If you’re still scratching your head about the lack of an interior trunk release button on your S197 Mustang, you’re certainly not alone, well, thanks to this very budget friendly center console trunk release kit for your 05-09 Mustang, that issue is a thing of the past. We all know what a pain it is not to have an interior trunk release button, especially if you’ve lost your key fob, or if you have an aftermarket alarm that doesn’t include a trunk release button, this product is definitely for you. On the other hand, if you do have a functioning key fob, it’s hard to beat the convenience of an interior mounted trunk release button. This kit does include everything you need to install the trunk release button into your center console without the need for any drilling or wire cutting. The kit does include this OEM Ford access panel, which has already been predrilled for you and includes this push button style switch. The kit does also include a wire harness, connectors, and all the quick splice connectors needed for the install, making it an extremely painless job that should only take you about 30 minutes. You will need to run the wires to the passenger side kick panel, and then connect the cables to the two trunk release wires but everything else is a complete piece of cake. So if you don’t have a trunk release button on your key fob and you’re tired of getting out of the car to open the trunk, or on the other hand if you’re not a big fan of those glovebox mounted kits, then be sure to check out this very affordable, center console mounted trunk release kit, available right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Adds Extra Convenience. For some unexplained reason Ford did not install interior remote trunk release switches on the 2005 to 2009 S197 model Mustangs, but now you can add a Mustang Trunk Release Kit yourself for extra convenience.

OEM Fit and Finish. Designed to install easily by tapping into the existing stock wiring harness, this Trunk Release Kit seamlessly integrates into the cars center console for a clean, factory style appearance. That means there is no drilling or wire cutting required for installation.

Kit Includes. The Center Console Mounted Trunk Release Kit includes an OEM Ford access panel with pre-drilled hole and switch, high quality wiring harness with connectors, all the necessary wire taps and mounting hardware, and a detailed 4 page installation manual.

Application. This Center Console Trunk Release Kit is specifically designed for use on all 2005 to 2009 Ford Mustangs, including the V6, GT, Bullitt, and Shelby models.

    • Correct, the Center Console Mounted Trunk Release Kit is designed specifically for 2005-2009 Mustangs and would not work on a 1999-2004 Mustang.

Same as glove compartment wire? I've tried the trunk release buttons that mount in the glove box and have found that i have a wiring issue and neither have worked. does this splice into the same wire (under the passenger kick plate) or somewhere else?

    jonnyb8891

    • It does splice into wiring harness inside passenger kick panel. What my bud and I had to do was attach a temporary wire to the wire on switch. We then ran the wire back through trunk and temporarily attached it to the trunk wire. This told us that it did indeed work and which wire to splice to inside kick panel. We then unattached the temporary wire and found the correct wire inside kick panel. Kind of confusing as there was more than one wire with the color code needed. Hope this helps. Dave

      Amazing Convenience

This is an outstanding product! I have an aftermarket alarm system that came with the car when I got it that does not have a trunk release button on the key fob. This is really a bummer because I have to get out of the car and use the key anytime I want the trunk opened. This kit was extremely easy to install (about 40 minutes) and works perfectly. It is mounted in a place that makes it impossible to accidently push. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheap and convenient way to open their trunk!

      Terrific Value

Installed with my dad. Instructions were clear and simple, although installation is about 45 minutes. If we installed again we could do it in 20 minutes. My dad had crimpers which made the job easier. Great product!

      hey ford you forgot something

well made and easy to install. watch out on the wire call outs they stated to hook into the green wire (power wire for the outlet) it is wrong its the black wire. then when you hook into the trunk release over in the passenger side wire bundle its a lot of hunting and guessing ( just look at the trunk release it only has 2 wires running to it ) but all in all it was a very simple mod and now i can't stop pushing it. i just love buttons

ease of installing even for a 70 year old

This is great can not under stand why Ford left it out. I have Emphysema, and Chronic obstructive pulmonar disease. (COPD) . And when i saw this center console trunk release kit i knew that i would have no problem installing. It took me a little longer, about 45 min. because of my breathing .Best part is the pre drilled access panel all the connectors, So that you don't have make up a panel and chase around for wire taps Went in easy and works great. I told my son and some buddies that have 2005 -09 about how great it works , no more going for keys to get into trunk .

      Fits and Works Great !

Too many times I was in the garage with the car and the keys/remote were in the house. After being annoyed with Ford for not installing a trunk release I bought this little device. It fits great and wasn't difficult to install. As usual when doing something for the first time it takes a while to figure out how to remove interior trim etc. but it all goes back together easily. The kit includes terminals that splice into the car's wiring and then the kit wires just plug into the terminals. It's really pretty slick. A bit of advice, when routing the wire behind the AC panel it helps to tape the wire to a rod of some sort and push it through to the other side. The wire isn't stiff enough to support itself and will go everywhere but where you want it to go. This unit looks and performs like it was installed by the factory but one note: You need to splice into a white and pink wire but some 2008 & 2007 cars (like my own) may have wires of a different color. The paperwork included with the kit explains how to get through that problem, but fortunately my wiring harness had the correct color coding and so I can't say how much more difficult it could have been.

      Amazing asset to your car

This product is a great addition to any Mustang. Makes opening the trunk 10x easier. Love the way it looks inside the console. Only took around 30 minutes to install, but the directions were very straight forward. Another great product from American Muscle.

      Factory Look - Easy Install

I had run into several times I was detailing the car in the garage without my keys on me and needed to get into the trunk. This is when it struck me how odd it was that an automatic trunk release was not included on Mustangs from 2005-2009. This product easily solves that problem and leaves little room for error by including the entire replacement panel so no drilling is required. Tapping the correct wires is as easy as following the provided instructions and concealing them was simple with the wire ties that were included. Overall, I highly recommend this upgrade for such a low price. It seems like something you can live without, but once you install it, you'll wonder even more why it wasn't there in the first place. As always, fast shipping and excellent service from American Muscle.

Should have been in the car to begin with

Very happy that it is there although this is a huge oversite by mustang, how do you forget a trunk release? But this does look good and works great. It was a bit of a pain because the wire splice would not cut through the wire very easily. I actually ended up pulling away some wiring and cut off the tips to the wires they send in the kit, wrapped the wires and covered in electrical tape. It is the only way i found to keep the wire from slipping and losing connection.

      Trunk Release

This little add on allows me to open my trunk without the wireless remote with ease. The instalation was a snap and everything fit perfectly. Great instructions. I have a covertable so when the top is down the only risk is having valuables locked in the trunk to where someone can access the truck by hitting this button. Locked my keys in the trunk one time, now I have the trunk release for my backup plan and then the top goes back up while away. It's a great addition.

One push and it pops open

I love it. Great location. Took about 45 minutes to install due to incorrect instructions. Wires were not the correct color and blew a fuse but, after tracking down correct wire, it was simple.

      Fix a rare Ford mistake!

One of the biggest gripes S197 Mustang owners have about their cars is the omission of an interior trunk release button. Lose or break your key fob, and you'll be relegated to opening your trunk with a key. Not very convenient. This kit will help you fix that omission, and the end result looks like Ford included it as original equipment. Basically, there is a well-hidden access panel for the e-brake in the center console. Looking at it, you would think it's molded into the console, but it's not. The kit replaces that panel with a new one which includes a release button. Installation is very easy. Remove the shift knob, pop off the boot, remove two screws from the rear of the center console, and pull out the center console as well as the trim piece for the passenger side of the center stack. Use the included wire tap to tie into the E-brake ground. Run the power wire through the center console and tuck in behind the carpet on the passenger side. Pop off the passenger side "MUSTANG" door sill panel, and remove enough electrical tape to locate the appropriate wire (white with a pink stripe in 05-07 models). Tap the power wire into the right wire, and you have a trunk release! It took me about 45 minutes to install myself, and I take my time. This is an excellent product, well made and easy to install. I highly recommend it!

      Fits great!!!

Installation was super simple. I replaced my radio in the past, so I was already familiar with taking the center console out. The whole installation took less than 10 minutes and was very simple with the instructions provided. I highly recommend this trunk release switch to anyone who is tired with the inconvenience of having to have your remote to open the trunk, it's a perfect fit.

      Trunk Release

Pretty easy to install. Directions are mostly accurate, you may have to search more than one wiring harness to find the correct wire. My Mustang Bullitt had the proper color wire in an adjacent cable bundle.

      First stang

This is my first mustang, and I can say I was disappointed that it did not have a trunk release. However, I do love how this new trunk release button looks: it's like a button on James bonds car. The installation was very simply stated on the instructions. All in all, I am completely excited to do more mods to my S197.
