    Review & Install Video

The Method Works door insert covers in red are available for any 2005 to 2009 Mustang owner looking to add some luxury to their interior, while covering up a worn-out, possibly sagging door panel. Considering that these are real leather and they are pretty affordable as a replacement, they'll come in just about $150 a set. The installation is a bit involved, so I will be giving this two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. If you're the owner of an early S197, you may have fallen victim to the saggy door panel trim after a couple of years. Since the adhesive on the back of the trim is pretty weak, after years of hot and cold temperature changes, they can tend to fall off and leave a nasty foam behind. The thing about this is they can't really be put back on very easily without new adhesive. Picking up a replacement takes a lot of the hassle away and gives it a cleaner, newer look. This will be a direct replacement for the factory floppy trim. They won't shrink and expand constantly with the weather like the old stuff, and since they're real Italian leather, they look a lot better too. If you've got the red leather interior from the factory, which is pretty rare, this'll be a perfect color-match that you can't find anywhere else. If not, they'll look good with most of the other interior packages as well, in my personal opinion. Now, even though they are real Italian leather, the price stays pretty affordable, just north of the $150 mark. Now, if you went to an upholstery shop, you'd probably be spending an arm and a leg for a replacement. So this'll be a perfect saver of time and patience, as well as money. Like I said in the very beginning, this one is going to be very involved and time-consuming. Now, if you're really not comfortable tackling the door panels on and off, and getting into the detail of trimming the leather to fit properly and taping off the area around it, setting the adhesive properly, and so on and so forth, we would definitely recommend taking this to a shop to get done 100% correctly. Since it is such a tedious job, I'll be giving this a strong two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. It'll take about three hours or so for the install. If you're the owner of an early S197, I'm talking 2005 to 2009 Mustangs, you might want to check out the Method Works door insert covers in red, which are available right here at americanmuscle.com.

        What type glue is used

        • The Alterum Door Insert Covers does not include any glue or adhesive. We suggest using some sort of spray fabric glue for proper adhesion. Though, we do recommend taking this to a shop for proper installation.

My 2006 has all the fabric backing removed and just has the plastic showing. Will padding need to be added or can these be glued up directly to the plastic?

        • The Alterum Door Insert Covers are designed to be installed directly to the plastic. Further install details can be seen at the link below: https://lib.americanmuscle.com/files/102217-cust.pdf

Do you need to take to door panels off? Or can this be done by just peeling off the old inserts and replacing them.

        • No, alot of Mustangs do have peeling problems by nature so you can just peel it off. Make sure you have something thin to tuck in the edges.

Does this come in any other colors? Can I request a color if possible?

        • At this time, we currently only offer the door insert covers in black or red.

I just got these in the mail. You guys recommend taking to an upholstery shop so I will get some quotes. But if I wanted to do it myself, what glue is recommended? I have a 3M spray from Home Depot labeled "90 Hi Strength" would this work

        • To install the Alterum Door Insert Covers we would recommend 3M Foam and Fabric adhesive, or a similar upholstery adhesive that can bond to both the insert, and the door panel.

            Great product

Great product. The hardest part of the install was ticking the material into the door with a screwdriver but overall, I’d recommend the product.

            Great value

I bought these to replace my son's sagging door panels on his 2006 special edition mustang. They are way better than the original material! Being real leather and oversized to make it easy for trimming, they fit so much better once installed. The material is easy to work with and fits like a glove. I would definitely buy this product again.

            Nice finished appearance

This project took a little more time than I anticipated. In order to get satisfactory results you must take your time. The most difficult part is removing the originally padding behind the factory vinyl trim. After peeling the old stuff off, I used a small grinding wheel to get the old glue off. I also used a small plastic putty knife to tuck the edges along the perimeter while using a razor. Finally, i used 1/4 vinyl welt to trim out the edges for a more finished appearance.

This takes about a day if you have other priorities. The prep work takes a lot of time having to remove the door panels remove old glue, tape, then spray new glue. I used Gorilla glue spray adhesive and it worked great. You just have to work fast once you start spraying. I gave it 4 stars mostly because I wish it was trimmed a little better to save my door from the so so cutting job I had to do to trim the material after instal. Overall, if you put in the work, you'll be happy with the results.

            Just what these doors needed

These panels are fantastic!! A very good quality leather, that fixed the terrible factory originals, which had peeled off the backing material. I had tried re-gluing the originals, and they held for about 1 year, but looked terrible. I was a little concerned at first, because gluing down the leather is such a permanent change, but my doors needed it. I followed the directions and watched the video for replacing them. I took quite a bit longer than most people would, especially with cleaning off the old glue, but I wanted them to be perfect. My car is a factory-ordered 2007 GT/CS with less than 12,000 miles and I try to keep it as nice as I can. When the original panels failed, this was the best fix I could find, and the results did not disappoint me at all. I highly recommend them if your panels need replacing.

            Leather door insert replacement cover

Like the product. Install time is a little longer than expected. This was my first ever attempt at doing this. Word of advice to others looking at this. Buy a wire wheel and clean the panel off really good. I thought I had it fairly clean but and residual glue or fabric left will show through. Product is good my install and prep needed to be better. Love the look though.

Review from Alterum Door Insert Covers - Black (05-09 All)

Great replacement - but requires some meticulation

I replaced the S197 original fail (faux leather) door inserts using these. The Inserts that came from American Muscle were beautiful black Italian leather, and after install, they look amazing. The down sides to them are that they are not an easy install. I am mechanically inclined (have rebuilt engines, replaced exhausts, done brake, suspension, and drive train work) so I though -> this will be a breeze... just place them over the doorpanel, do a little trimming, apply some adhesive, and stick them in. It is a lot more meticulous than that. Firstly -> even trying to get the fit before applying glue required a couple of meticulous cuts with a razor (or sharp scissors) to get it to lay appropriately. And then after that, trimming enough (but not too much) around the outside(s) so that you can push the edges into the groove with a screwdriver is not as straight forward as you would have hoped. Leave too much, and parts stick out of the groove, remove too much and you have spots where it won't seem to hold as well. I even compared it to the originals that came off, and tried using those as a guide, and it is not any more straightforward. They are great, but set aside some concentration time, and be ready to be meticulous. although you could try to get through it fast, I would set aside a whole day (I actually took a whole day for each side), in order to get the old adhesive/padding off, tape, grind, fit, etc...

First off they need to send adhesive with the panels , there was to much material to trim in a lot of areas and not enough in some areas so they didn’t cover all the way.the drivers door did pretty good but my passenger door got a lot of wrinkles in it I would let professionals do it if it’s your first time like me , it took me all day Saturday to install them
