Run Cooler. Increase the cooling efficiency of your S197 V8 Pony by upgrading to a Mishimoto Performance 160 Degree Racing Thermostat. By installing this racing thermostat, your high engine temperatures will be significantly reduced, which will help to prevent overheating and potential engine damage in modified and forced induction applications.

More Power. Opening at a lower temperature over stock, this Mishimoto Performance Racing Thermostat ultimately aids in producing more power for your Pony. It will open at 160 °F, compared to the standard OEM factory thermostat at 180 °F, and will allow coolant to flow through the engine block sooner. This will reduce and maintain cooler engine temperatures and therefore, produce more power.

Application. This Mishimoto 160 Degree Racing Thermostat is specifically designed for use on 2005 to 2010 Mustangs equipped with the 4.6L V8 engine, including the GT, Bullitt and Shelby GT500 models.

I have researched Summit, PartsTrain, and Amazon and this thermostat (MMTS-MUS-05L) claims to fit the 2005 - 2010 Mustang V6 (4.0L) as well, but AM does not say this. Will this fit my 08 V6?

alewalls

  • As per the fitment guide on our website, the Mishimoto Performance Racing Thermostat - 160 Degree (05-10 GT, GT500) will not fit a 2008 V6.

What direction does the floating pin on the outside ring need to be facing?

drdenbow

  • If you are referring to the Mishimoto Performance Racing Thermostat the direction should not matter.

Could I use this in my car for everyday driving without doing damage? The only mod I have so far is Roush exhaust.

Alex333

  • Yes, you can use this thermostat on your car. You just need to get a tune and tell the tuner that you have a 160* thermostat. Or just get a Bama tune and they have an option where you select what degree your thermostat is. Also, i would only use this if you live in the southern part of the U.S. 160* is too cold for the north.

    Ice Cold

Installed it in about 2 and a half hours. Did a test run with it after a coolant flush and adding new fresh coolant with some Purple Ice. Now the GT's temp gauge won't get much above a quarter of the way running at 85 MPH and all warmed up. Good stuff. Keeping it real cool, hopefully will help battle the extreme heat that'll be coming soon too. Definitely a good product.

    Cooling down the heat!

I had this installed at the dealer with a coolant flush since I hit 75k on the clock. It's summertime in Florida and the heat is on in a big way. Since changing to the Comp stage 3 cams and the summer sun she's been running up there in temp when the A/C is on max. This change brought it back down to a comfortable temp range.

    Thermostat

After looking around and doing some research I decided to purchased the Mishimoto Thermostat due to the oem one on my 2007 gt500 failing. No Complains so far, vehicle stays noticeably cooler going based of of temperature needle. Installation all in all was by far to simple. Thermostat was replaced in about 10 min (with dimple on thermostat facing upwards of course) and about another 10-15min bleeding the system.

    Good product

This is a good mod if your pony has upgrades done to it. It helps the with your engines temp. I installed on an 05 which was fairly easy since these have the housing in between the radiator lines unlike the 07

    Performance thermo

Easy simple installation for a colder ride. With the addition of a Turbonotics system I needed something to help keep the engine cool. Along with a Megan Racing aluminum radiator and Mishimoto silicon hoses it's bound to stay cool.
