    Review & Install Video

Hey everyone I’m Justin with and are you giving your engine the props it deserves, not that kind of props, I mean are you still using that dated hood prop to show off the engine bay in your ride? If so you will definitely want to check out this MMD bolt on hood strut kit fitting all 2005 to 2014 Mustangs. MMD has quickly become the industry leader in unique aftermarket parts that help make your Mustang look a lot cooler, this kit is one of those items. This 100% bolt on kit requires no drilling or modification like some other kits and is available in your choice of either show stopping chrome finish or a factory black finish. Now besides dramatically cleaning up your engine bay, it also makes raising the hood a lot easier as well. The kit includes 2 gas powered struts, both upper and lower mounting brackets, and all the required hardware. Getting the kit installed should only take you about an hour thanks to the fact that both brackets utilize your factory bolt locations. It is worth mentioning that this kit will also work with aftermarket fiberglass cal induction hoods or even carbon fiber hoods as long as both of those options utilize the factory bolt locations. Chances are when you pop the hood of your ride it’s either to show off what you’ve done or to turn a wrench or two, you don’t want that hood prop in the way when you’re working on your motor and you don’t want some ugly piece of metal front and center when you are showing off that new blower. Do yourself and your engine bay a favor and check out this bolt on hood strut kit by MMD.

Prop Rod? Are you still using that old style factory prop rod that Ford installed in your S197 Mustang? Well then join the new millennium with a set of Modern Muscle Design Hood Struts from AmericanMuscle for clean modern looks and convenience.

Style And Strength. Designed to get rid of that old ugly prop rod, this set of two powerful yet sleek MMD gas struts not only makes opening your Pony's hood much easier, but also holds it securely in place. Made from lightweight steel and aluminum, they have a chrome and nickel plated finish to give your engine bay a much cleaner appearance.

No Drilling Required. The stamped steel brackets included in this MMD kit are designed to bolt into the existing mounting holes in the hood so there is no drilling required for installation. Struts can be installed on factory hoods as well as aftermarket hoods that use the factory bolt location. If your aftermarket hood is lighter than the factory hood, use caution when opening the hood due to the power of the strut.

Application. This Modern Muscle Design Hood Strut Kit is specifically designed for use on the 2005 to 2014 Ford Mustangs, including the V6, GT, Bullitt, BOSS, and Shelby GT500 models. The Kit includes two chrome gas powered struts, mounting brackets, and all the required mounting hardware.

    • I would personally recommend using the bottom bracket that comes with it as well as the top bracket that way the product works as designed. Not to mention you can get the whole kit for under a 100

Don’t buy, doesn’t hold hood up

I bought these for 2006 and 2007 Mustangs, neither hood stays up. Only lasted about 6 months. Not sure why they keep selling a defective product.

      overall happy

This product fit well, was an easy install. I live in an area where I store my vehicle for the winter and I opened the hood to slow charge my battery and the struts worked perfect.

Love them, super easy to install

I'm not a very mechanical guy but I found the Hood Strut's very easy to install. They work great and look great with some of my other chrome mod's. I find everything I have ordered and installed by American Muscle to perform very well, plus looks great on my 08' GT. Mike Ryan, Ont, Canada

      Instriction atroious

Starting with appearance mounts are chrome, Strut tube are painted, not chrome. The most viable part. My 2012 GT has a cable housing that comes up[ by the right hinge and goes up under the under hood sound deadening. Instruction does not address this. Has to be moved. Drivers side instruction say to remove u-nut and save it for later use.. Instruction never says where to use it other than use original hardware. Instruction says "Pop the ends of the strut over the ball mounts on brackets". You can't do this without first removing the retainer clips. I build custom classic cars. A novice my want help.

      Not worth the price.

I bought my first set. Struts didn't last 6 months but lasted past what AM warranty is on them. Bought a second pair. Put them on after they arrived and they wouldn't hold the hood up and i have fiberglass hood and its lighter then stock. Sent the second air back. Waiting on third set to see if they work. But not betting on them working ether. They need to seriously drop price and it be nice to be able to just buy struts as that is the only part that can fail.

      Hood Struts

The fit was perfect just took a couple of bolts to loosen and install. The alignment when closing the hood lined up perfectly.

      The best hood struts

These hood struts were very easy to install. The instructions were very clear and included photos. They work great. I'm surprised Ford doesn't use them instead of the prop rod. They have plenty of power and firmly open and hold the hood in the open position. The engine compartment looks much better and is more accessible. I recommend these for any Mustang owner.

      Chrome Hood Strut Kit

I purchase this strut Kit for my 2013 Mustang GT. After the first month of installing them, the hood starting coming down. I call American Muscle and explain my problem and they replaced them immediately. Again after one month of installing the replacement struts, the hood started to come down again. After the second time, I just install the factory hood support. I do not recommend the of the purchase of this kit.

Install was a breeze. Glad to be rid of the prop rod! Added a painted radiator cover to finish the look and get rid of the rub marks from the rod.
