      Justin: Hey, what's going on, guys? Justin with americanmuscle.com. And today, we're taking a closer look at and installing the K&N Series 57 FIPK Intake, available for your 2018 and newer EcoBoost Mustang.Now, you should be checking out the K&N for your EcoBoost if you're looking for a CARB-certified, no-tune-required option from an industry leader that still maintains the use of both the factory airbox and all of its related ducting.So, when talking features with the K&N, it is good to know what the FIPK system is all about, and that is K&N's entry-level option. It's a good budget-friendly alternative to someone who really wants that K&N name on their car but doesn't necessarily want to spend the extra 100 to 200 bucks to get into maybe the Series 63, Series 77, or Blackhawk system. Now, to help keep the cost down a little bit more, K&N has basically reduced some of the components to the tube itself and a drop-in filter, and that's pretty much it.Now, I like this design because it does still retain that factory airbox and all of its well-engineered cold air ducting, and that's gonna be solid if you're looking to really isolate the filter itself from the hot engine bay air. Hot engine bay air is going to kill your performance, so if you sit stationary a lot, those open element filters oftentimes will be heat-soaked pretty quickly.Now, on top of that, because this is still basic, you are still getting some small amount of power and longevity benefits out of K&N's signature filter, and you're still also maintaining that CARB certification along with a very low-key look under the hood.Now, on the topic of power here, guys, I would keep your expectations relatively realistic with this kit. I would say because it is so basic in nature, you're probably gonna be looking at single-digit horsepower and torque gains along with a little bit more throttle response as mentioned by some of our customers in the customer review section.Now, moving into construction, you are gonna receive K&N's rotomolded plastic intake tube here. This is gonna completely replace your somewhat restrictive stock piece. Filter itself, guys, that's what K&N is all about, right? It's the signature K&N cotton gauze filter. It is washable, it is reusable, thanks to the oil design.Now, K&N claims that you should inspect and clean the filter, re-oil it as well every 50,000 miles or so depending on your usage, but certainly not a bad thing to keep an eye on. But that will ultimately save you some money as opposed to just buying a new paper element factory filter every 10,000 miles or so. Finally, guys, the kit is backed by K&N's signature 10-year or million-mile warranty just in case you should run into any issues.But let's come back to price here because at the time of this video, guys, again, the K&N and the FIPK kit, gonna be the entry-level K&N offering hovering right around that low $300 area, actually gonna put this system in that mid-tier or mid-level category, above intakes in the category such as your bare-bones, kind of no-name options, but still far below price point-wise from other K&N options and even options from Airaid or Roush.Now, because this kit is so simple and because you're not removing and replacing that factory airbox or something else, install is definitely gonna be a little bit easier than your other more traditional cold air intakes. Figure a very soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, about an hour or so to complete from start to finish. But now, what do you say we head out to the shop and walk you through the install along with a detailed tool breakdown?Man: The tools you'll need for this project are a ratchet, an extension, a 7 and an 8-millimeter socket, a pair of pliers, and a 19-millimeter wrench. Hi, everyone. Today, we're installing the cold air intake on our EcoBoost Mustang. So, let's get started with the uninstall first.The first thing we're gonna do is disconnect our air sensor here by pushing in on the release tab and just pulling it out. Then we're gonna go ahead and disconnect this retaining push pin here just to get it out of the way. Now we're gonna go ahead and loosen up this clamp that holds the tube to the airbox using our 7-millimeter socket.Now that we've got that loosened up, we can go ahead and pull the air tube off of the box. Now we've got a clamp to remove down here and another one on the turbo. So, let's go ahead and get those off. Now we've got a couple of other things that we need to remove from the air tube down here, and then we'll disconnect the air tube from the turbo itself. So, let's go ahead and do that.Now this first clamp that we're going to open up is about halfway down the tube towards the turbo, right in front of the engine. So, we're gonna go ahead and use our pliers and squeeze this spring clamp and open it up. And then we can go ahead and pull the hose up and disconnect it. Now, right behind that is a PCV line. Let's see if I can get you a better view of it here. It's right here, right directly behind the one we just took off. And there's a gray clamp on this that holds it onto the tube itself. All you have to do is push that gray tab towards the back of the engine and lift up on the tube. And that'll disconnect the PCV line. Now we can disconnect the tube from the turbo.Now, you'll notice right down here on the turbo, there's actually two clamps down here. What we're gonna do is loosen up the one that's right on the turbo. You're gonna need a fairly long extension and your 7-millimeter socket and your ratchet., and just go ahead and loosen up that clamp. And once you've got it loose, we can go ahead and pull that coupler off. And then we can go ahead and remove the tube. Now we can go ahead and slide our tube out of the engine compartment. And now we'll remove the lid for our airbox. To do that, we're just gonna flip this lever at the top and on the side and then lift it up out of the way, and then remove the air filter.Before we actually install our new kit, there's a couple of things we need to take care of. First, we need to install a new PCV fitting onto the intake tube. And then we're going to install our couplers onto the intake tube as well, and then we can put it in. So, to install this new PCV fitting, you see the tube already comes with a brass fitting. Now, this PCV fitting is plastic, so when you put it in, you want to be very careful to make sure that you don't strip the threads as it's going in. So, very carefully insert it into the intake tube until it stops and you can't turn it anymore with your hand.Once you get it tightened down with your hand, go ahead and take your 19-millimeter wrench and just give it an extra turn just to make sure that it's tight and not gonna come out. Now, once it's in, we can go ahead and install our couplers. So, we've got a small coupler here. We're gonna slide that over the end of the tube. Put in our small clamp. Now, when you put this on, you might want to imagine that you're actually standing at the engine looking at it. And put these clamps on in a way that you can actually access it once it's installed. So, we'll go ahead and slip that over the top, and we'll tighten that down with our 8-millimeter socket.Now we'll do the same thing for the larger end. Slip that over. Actually, now we'll do the same thing for the larger end. We'll just put the clamp on first. Because this one does have a hump in the center of it, would make it a little difficult putting that clamp on. Now we'll go ahead and tighten that down with our 8-millimeter socket as well. Now we can go ahead and install this into the car.All right. Now we'll go ahead and put our clamp on the small coupler here. Now we'll go ahead and put our other small clamp on the small end of the coupler here. And then we can feed this in and reattach it to the turbo. Now we'll go ahead and feed that small end in. Slip it over the end of the turbo and just maneuver it in until it fully seats. Now, once you've got it in, we're not going to tighten up that clamp just yet because we still have to attach the other end.Now we can go ahead and put our new air filter into the airbox and attach our lid. Now, you might want to go ahead and just put the clamp on the coupler now and go ahead and insert the end of the tube into the airbox. Make sure that you put your locking tabs on the end into the slots, and then go ahead and lock your latches on the other end.Now, once we've got that in, now we can go ahead and tighten up this clamp here, tighten up the small one, and reattach our hoses. Now we'll go ahead and tighten up this clamp using our 8-millimeter socket. Reconnect our sensor and our retaining pin. Now we'll go ahead and tighten up the other end of the tube and reattach our hoses. Now we'll go ahead and make sure that our intake tube and coupler is fully seated under the turbo, and we'll go ahead and tighten that down with our 8-millimeter socket. Now we can go ahead and connect our hoses.Now, to connect our PCV line, we're just going to slide the end of the hose over the new fitting that we just installed and push it down until it snaps into place. Now we can go ahead and hook up our other hose that we disconnected using our pliers. We'll go ahead and open up that clamp, slide the hose down on top, and release the clamp. And there's your install.And that wraps up our review and install of the K&N Series 57 FIPK Cold Air Intake for the '18 to current Mustang EcoBoost. Thanks for watching.
