Msd coil pack capable? I was wondering if this set works with the 96 GT MSD coil pack? The blue wires would look awesome with the red coil pack.

    Joseph156

    • Yes they will. The MSD coil packs are for any 96-98 4.6L. I'm running these wires with the MSD coils and yes. They do look awesome.

      Product is a GREAT upgrade

My 1997 Cobra had a misfire and i couldn't figure out why for a while, i went and bought these wires from AM and the problem is gone! Seems to idle smoother, and start better from a cold start. I would highly recommend this product as an upgrade over your stock wires.

      nice looking wires

I put these on my 1996 cobra. The bluw wires look really good under the hood, and the "Ford Racing" logo is a nice touch, as far as looks go. Each wire is also numbered which greatly helps installation. As fas as installation goes, this is actually pretty easy. The Driver's side cylinder bank is easily accesible, The passenger side requires the removal of the rubber air tube coming formt he air filter (if your car is stock). It was possible to change all the spark plugs without removing the strut brace. I'm not sure which would take longer, reaching around the brace or just removing it and reinstalling it afterward, but neither seems all the hard. The most challenging part of this install was reattaching the air tube, it is a tight fit, and since we did remove the air filter housing it took a little muscle. As far as perfomance gains go I haven't noticed anything super, but the car seem to run "smoother". In the end this was mostly a "for looks" upgrade. Bottom line... Pros - easy install, nice look, Like the Ford logo and wire numbers, seems to have helped engine run more smoothly Cons - none really, only thing I found was that these wires have a bigger diameter than the stock ones and all but one of the retaining clips that came on the car (which are old and brittle) broke.

Ford Racing 9mm Spark Plug Wires

I had developed a miss on my 1997 Mustang Cobra at higher rpm range. The plug wires were the original wires and I had heard from previous owners that they would eventually go bad. I purchased the Ford Racing 9mm wires as I also drive the car at road race courses several times a year and wanted the best quality plug wires for the car. The installation of the plug wires and also Motorcraft spark plugs took about 2 hours. I took the cold air pipe off to make access easier to the passenger side. The installation of these wires was easy and the wires are marked with the cylinder numbers for easily matching to the correct plug location. If you purchase these wires, be sure to get wire looms for 9mm wires as the stock wire looms will not fit the larger 9mm wires. After the installation, I test drove the car and the miss was gone. The plugs and wires gave the car added power thru the whole rpm range up to 7200rpm.

Did not fit with screamin deamon coils

Do not buy if you plan on combining with screamin demon coils! They did not fit whatsever. In addition when I got the part, in the original ford performance packaging, it stated on the box that the part was for 2valve I have a 4v. I contacted support for american muscle sent a pic of the box ...they cant explain it. American Muscle dont reccomend a part that isnt compatible!

Buy These!!! Don't buy 8mm OEM!

I made a mistake and bought the OEM 8mm wires from a local parts store. What a mistake. They are mass produced junk that fit multiple cars, not just Mustangs and they arc'd once installed. I was getting fluctuating idle and backfiring. I questioned if I had made a mistake but I checked and I didn't. They were just junk. These Ford High Performance 9mm plug wires are just what I needed to pep up the cars original 20 year old wires. Response time is better and it just feels more immediate when I step on the gas. Took no time to put them in if you take off the strut tower brace and cold air intake. Do 1 plug at a time and take pictures of the before wire routing and after to make sure you don't miss a step. Please go this route. It will save you time and money if you do it right the first time.

      Fixed A Miss Fire

I had a miss fire, I had a hard time finding a set of wires for my 96 Cobra, AM actually had a better price than Advance or Auto Zone, and they didn't have them in stock so I would of had to order them anyways. I like the blue look and the ford racing logo. Mine came in a Genuine Ford Racing Box. Drivers side was easy to install. Passenger side was tricky. next time I will remove the brace. Had a hard time re-installing the air filter housing and hose with the strut brace installed, took some elbow grease. All in All, I am happy, Thanks AM.

      Perfect

These 9mm wires worked great. They were very clean, with no defects in them. You can tell right away that they're a quality part. Some other people have said they were a bit long, but there's plenty of space under the plastic cover on the spark plug end to make them a perfect fit. Install was easy, took about an hour with new plugs. Be sure to have clean hands when you put on the new wires and you'll save 20 minutes cleaning them lol.

Great spark plug wires. Only issue is that they are to long by about an inch or two.

      Not Worth It

I was looking for a good set of wires and I bought these. Everything is great about them except for the terminals that hook up to the coils. The plastic is not strong enough to keep the terminal plugged in the coil and just pops out and does not sit well. Caused me all sorts of misfires the car was running terrible. If I pay top dollar I expect top quality. I regret getting them. Ended up having to zip tie them to the coils.

Needs cleaned up but posted a pic for ya.. I got the screaming demon coils, 9mm spark plug wires, and NGK performance plugs.. love em and thank you for the great deal! My total here was 280 and to get just the plugs and wires anywhere else would've been that price

      Cured An On Throttle Misfire

Bought these to replace the OEM wires that were original to the car, and they made a great difference. There was originally a stutter when you punched it in all gears, and that has gone away completely. This also gave a much smoother idle over the original equipment, and they're a great price for something that's a Ford product. No issues with fitment on the factory coils, but the wire holders were a little tedious to force back together. That's a given though, seeing as these are thicker than factory. Definitely something to do to an older/higher mileage car.

Does what they are supposed to....

Ford Racing wire (9mm wire wound) are produced in the USA (Paragould, Arkansas to be exact) but, the wire harness (cut to length, boots installed, etc...) is assembled in Mexico. During the wire manufacture, my set was scratched and has a white line in the blue silicone jacket on two of the wires that runs the full length. They are cut a little longer than factory so the routing takes a little extra time and the factory wire separators don't work since these are a slightly larger diameter. The boots did fit well and these spark plug wires cured the miss that was occurring due to the worn out factory set. They will get the job done.

      Big performance difference

I had a miss that new plugs did not solve. These new wires along with new MSD coil pack got rid of the miss and provide renewed power so I can now smoke the tires after the clutch is fully engaged. It is a little more work to install since they are 9mm and the stock wires are 8mm however it is well worth the extra effort. Also, note the wires are numbered something I found out after installation. Enjoy, they are worth the money.
