    What's up guys? Adam here with, and today I'm bringing you my detailed review of the SR Performance High Performance Universal 16 inch Slim Electric Radiator Fan with the aluminum shroud combo for all '79 to '14 Mustangs. Some of you Mustang guys out there with the early fox bodies all the way up to the late S197s may be experiencing some overheating problems with your engine, or maybe you just need some extra room in the front of your engine bay for major mods like a turbo. This mod can be especially useful for you guys and the guys out there giving your pony a beating at the track. The engine can really heat up to some dangerous temperatures under all that stress and that's where the SR Performance High Performance Fan can come into play. Mustangs can sometimes run on the hotter side even if you're just daily driving it like I am with my Cobra. And we all know that they can use a little bit of help keeping cool, especially during long commutes and bumper-to-bumper traffic during the summer months. Upgrading to a High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan like this one from SR Performance can definitely correct the overheating problems and be an ideal upgrade or replacement. This electric fan I have here today is a 16 inch, ultra slim electric powered one-speed design with an aluminum shroud included in the kit. This fan includes 10 blades as opposed to the 9 or 6 blades that sometimes come stock on the Mustangs. The CFM rating for those of you who don't know, is the Cubic Feet per Minute, basically referring to the velocity at which air flows into or out of a space, in this case, the space being the engine bay. Now, you don't want expect your quarter mile to have seconds knocked off, but what you can expect is your engine to run a little bit cooler, which can definitely help with the quarter mile in the long run. Some customers even saw a 15 degree temperature difference, which is obviously a very good bonus. As I mentioned before this is an ultra slim fit design, so for those of you running an intricate setup like a forced induction may require more room for a turbo at the front of the engine bay. This design may be very helpful in getting everything to fit properly under your hood. Now as I mentioned before this is a universal fan, meaning it will work with all '79 to '14 Mustangs including the old push rod 5.0 engines like I have, or the 3 valve V6 engines. Now with that said, it might require slight modification to make it work with your particular setup. Price-wise, this fan and aluminum shroud comes in at just about the $120 mark, making it a bit more expensive than the other options on the market, but you do want to keep in mind that it is universal and it does come with a really good quality shroud. Now it's not the most expensive option on the market, but when it comes to a fan that includes a high quality shroud such as this one, you can definitely expect a price bump over the kits that just include a fan by itself. Now the installation for this part, because it is universal, may differ for some users. How you actually decide to mount the shroud and fan to your radiator is completely up to you, but I have found that you can probably spend less than 10 bucks for metal straps just to get this mounted to the radiator. Now if you need a good reference to what I mean, we do have an installation guide on the site but I do want to point out that because it's universal, it will differ for some users, so the installation guide might not directly apply to your situation because it's not directly a plug and play job. The wiring for this is also completely up to you. Some may find it easier just to splice it into the factory harness, others may find it easier to wire it into a dedicated switch. Again, you may need to get a little custom with the wiring, but it's also very doable. From start to finish, this install may take you up to two hours. Once you get the factory fan out, most of your time will be spent doing the mounting and wiring for the custom universal fan. With that said, I definitely give it a 2 out of 3 wrenches on the Difficulty Scale.     Will this fan quiet down my 2006 V6? When I'm sitting in my car, the fan is louder than the exhaust!

    • Hello! The sound could be a few different things, however it sounds like your factory fan is starting to go bad, so I would think that this would definitely help to quiet down the car.

    • There are two ways in which you could wire the SR Performance Universal 16 in. High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan with Shroud. The first is the less desirable route. This would be using a switch and relay to manually turn the fan on and off. The ideal way to wire this would be by purchasing a thermostatic fan controller to automatically turn the fan on and off at preset temperatures.

    How will the CFM difference be in regards to a 2015 GT Performance Package fan? I was considering pairing this with the Mishimoto aluminum radiator as this shroud is only 3/4" shorter in length and 1.93" shorter in height in regards to the core size, so it should pair up nicely size wise, but I want to make sure the CFM is greater than the OEM GT performance package fan.

    • The SR Performance Universal 16 in. High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan will flow less than the 2015+ OEM radiator fan.

    Hi. I have a 91 GT . Do i need a new thermostat and thermostat housing with sensor to kick the fan on when it gets to hot? And do i need a adjustmant controler like the one that comes in SVE radiator/ fan kit at LMR ?

    • This SR Performance Universal 16 in. High Performance Slim Electric Radiator Fan w/ Shroud is a universal fan, so it may be configured multiple way. You may wire it on an on/off switch, a thermostatic switch/controller or you may wire it to a power source that is on when the ignition is on.

    I have a 96 Gt, will this fan be a simple plug and play with my factory harness? Also I have the aluminum sr performance radiator will this fit and bolt on directly or will modifications need to be done? I noticed a few buyers mentioned it’s size being shorter on the sides.

    • This fan is a universal part and may require some modification for proper fitment.

    I just replaced the original radiator in my 93 LX 5.0 five speed with an aluminum one. I assume the old fan ran constantly when the engine was running since it was belt driven.       Excellent Fan For The Money

      This is well worth the money, mounting wasn't that tricky if you are slightly creative and it looks really good in the engine bay. I spent maybe $10 in hardware for mounting purposes and drilled two holes in the bottom of the shroud so it's bolted onto the radiator in 4 places (very sturdy) but that didn't seem like a huge deal to me. Keeps my built 306 cooler than the old, ugly clutch fan (granted, I do have a edelbrock high flow water pump and 3 row aluminum radiator but still) and was really easy to wire up. It is also surprisingly quiet for a 7amp motor. Would not hesitate to buy this at all especially when every other electric fan out there is ~$200.

      06 mustang

      I noticed my car started to overheat on and off, the radiator fan was the first thing I checked. Ever since I put this in car runs a lot better. Fan is universal so you will have to creative to get it mounted right.

      One thing is they don't give u any hardware for install. An u to see where to attach it. I bought to their sve radiator still having trouble connecting top line..week later. Had trouble with bottom line that's in. The fan to no paper work for install fan wires to stock fan.

      Great fan!

      The fan works great, not a single problem. I wired mine into the harness's high power @ first which will get you by just fine. I now have it wired into a switch which is located just under my steering wheel. Great fan with a nice look. I am in the process of making a mount; currently zip tied to radiator mounts.

      Almost a fit

      The fan and shroud are beautiful. Good craftsmanship. But not even close to a bolt on fit. Wrong connection and no temp sensor either. A great product but not a direct bolt on.

      tight fit

      Reason for title is that I have a SR 3 core radiator and being about 2" wide it put the fan very close to the water pump. To make it fit I had to mount the fan and shroud to the far side (as close to the fill cap) of the radiator as possible. As for functionality the fan does the job it is designed to do. I had a variable pitch engine driven fan before this installation, The variable pitch fan mad a lot of wind noise while accelerating which was very annoying to me. I control the fan with a thermostat that monitors the temperature of the water entering the engine. Living in Florida cooling of the engine is a prime problem in the summertime but this arrangement works exceedingly well for me. As a final statement the fan was an excellent choice for me and IT WORKS VERY WELL. I'll send some pictures of the installation as soon as I have them and figure out how to upload them. lol

      SR Fan

      I give it 3 because it looks nice. It won't be installed for some time. Project car and still gathering some parts. As well the box wasn't sealed very well. The flaps were completely loose as far as not having any tape or staples. Only had straps that can easily slide off.

      SR Performance Slim Fan w/ Shroud

      My ‘97 F-1A ProCharged Cobra with a 4” think front-mount intercooler was having a tough time keeping cool while in traffic. I purchased the SR Performance Slim Fan w/ Shroud and have not has a problem since. The shroud was not made specifically for my year model Cobra, so I had a make a little modification on the mounting tabs, but otherwise it fits snug, and looks significantly better than the factory fan w/shroud.

      Will not fit a 2000 v6 3.8L

      Have a 2000 v6 3.8L. Thought it would fit but not even close. It was a good 3 inches on each side too small. No way possible to install without serious fabrication. Returned for refund

      A nice streamed lined fan that allows for more room in the engine bay. Keeps my down a little too good and added a thermostat with a relay to allow temps to be a little higher.

      Good Quality, Required Modification to fit

      I purchased for 1983 GLX 3.8 Foxbody. This was not a direct fit. I had to utilize metal zip ties and radiator straps to fit. AM did state this, so it was not a surprise. I had to drill some holes on the ears. Because the 3.8 came from factory with an electric fan, it was quick to install. Unfortunately my car is still over heating, with AC on. I only gave it 4 starts, because it did not provide any additional cooling, over stock fan.

      Great item, just wish if they give you bolts that it comes with washers and nuts. Had to use my own thing which isn’t an issue because of the amazing value!

      Just ok to me

      It works well but showed up with only the top tabs drilled. One was bent completely sideways and still had burn marks from being welded. Also, none of the edges were smoothed in any kind of way....i worked in a machine shop for several years and know this fan could have been made to look a lot better with just a few minutes more if attention.

      Fits and works good

      I had to replace the stock fan because it would not fit with a turbo. This fan fits food and was easy to install. Just make some simple L brackets and your set. I have no issue so far with this item
