    Review & Install Video

The Ford Performance hood strut kit with the logo is available for any '05 to '14 Mustang owner who might be looking to get rid of the ugly and in the way factory hood prop, and replace it with something more modern, convenient, and out of the way. This one shows some Ford Performance pride with their logo engraved in silver over a black strut, and the price is generously placed at about $100 per set, which you see here with me. The installation is a direct bolt-on. So expect one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, which I'll walk you through later on in the video. If you're the type of Mustang owner taking your pony to a lot of car shows, and you're trying to show off some underhood dress-up pieces in your engine bay, then the factory hood prop can be an ugly way to display them. These are a great alternative, because they stay out of the way in the bottom corners of the hood, and they even blend in with the black powder coating. They reliably keep the hood open, and they lock into place so you don't have to worry about the weight of the hood bringing them down. Aside from the looks, these are just all-around more convenient. Leaning over the front end to do even just routine maintenance can be tough with the hood prop in the way. These make it easier to do the work without having to lean over the fenders awkwardly when the front is where you want to be. This set has two powerful gas struts, which are made from a lightweight steel and aluminum with a black powder-coated finish all around, and the Ford oval logo and the Ford Performance logo laser-engraved on top in silver. The black not only gives it a sleek look to blend in, but it also adds a layer of corrosion and rust resistance, which is always a bonus. For just about $100, you can pick this up for yourself, which again is the most affordable option in my opinion. It makes things a lot easier. There are other options varying with price tags, depending on finish, such as modern billets, chrome, carbon fiber, and one with Mustang lettering. But they also have the same function and it all is a matter of preference. The installation only takes about 30 minutes to an hour with simple hand tools, like a flathead screwdriver, a ratchet, 10-millimeter and 13-millimeter sockets, and some extensions.I'd absolutely give this one, one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, since it doesn't require any drilling or permanent modifications. The first thing you want to do is install one of the lower brackets using the factory fender bolt. With the hood supported by the factory prop, remove the top bolt on the hood hinge and loosen the rear one just enough to slide the larger bracket labeled "P" between the hood hinge and the bolt. Then, tighten these bolts back up to secure the bracket. Remove the small retaining clips from the strut balls, and then pop the strut balls over the strut mounts in the brackets. Replace the retaining clips to keep the balls locked into place. Then, once you repeat this for the opposite side with the bracket labeled "D" for "Driver," then you're good to go. So if you're the owner of an '05 to '09 Mustang, you might want to check out the Ford Performance hood strut kit with the Ford Performance logo, which is available right here, of course, at americanmuscle.com.

Sleek, Clean Look. Show off the engine of your Ford Mustang in style with the Ford Performance Strut Kit with Ford Performance logo. The logo is laser etched on the two gas struts. Ford designed this hood strut kit to have a sleek, clean look. You can lift your hood with ease as the two gas struts take over. You no longer need to worry about injuring yourself when the hood of your car is open.

Lightweight, Yet Strong. The components in this kit are made with lightweight steel and aluminum to ensure functionality and durability. They are coated with a heavy-duty black powder finish. The brackets are made from strong steel.

Specifications. The dimensions of this kit are 6.5" x 4.5" x 14.5" and it weighs 2.6 lbs. It has a rating of 90 lbs.

Basic Installation. You will love how easy it is to install this strut kit. The direct bolt-on installation does not require any drilling. You won't have to drill since the steel brackets have been engineered to bolt directly into the existing OEM hood mount holes.

Application. The Ford Performance Hood Strut Kit with Ford Performance Logo fits all 2005-2014 Ford Mustang models.

    • This kit will have a 90lb weight rating and will work with any hoods that are under or equivalent to this weight.

Will this be strong enough to hold up an aftermarket hood? I Have a Cervinis stalker II hood which is heavier than the stock hood by quite a bit.

    • It is not typically recommended to run the Ford Performance Hood Strut Kit with aftermarket hoods. This kit will have a 90lb weight rating, so can work with any hoods that are under this, however the increased weight will reduce longevity.

In the past, some hood strut kits seemed to pull the driver's side lower bracket away from the fender at the front edge of the bracket. Do these Ford struts not cause that? Do they pivot more freely than other brand struts? Do they all pivot on the same size ball? Are they all pretty much the same length? Is it possible that the Ford struts might cure a problem with a Brand X kit? Thanks. Alan P

    • When installing the Ford Performance Hood Strut Kit, you may need to realign the hood to ensure there is a proper fit. In order to install, the bolts need to be taken off the hinges, which can cause the hood to move away from the fender. Make sure you check clearance before completely closing the hood. This is common for most aftermarket hood struts because they install with the hinges. Depending on where they mount, the Ford Performance Hood Struts will be the same size and function the same way other aftermarket hood struts do.

Product works as advertised. Only complaint is that the Ford logo faces inside towards engine compartment instead of out towards eye view.

Install was easy but can’t leave the hood up doesn’t hold the weight of a cervini ramair hood it falls down after a few minutes the first time it happened it damaged my radiator cover because I had a ratchet sitting on it. Now need to buy new shocks and radiator cover. Junk!!

      Ford Performance - Not!

The Ford individual who engineered this product should be fired. To install the lower fitting, it required trimming of the plastic vent housing and countersinking of the hex head bolt from AC accumulator bracket. Still after installation. The upper bracket rubbed against the upper forward quarter panel. This also required modification. After everything that was said done, the hood sat lower, making it more difficult to conduct maintenance near the firewall. I ripped it out and now have wasted $91.00...what a disappointment!!!

      Hood Struts

They look great however the installation instructions were a little unclear as was the YouTube video. There is some trimming required in order to get the mount to fit. Also, the hood on the drivers side doesn’t close fully causing it to bow a bit. This is due part of the AC unit being mounted on the inner fender.

      Struts.

It didn’t fit my 2012 premium package. Had to unbolt something the holds part of the air intake on the driver side. Need the bigger struts.

      Looks good, does the job.

Easy install and looks great without the prop-rod when the hood is open. My only complaint is that the hood struts could be a bit stronger. They hold the hood up just fine once opened, but they will barely raise the hood once it's unlatched. Nice product.

Review from Ford Performance Hood Strut Kit w/ Ford Performance Logo (05-09 All)

      Terrible hood bowing

After installation, the back of struts press again the vent plastic cowling being neccesary to cut it in order to allow the brackets to slide beneath and also it is neccesary to cut half of AC accumulator bracket as well. Once the installation is completed, the hood opening is less than with the prop rod and when the hood is fully closed, there is a vertical opening between hood and side car fender of about 8 mm. These hood struts are to powerful (90 Lbs.) for the S197 causing the original hood bending. The design is very poor.

      Hood strut kit

Before I started installing the kit, I watched your video on you tube. I was a little confused the person on the video while installing the pistons, placed the rod on top, directions say rod goes on bottom. Other problem I encountered had to trim cowl, the ends of the piston didnt have enough room to move when closing the hood. I am pretty mechanically inclined, this was harder than the video shows, they are not a direct fit, you have to do some modifying to make the kit work. On the plus side they are on the car, and it was good experience dealing with American muscle.

      Decent quality of parts.

Shipping was fast and secure as always. Install took less then 10 minutes I'd say a newbie could do it under 15 with no problems. Debating on whether or not to remove them due to a pretty good sized bow in the hood now. On my 2015 ecoboost the redline struts created no bow or at least not one I saw. I feel like these should be a little more dialed in considering it has Ford stamped on it.

      Installation of Hood Strut kit

Product is good value but installation instructions could be better. Ford needs to provide better quality pictures for installation. I was surprised at the amount of trimming of plastic parts to make it fit my 2005 Mustang convertible.
