- How to Install Ford Performance Hood Strut Kit w/ Ford Performance Logo on your Mustang
The Ford Performance hood strut kit with the logo is available for any '05 to '14 Mustang owner who might be looking to get rid of the ugly and in the way factory hood prop, and replace it with something more modern, convenient, and out of the way. This one shows some Ford Performance pride with their logo engraved in silver over a black strut, and the price is generously placed at about $100 per set, which you see here with me. The installation is a direct bolt-on. So expect one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, which I'll walk you through later on in the video. If you're the type of Mustang owner taking your pony to a lot of car shows, and you're trying to show off some underhood dress-up pieces in your engine bay, then the factory hood prop can be an ugly way to display them. These are a great alternative, because they stay out of the way in the bottom corners of the hood, and they even blend in with the black powder coating. They reliably keep the hood open, and they lock into place so you don't have to worry about the weight of the hood bringing them down. Aside from the looks, these are just all-around more convenient. Leaning over the front end to do even just routine maintenance can be tough with the hood prop in the way. These make it easier to do the work without having to lean over the fenders awkwardly when the front is where you want to be. This set has two powerful gas struts, which are made from a lightweight steel and aluminum with a black powder-coated finish all around, and the Ford oval logo and the Ford Performance logo laser-engraved on top in silver. The black not only gives it a sleek look to blend in, but it also adds a layer of corrosion and rust resistance, which is always a bonus. For just about $100, you can pick this up for yourself, which again is the most affordable option in my opinion. It makes things a lot easier. There are other options varying with price tags, depending on finish, such as modern billets, chrome, carbon fiber, and one with Mustang lettering. But they also have the same function and it all is a matter of preference. The installation only takes about 30 minutes to an hour with simple hand tools, like a flathead screwdriver, a ratchet, 10-millimeter and 13-millimeter sockets, and some extensions.I'd absolutely give this one, one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, since it doesn't require any drilling or permanent modifications. The first thing you want to do is install one of the lower brackets using the factory fender bolt. With the hood supported by the factory prop, remove the top bolt on the hood hinge and loosen the rear one just enough to slide the larger bracket labeled "P" between the hood hinge and the bolt. Then, tighten these bolts back up to secure the bracket. Remove the small retaining clips from the strut balls, and then pop the strut balls over the strut mounts in the brackets. Replace the retaining clips to keep the balls locked into place. Then, once you repeat this for the opposite side with the bracket labeled "D" for "Driver," then you're good to go. So if you're the owner of an '05 to '09 Mustang, you might want to check out the Ford Performance hood strut kit with the Ford Performance logo, which is available right here, of course, at americanmuscle.com.

Installed per instructions. When closing hood rear, towards windshield, it raises up about 1/4” higher than fender. Didn’t damage anything but definitely a poor fit. Will be returning. 2012 GT convertible.Helpful (0)

Easy Use Engine Compartment
I like this because it keeps the hood 1 easier to use, but I can definitely see how this would be superior at a car show. I don't go to car shows though(yet?), so it just helps me while working in the engine compartment. The install is easy enough although it seems to squish the windshield washer fluid tube and some plastic parts of the car are in the way, so you need to move/cut those. One thing I noticed is that the hood opens slightly less than without the struts.Helpful (1)

In the past, some hood strut kits seemed to pull the driver's side lower bracket away from the fender at the front edge of the bracket. Do these Ford struts not cause that? Do they pivot more freely than other brand struts? Do they all pivot on the same size ball? Are they all pretty much the same length? Is it possible that the Ford struts might cure a problem with a Brand X kit? Thanks. Alan P
When installing the Ford Performance Hood Strut Kit, you may need to realign the hood to ensure there is a proper fit. In order to install, the bolts need to be taken off the hinges, which can cause the hood to move away from the fender. Make sure you check clearance before completely closing the hood. This is common for most aftermarket hood struts because they install with the hinges. Depending on where they mount, the Ford Performance Hood Struts will be the same size and function the same way other aftermarket hood struts do.
Will this work with a cervini fiberglass hood? Much lighter than a factory hood.
This kit will have a 90lb weight rating and will work with any hoods that are under or equivalent to this weight.
Will this be strong enough to hold up an aftermarket hood? I Have a Cervinis stalker II hood which is heavier than the stock hood by quite a bit.
It is not typically recommended to run the Ford Performance Hood Strut Kit with aftermarket hoods. This kit will have a 90lb weight rating, so can work with any hoods that are under this, however the increased weight will reduce longevity.
The details say " The gas struts have the ability to hold up to ninety pounds and therefore, Ford Performance Hood Strut Kit is strong enough to support both aftermarket hoods and stock hoods. " But someone answered it isn't typically recomended for aftermarket hoods. Will there be an issue using the SpeedForm Split Inlet Ram Air Hood with these struts?
So long as this was within 90 lbs these should be sufficient to hold this hood.
Does the price reflect as a set meaning both sides or is it per side.
This hood strut kit would include both sides.
