Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here with the Shock and Strut kit from ST Suspension for a wide range of Mustangs from 1986 to 2014. The ST Suspension Sport Shock and Strut Kit is a good option for the Mustang owners that are looking for the basic, budget friendly shock and strut setup with no frills or additional capabilities. So, just looking at these on the table here, the kit is made up of the standard twin-tube gas hydraulic shocks and struts, and they're going to work for both coupe and convertible models. The nice thing about having this type of design is the performance that these have, but another big player in the performance and ride quality here is going to be the valve tuning. These aren't what I'd call aggressive or anything, but they're designed to reduce shock and travel, and still maintain a comfortable ride quality. So there are different types of shocks and struts, and like I said, this kit is more of the common or standard setup, so it's going to be a good bit more affordable than the other options that are out there. This kit costs below $400 for both rear shocks and front struts, while if you want to go adjustable, you're looking at spending double for a full kit. But then you also have the pro dampener kit that's in between the STs and adjustable, but closer to the STs in price, just to lay everything out for you. Now, just to be clear, keep in mind that these aren't going to change ride height. That's still going to be left to your lowering springs and coil [inaudible 00:01:23] set outs, but the shocks and struts are going to control the bouncing and up and down movement of the car, and provide structural support for the suspension as well. What this means in driving language is things like ride comfort, handling, braking, and steering. Like most suspensions components, these are going to work best with other suspension upgrades, like lowering springs and sway bars, but even if you don't already have those things, and you're not wanting to go with an adjustable set up, I'd say that these are still where you're going to be looking for replacements if you want a full kit of simple shocks and struts. So, as far as the install, it's not too difficult, but it is easier if you have a lift. If you don't, you can still use a jack and stands, and all you really need is a handful of different sockets and wrenches, maybe an Allen key, and of course a spring compressor so you can keep everything safe. You're probably looking at about two to three hours to get the job done, and I'm going to call this a solid one out of three wrenches on the scale here. And as always, remember that an alignment after the install is needed. Wrapping things up, the ST Suspensions Sport Shock and Strut Kit is going to include twin-tube gas hydraulic components, and it's going to be the most affordable kit across all generations. It's the no-frills choice for replacing or upgrading shocks and struts, and you can check them out more online. I'm Stephanie and for all things Mustang, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improves Handling Performance. Give your old, worn out Mustang suspension a much needed overhaul with the ST Suspensions Sport Shock and Strut Kit. Designed to improve handling while reducing body roll and nose dive, these performance shocks and struts are direct fit replacements for your factory units and are ideal for use with lowering springs and performance sway bars.

Quality Construction. ST Suspensions Sport Series Shocks and Struts feature a sleek black twin-tube design complete with advanced valve tuning. This will help reduce shock travel, providing you with optimum performance all while maintaining great ride quality. Not only that, but your Pony will achieve sharper turn-in response with a more consistent contact patch on the road.

Application. This ST Suspensions Sport Shock and Strut Kit is specifically designed to fit the 1986 to 2004 Ford Mustangs, including the LX 5.0, V6, GT, Bullitt, Mach 1 and 1994-1998 SVT Cobra models. Does not fit the 1999 to 2004 SVT Cobra models with Independent Rear Suspension (IRS). Sold as a set of four.

Hello i have a 97 gt and the ride is pretty bumby right now. Will these help smooth out the ride?

JeremyL

  • The ST Suspension Sport Shock & Strut Kit for the 86-04 GT, V6, Mach 1; 94-98 Cobra will absolutely provide a smoother, better ride quality. If you are lowered, and have worn out shocks/struts or even stock height and the shocks and struts need to be replaced, you will immediately feel the difference with this kit.

Can these be used with coil overs?

jonathanl

  • Unfortunately, coil over kits utilize a completely different shock and strut system which would be required over factory style shocks and struts.

Does this kit include mounting hardware?

VinB

  • No, this strut and shock kit does not come with any mounting hardware, the original factory hardware would have to be re-used.

Will I need to purchase caster camber plates if I purchase these shocks and struts and also some lowering springs?

Crashin

  • The installation of the ST Suspension Sport Shock & Strut Kit will not require caster/camber plates or lowering springs, however, they can be installed. If you are planning to install lowering springs, we would would highly recommend installing caster/camber plate if the drop in ride height is 1.5" or greater.

I need a set of shocks and struts for my 85 GT, I know the year states 86-04 but will these work on my car. I don't see many options for pre-87 year cars.

94GTSTANG

  • Hi, This ST Suspension Sport Shock & Strut Kit is specifically built to be used on 86-04 Mustangs because of the weight and damping requirements I suggest the Eibach Pro-Damper Shock & Struts Item# 47800 that kit is designed for 79-04 V8 Mustangs. Here is the link http://www.americanmuscle.com/eibach-shocks-7904v8.html

  • The ST Suspension Sport Shock & Strut Kit (86-04 GT, V6, Mach 1; 94-98 Cobra) will be a great fit and will not compromise the handling at all. This kit will only help improve the handling.

Good shocks and struts with spring replacement

I purchased these shocks and struts for 98 GT. I've used SR Performance products in the past and have always been pleased with the quality, fit, and finish. I put these in with a set of SR Performance shocks and struts, SR Performance upper and lower rear control arms and Eibach Sportlines. It really made a big difference. I used a lift and some stands to remove the old springs. It made the job go smoother

    New shocks new ride

My old shocks were worn way past function so i installed these ST shocks n struts, although these feel really nice and provide an improvement in handling and absorbing bunos in the road, id recommend going with a higher-end shock i just didnt have the extra 300 bones to go adjustable, which would have been nice to have the ability to change the shock rebound.

    Great Ride and Price

I purchased this kit as I lowered my Mustang and wanted a shock and strut assembly that is designed for a shorter travel. I am very happy with them and the price is hard to beat.
