    Review & Install Video

The Method Works door insert covers in red are available for any 2005 to 2009 Mustang owner looking to add some luxury to their interior, while covering up a worn-out, possibly sagging door panel. Considering that these are real leather and they are pretty affordable as a replacement, they'll come in just about $150 a set. The installation is a bit involved, so I will be giving this two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. If you're the owner of an early S197, you may have fallen victim to the saggy door panel trim after a couple of years. Since the adhesive on the back of the trim is pretty weak, after years of hot and cold temperature changes, they can tend to fall off and leave a nasty foam behind. The thing about this is they can't really be put back on very easily without new adhesive. Picking up a replacement takes a lot of the hassle away and gives it a cleaner, newer look. This will be a direct replacement for the factory floppy trim. They won't shrink and expand constantly with the weather like the old stuff, and since they're real Italian leather, they look a lot better too. If you've got the red leather interior from the factory, which is pretty rare, this'll be a perfect color-match that you can't find anywhere else. If not, they'll look good with most of the other interior packages as well, in my personal opinion. Now, even though they are real Italian leather, the price stays pretty affordable, just north of the $150 mark. Now, if you went to an upholstery shop, you'd probably be spending an arm and a leg for a replacement. So this'll be a perfect saver of time and patience, as well as money. Like I said in the very beginning, this one is going to be very involved and time-consuming. Now, if you're really not comfortable tackling the door panels on and off, and getting into the detail of trimming the leather to fit properly and taping off the area around it, setting the adhesive properly, and so on and so forth, we would definitely recommend taking this to a shop to get done 100% correctly. Since it is such a tedious job, I'll be giving this a strong two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. It'll take about three hours or so for the install. If you're the owner of an early S197, I'm talking 2005 to 2009 Mustangs, you might want to check out the Method Works door insert covers in red, which are available right here at americanmuscle.com.

    What type glue is used

    • The Alterum Door Insert Covers does not include any glue or adhesive. We suggest using some sort of spray fabric glue for proper adhesion. Though, we do recommend taking this to a shop for proper installation.

I just got these in the mail. You guys recommend taking to an upholstery shop so I will get some quotes. But if I wanted to do it myself, what glue is recommended? I have a 3M spray from Home Depot labeled "90 Hi Strength" would this work

    • To install the Alterum Door Insert Covers we would recommend 3M Foam and Fabric adhesive, or a similar upholstery adhesive that can bond to both the insert, and the door panel.

I was wondering if it was possible to purchase only the driver side insert? I purchased the pair a few years ago, but I need to replace the drivers side again.

    • Unfortunately these inserts are only available as a pair.

Does this come in any other colors? Can I request a color if possible?

    • At this time, we currently only offer the door insert covers in black or red.

It seems like I have seen this product in a hard plastic but I cannot find it now> Do they make?

    • Unfortunately, Alterum only offers the Door Insert Covers in the Italian Leather finish. This is currently not offered in a plastic construction at this time.

      Research better

Bought these and the red carbon fiber dash kit. Colors do not match. You can go to a local shop and buy the material thru them with a closer match to the dash kit Put the ones I purchased on a shelf and ordered from the the shop $150 installed.

      Door woes

First off they need to send adhesive with the panels , there was to much material to trim in a lot of areas and not enough in some areas so they didn’t cover all the way.the drivers door did pretty good but my passenger door got a lot of wrinkles in it I would let professionals do it if it’s your first time like me , it took me all day Saturday to install them

      Great quality leather

Very nice leather, good fit. I would encourage anyone to bring it to an upolstry shop to get it done professionally. The first one I installed I scuffed up the leather bad on the edges when tucking it in and cutting excess. The second install went much better, turned out better than the first but still isn't perfect. All together though the red looks great. Took me two afternoons bc the first install took longer than I planned

      Awesome

After the stock door insert covers started to peel and come off the door. I had a professional install these red insert covers along with then modern Billet Satin Window Switch Plates w/ Mustang Lettering has made the interior look amazing! A must buy if needed but definitely get with the switch plates w/Mustang lettering.

      Door insert covers

Material looked good. Quality is okay. Did not fit. For the price, you would think there would be a bit of excess material that would need to cut off. Stretching the material over the concave door panel would cause the same problem, loose/sagging door panels.

      Red leather door panel inserts

Had it installed by an upholsterer for $100. Looks great. Doesn't exactly match the color of the red leather interior, probably due to wear and age of seats.

05 GT Intrior Alterum Door Inserts Covers

I really like everything I have purchased from A/M I’m a big fan of this company. I usually don’t do reviews but I like A/M products and don’t think they should take the rap for Ford’s poor design choice or this companies attempt to provide a suitable replacement cover. You can tell the difference when they’re installed. They don’t match your interior. Drove me nuts. A/M is trying to provide cost effective alternative products to us motor heads. Sadly the Redfire interior door panel replacement covers don’t makeup for Ford’s poor original design and they do not look like the original material, (no perforations). The quality of these replacement covers is good but if you really want it to match your interior and want to spend about the same amount of money go to your local auto upholstery shop and have them install original material, then have them put a rolled edge around it to cover up the gap. This looks so much better than these covers and Ford’s poor original design. Hint: If the auto upholstery shop is trying to charge you a lot more than what these cost go to another shop. Don’t let them talk down to you! I ran into that at more than a few places. (Some upholstery shops think to much of themselves and that they are better than what they actually are.) I’ll try to post pictures if I can.

The fit was great needed minor trimming and install was easy enough, the real issue came with finding the proper glue to use, but any generic autocrat or hardware store will have them.

      Non Duplicate material

Unfortunatly the material in this kit is not an exact duplicate of the material used by Ford. The OEM Vinyl material has perforated little diamond shapes. The material in this kit is a grainy leather material without the foam backing. I had a local trim shop inform me that leather is not a good material for the weather in Indiana especially for a convertible. I sent a sample of the OEM material to American Muscle so they can see what the OEM replacement should look like. I ended up going with similiar material available from the trim shop.

      Leather covers

The material is real good. I don't know about the fit yet as they haven't been installed yet. On a call to you we were informed that the best results for install would be between 60 and 70 degrees but since we won't get those temps back till late March or April, we'll wait till then. Since these are do-it-yourself items I think they would sell just as well at $20.00 less giving room to buy the 3M glue.

      Easy to Install

These look harder to install but in reality they are fairly easy. I took my time and started from the bottom and work my way up. After the glue dried I trimmed around the edges and was done.
