    Review & Installation Video

Hey everyone I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and I’m taking a look at a very underrated part that will drastically improve your rides handling all while taking it easy on your wallet. I’m referring to the Strut Tower Braces available in black and chrome for all 94-04 Mustangs. Strut tower braces are great for a couple of different reasons, the first and most obvious plus is the fact that they reduce unwanted chasse flex which simply mean that your ride is going to handle a little better. A byproduct of the bar is it really adds to the under hood styling of your ride especially if you opt for the show worthy chrome finish here in front of me, or if you like to keep things sleek and under the radar in your hood then you might want to opt for our powder coated black finish shown behind me on our 98 GT. These bars are constructed from ultra-strong tubular steel which help keep the front end from flexing while the under load throughout turns. These bars also feature a mounting point on the firewall that really helps the front end to feel a lot more solid. So while these options may not be as flashy as our other strut bars, this brace is all business. This bar does require a small amount of work to get everything installed properly you will need to remove your windshield wipers and the upper cal panel just so you can access the bolts connecting this brace to the firewall. In addition to that you will need to drill into your strut towers as well. Well I know this sounds a little daunting, don’t worry, as long as you follow the detailed instructions on this page you should be all wrapped up in about 2 hours. Any knowledgeable car enthusiast will tell you that a good performance suspension is a sum of all its parts with that in mind will this bar help you turn over a g in the skid pad alone? Probably not, but it will tighten things up dramatically and it will look great under the hood while doing so.

Reduce Body Flex. When your carving the corners the last thing you want to feel is chassis flex when you rev the engine. This SR Performance Strut Tower Brace is designed for both the GT and V6 Mustang to reduce that unwanted body flex. And is a must for all Mustang owners.

Quality Construction. The SR Performance Mustang Strut Tower Brace is made from super strong steel tubing to keep your front end from flexing from the torque of your motor and is finished with a classic black powdercoat finish for great looks and durability.

Simple Bolt-on Installation. This SR Performance Strut Tower Brace is a simple bolt-on that clears the factory intake manifold and is easily install with basic hand tools.

Application. The SR Performance Black Mustang Strut Tower Brace is designed to fit your 1994 to 2004 V6 or GT Mustang. It will not fit SVT Cobra's, Bullitts or Mach 1 Mustangs.

Will this fit in my mustang if I have a large JLT intake already installed? The intake tube is approximatley 4.5 inches

    Scarlet

    • I measured the stock GT intake and it is about a 4" diameter. There is a 1/2" clearance for that intake. I believe your intake would be able to fit, considering the above., although it could be a bit tight. I'd take the chance. The tower bar does make a big difference in the handling, says a guy (me) who had it installed on a 4.6 GT convertible. Cowl shake's history.

Is it really necessary to notch out the plastic firewall cover for the install ? Seems like just drilling through the plastic would make a strong enough connection to that portion of the brace ? Any thoughts

    BobbyB

    • The SR Performance Black Strut Tower Brace will require trimming the firewall cover, as placing this over the plastic cover will push it out further, causing too large of a gap between the front mounts and strut towers.

      02 GT

I have a 2002 Mustang GT. The Strut tower brace was easy to install. Took about an hour and a half maybe a little less then that to install. It really helps the car handle better. With the strut brace installed you can tell that the car is stiffer. It makes cornering a lot easier at a little faster speeds.

Great mod with a few flaws

With this strut tower brace installed, you will notice a huge difference in the stiffness of your Mustang. The car feels so much more responsive in corners (especially convertibles) and handles like a dream! Drilled holes are necessary for installation so be sure to double check that the brace is directly in the center of the engine bay and close the hood to ensure clearance. Other than those potential issues, this strut tower brace is a must-have for any 94-04 V6 or GT!

      Black Strut Tower Brace

Great Product. Durable and a very easy install. There is a noticeable difference of having this compared to not having it install in terms of chasis flex.

      Here it is.............

A simple bolt on? Are ya nuts? Drilling holes, jacking the car up to fit a bolt. Both sides no less!!!! I have not put the product on yet......A lot of traking this and that off before you can drill the holes into the body of the car............

      nice cheap mod

i have an intake spacer installed in my v6, had trouble fitting the brace without hitting so i hacked it up and made it a nice 2 point brace. I have no regrets in buying this as it still looks good and it was cheap!

      Added parts

Im pleased with the product. However there is a clearance issue with the throttle body for the v6. So if your planning on getting it you will need to buy spacers for the bolts.

      Not a bad product

All in all, I'm pleased with this product. There are a few issues I did have with this though. One, the welds were a little off and the mounting points did not line up. It was tough to mock up before install because of this until after it was put in the vice and carefully bent back to proper place. And the second issue is my bigger issue with this product. I have bad contact with the brace and the hood on both sides. I measured everything and looked on forums and I have this thing dead center under the hood and mounted as low as it possibly could and it still hits my hood. I had to cut a hole on both sides of my hood to be able to get my hood have proper fitment with the fenders. I didn't realize the issue until after I closed the hood and it put a lot of stress on my fiberglass hood and put a small crack in the paint. No worries to me because the hood needs a repaint anyway, but just a fair warning to those who have good, clean hoods to be careful and learn from my mistake. But all in all I'm happy with this. Car handles better, didn't break my wallet, very fast install even with having to drill all the holes, I can't complain too much.

      Can't make it fit.

We build hot rods, so we know how to make parts fit, but I am going to call tomorrow and send this part back. It is nowhere close to fitting my 04. The plates that bolt to the strut towers are bent at the wrong angle to cup the tower correctly, and the entire brace is too short to go all the way back to touch the firewall. About an inch gap between brace and firewall when seated. The instructions are horrible, lousy 3rd generation copies that you can not read. I should have bought Maximum Motorsports brace, all their parts I have bought so far fit the way they should. I cheaped out on this part and am paying the price now.

      Strut Tower Brace

This Brace will not fit a 98 V6 without bending the brace itself. The brace hits the top of the engine and does not even touch the mounting points by the shocks without having to be bent. So currently I have a $130 pience on metal siting in my garage that I can't use for anyting.

      Post Install tip

Have a 2000 GT convertible in Sunburst Gold. It needed new shocks and a tower strut for better handling (just got the car and the first owner had not considered performance much, I guess. First suspension up-grade and tune-up after about 70,000 miles. After the install, all I seemed to see under the hood were big shiny install bolts and two holes where the tower was attached to the firewall. I decided this needed a remedy. My solution was to purchase a product called Brush-On- Electrical Tape (or liquid rubber). THis came in a small can with an applicator included. I covered the bolts and the openings with a few coats. The color black matched the under-hood hosing, etc. Now, the bolts are pretty nion-existant and they're protected, too. I even coated the upper bolts of the struts. Very clean and tidy now. Car runs better, too!

Install was tough job. black windshield cowl broke when removed. Also, will not fit 2002 if you have the 3/4 in. plenum installed. Not for the average owner.

      GREAT handling upgrade!

Install took about 2 hours (just because I spent way to much time planning on where to drill). Drilling can be a little bit scary and difficult if you dont have the right type of drill, but just take a deep breath and go for it everything turned out perfect! Handling increased DRAMATICALLY! I can really feel it going around turns and through roundabouts, PLUS it makes your engine bay look more aggressive, a MUST have for anyone that likes to go a little fast in their pony.
