    Street Performance. This Comp Cams Xtreme Energy cam is an excellent upgrade from stock for improved street performance. With increased responsiveness and a step up duration, a greater performance can be felt from a Xtreme Energy Camshaft.

    Noticeable Idle. Give your 5.0 Pony a nice noticeable idle that is louder than stock, but is not overbearing or obnoxious.

    Application. This Comp Cams XE274HR Camshaft is designed for use in Mass Air equipped 1986-1995 5.0L V8 Mustangs with modifications such as better flowing heads, Intake, Fuel System upgrades and steeper 3.55 to 3.73 rear gears for peak performance. Compatible with O.B.D.4.Technical Note. This cam requires a minimum of a 3.55 rear-end gear, automatic transmissions require at least a 2500 RPM stall converter.

    Any suggestions for base idle setpoint with this cam in a 5.0? I have a 4bank chip on the way.

    what is all included with this purchase? also, can i swap this with the stock cam with out upgrading any engine parts?

    • This will just be the camshaft with your order. This Comp Cams XE274HR Camshaft is designed for use in Mass Air equipped 1986-1995 5.0L V8 Mustangs with modifications such as better flowing heads, Intake, Fuel System upgrades, and a minimum of a 3.55 rear-end gear Automatic transmissions require at least a 2500 RPM stall converter.

    Will this camshaft work with stock heads with no head/valvetrain work? Also, will it work with stock pistons (valve piston clearance)?

    • Unfortunately this camshaft from Comp Cam will not be able to work with the stock valvetrain, Comp Cam recommends that you have the complete valvetrain upgraded. Also with any camshaft that has a over 0.500" of lift will need to be mocked up(test fit) to ensure piston to valve clearance.

    Can I use this for carbureted set up

    • Unfortunately, the Comp Cams Stage 4 Xtreme Energy XE274HR Camshaft will not work for a carburetored set up. This cam offers to much overlap which will decrease the vacuum. Vacuum is necessary for a carb.

      Cams

      Cams will go on with edelbrock heads and a 347 stroker kit with a 50 shot of now. Look forward to hearing them bald eagles and all that chompin.

      Installed last weekend

      Installed this last week. there was some very minor rust on one of the lobes but it was wiped off with gloves on my hand with ultra slick engine assembly lube. Cam works great and is running great in the new engine. Install was very easy because the block was already outside of the car.

      Very nice camshaft!

      Fantastic idle, not too lumpy or unstable. Sounds excellent. I have a 331 stroker motor with AFR 185cc heads, and 30lbl injectors. It will need a good tune to make it nice. Backing up is of course harder than normal, but not bad. Idle is stable, but it likes to be at 900-1,000 rpms. Take offs are good, not that much different from a stock motor/heads/camshaft. Listen to the fact that it needs at least 3.55 gears. I currently have the 3.08's (will change soon). It will take off with more power than you had, but it's not a huge difference HOWEVER, once you get above 3,000 rpms, that's when it wakes up like an adrenaline shot to the heart. Best use for the weekend warrior, perhaps a little too radical for a daily driver.

      Excellent. more power out of my 347 with a mild idle.

      Excellent. more power out of my 347 with a mild idle. 347 stroker trick flow twisted wedge heads. put this cam .good idle. not too lumpy.
