Superior Quality. Manufactured in the USA, these Ford Racing Mustang ring and pinion gears feature a super strong forged construction, CNC cut & lapped gear teeth, and are completed in a black oxide finish to resist corrosion.

Recommended Upgrade. Changing the rear axle gear ratio will throw off the calibration of your Mustangs speedometer, but a Ford Racing Speedometer Recalibration Tool is an inexpensive way to fix this issue.

Application. This Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gear set will fit all 1994 to 2004 Cobra Mustangs. A master bearing kit is recommended by most installers, especially on high mileage vehicles, see drop down option above.

Technical Note. Installation costs will vary, but a good rule of thumb is between $250 and $300. Be sure to work with a reliable shop that you trust for installations. You can also save money on your installation labor by having your Trac-Lok rebuilt at the same time as your gears are installed, see drop down option above.

    Replacement Gears

    I needed to change the gears in my '98 Cobra daily driver since one of the carrier bearings went bad and chipped the gears. These FRPP gears went in without a hassle. I just used the original shims for the carrier, a .027" pinion shim (pinion was marked with -3), and the backlash and contact patterns were perfect! Sealed it all up and got back on the road with a nice, quiet differential. This is a good DIY'er project though you may need to buy or rent some specialty tools for checking clearances/tolerances. The installation instructions on the AM site are a good reference to read through beforehand to decide if the project is one you can do, and for stepping you through the install if you do it yourself. I also changed all the bearings/races and seals, and rebuilt the traction-loc while I had the rear axle all apart. This should last as long as I own the car and if I ever decide to change gear ratios I'll know to go with FRPP gears again.
