- How to install a Ford Leather Shift Boot on your 2005-2009 (GT, V6) Mustang
Hey, guys. Today, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Ford leather shift boot, and it's going to fit '05 to '09 GT and V6 Mustangs. It's not going to fit the GT 500. This is a full-leather shift boot that's black with black stitching. This is a great option for you if you're looking to replace an old or worn-out shift boot, or if you're just looking for a nice leather shift boot upgrade. It costs about $55, and it's very easy to install. You won't need any tools. I'll call it a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and I'll show you how to get it on your car now. All right, guys, so your factory shift boot is held in with this plastic trim around it, and it's literally only going to be a couple clips. So, we're going to go ahead, and we are actually going to pop this up first. I'm going to get my finger under one of the corners here and just pop up, and the whole shift boot will pop up. From there, I'm going to go ahead and unthread my stock shift knob, and it'll all come off as one piece. Okay, so your stock shift knob is just over the boot, so I'm going to go ahead, I'm going to pull down on one of the corners. You guys can see, there's a spot in the stock shift knob for your shift boot to sit in. We're just going to pull the shift boot off of that. All right, guys, so now we have the Ford replacement shift boot, and there are a ton of shift boot options on the website. This is definitely one of the more subtle ones. You guys can see, you have the full-grain black leather here with the black stitching, and this is wrapped around a new plastic trim piece for you, so you don't have to worry about any of that. This literally just completely replaces your old shift boot. So, in order to get this on, we're going to take our stock shift knob and we are going to work the new shift boot into this crease here in the shift knob. So, I'm just going to work one side in, and just try to get it over and into its home. The new shift boot is, of course, going to be a little stiff. All right, from here, we are going to thread our shift knob back onto our shifter. Obviously, your shift knob needs to be tight but facing the correct direction. So, at this point, all we have to do is line the shift boot up in the center console, and then clip it into place. All right, guys, that's going to wrap up this review and install. Quick boot replacement
This product is easy to install, and will enhance the appearance of your interior. I had a rip in my shift boot since I bought the car 14 years ago. This installation took 1 minute. The only drawback is that it pops out while driving. I push it back in no problem, but it should be like the original that never came out.Helpful (0)

I would say go OEM on this one. Solid product. I generally get aftermarket parts however for this shift boot I looked around and was surprised by the prices of other competing products. Unless you have a color theme going on in the interior an additional $30 for color stitches isn't worth it. Additionally the other competing shift boots seem to be just the leather so you would have to be fit them around the stock bracket. So with that being said this OEM shift boot is the right choice. Looks great, quality leather, comes already fitted to the bracket, and price is good. Just pull the old boot off and pop the new boot in, takes 30 seconds. Solid all around! Should of replaced it sooner.Helpful (0)

It is NOT Leather
OEM part but unlike as advertised here it is not full grain leather and shouldn't be $60 for vinyl in my opinion. Half that would be what the cost should be.Helpful (0)

it has a great look and makes it look clean! Only issue is if your banging gears it sometimes pops off but takes 2 second me to pop back on. Definitely worth it though!Helpful (0)

Perfect OEM Fit
This is the only shift boot AM sells that comes attatched to the plastic insert that fits into the factory shifter cutout. So there is no ripping the old leather boot off and trying not to break the plastic insert then re gluing it the old insert. Simply remove the old boot assembly and put this one in its place. PLUG and PLAY. Took about 5 minutes to install start to finishHelpful (1)
