires working in some pretty tight areas, so while everything is straightforward, getting access and maneuverability in these areas is actually tricky which is why you need to pull a motor mount on one side so you can raise the motor slightly with a jack to give you some more room. Having a helping hand, in this case, is really going to benefit you. But a day of wrestling and some pretty pennies spent on these mods is totally worth it in my opinion.Wrapping things up with the Stainless Power Long Tube Catted Headers, these are 304 stainless steel headers with one-and-seven-eighths inch runners and three-inch collectors that run down to three-inch connection pipes that'll step down to two-and-a-half inches. As usual, you can check them out more online for yourself right here at americanmuscle.com.

Does anyone know if these are compatible with the Lund ghost cam tune? I know the tune stipulates the catalytic converter must be removed, but will it work with the high-flow cats on these headers, or do the cats have to be COMPLETELY removed? Thanks

          Sounds nasty

These are great if you want to mix and match your cat back with a different brand of headers. Install was what you would expect with headers. They will test your patience but if you have a lick of experience and acess to a lift it's definitely doable in a day. I split mine between two days just so I could relax a bit on my weekend. Over all sounds great and with a tune from vmp the car rips. Definitely recommend

          Great mod

If you’re looking for an aggressive sound. Well this is it. Pair them up with the Corsa Sport Catback and it sounds amazing. You do feel a slight lost of power at the low end but it feels more responsive at the higher rpms. Cold starts are a work of art. It’s like waking up the a beast every morning. Your neighbors might start hating you. Lol

          Great headers for the money

These headers paired with my Magnaflow Street Series cat back sound amazing. I usually work on my own cars but, when it came to installing the headers, I brought them to my local performance shop and had them installed professionally along with a custom dyno tune. The headers look great installed and fit perfectly. With only headers, 3" catback and cold air intake, my 17 PP GT put down 425hp/390tq to the wheels!

          Awsome Power Gain

I purchased the headers and had them installed recently. The installer said it was a relatively easy install. Looking from under the hood down, the bay is full and also full of power gain. I was amazed at the amount of noticeable power. I have to say it was money well spent.

          Incredible

Me and a friend installed them in my garage over a weekend. The difference between the stock headers and these are absolutely massive. I thought my Mustang was loud before but I sure was proven wrong when I fired it up after the install. Just idling you can hear the power coming from the exhaust. My cold starts where so beautifully loud that BAMA had to dial them back because apparently my Home Owners Association doesn't appreciate it like I do at 5AM every morning. Besides the sound, the power and results just blew me away. It's an entirely different car and I was not prepared for what I was going to witness. You can feel the massive increase immediately. It's not a small increase either, it's noticeably large and I love it. Like my buddy always said regarding performance parts... There's your bolt ons, there's your tune, then there is headers. Buckle up.

          Great power gains.

The headers come out with very good quality in all points. I would not even notice they are manufacture overseas. I can feel an increase in power together with a tune from Bama. The engine is more responsive and also my Borla Stype catback is a bit louder at WOT only but still sounds fantastic, like a race car. I have received lots of compliments about the sound. My only issue is that the passenger side header is slightly touching the frame when I turn left causing small vibrations. But I'm pretty sure I will be able to fix it.

          Quality at a reasonable price

I had a local shop install the headers which did take longer than anticipated. Considering the cost and the gain in performance these are a must have. My 2015 GT put down 427hp and 408tq to the tire with a combo of cold air intake, headers and catback exhaust, all of this on 91 pump gas and cutom tune.
