Justin: Hey everybody, Justin with americanmuscle.com here with Chip Foose checking out the MMD by Foose hood scoop available for your 2015 and up Mustang in your choice of either unpainted or prepainted. Who better to talk about this product than the man himself, Chip Foose? Chip, what do we have going on here? Chip: Well, this hood scoop, I actually put it on my 2015 convertible that I built for the SEMA show. Before I had ever seen the car in person I had gotten a couple of pictures and I had done some sketches. I really changed the design quite a bit once I actually got the car, because it's the subtlety of form that's the design language of this car. You want to be able to pull that same language into any part that you're building so it doesn't look like an after market part and it looks like something that should've come from the factory. When you follow the little lines and the details, even this little fade out of the line coming into the front, it's the same thing that's happening with the headlight. I just pulled the same little peak that's in the hood itself. It comes through the center of the hood. Like I say, it's the subtlety of design language that you want to put into every part that you're making to put on the car. It's giving it that muscle car feel but it still looks like that classic Mustang design that you know from Ford itself. Justin: It really does look like a muscle car hood. You spoke to me at the SEMA show. You really liked how the factory hood had these two almost lines in the hood and you really wanted to work off that. Chip: Yeah. I love these lines. The way it rolls up, I wanted that same surface to transfer right through into the hood scoop but look like it's not an after market part that's bolted on the car. It looks like a part that came on the car. Justin: Absolutely. Speaking of bolting it up to your car, guys, it does include detailed instructions of course along with a drilling template. There is a little bit of drilling involved but not that bad. Figure a couple of hours from start to finish to get everything bolted up to your car. Again, it is available either unpainted or prepainted. With the AM prepainted parts, of course you can expect a perfect color match right out of the box as we can see here with this ingot silver car. Chip, great part, sir. It looks great on the Mustang here. Guys, if you want a really unique hood scoop for your 2015 and up Mustang, be sure to check out this particular hood scoop from MMD by Foose here at americanmuscle.com.

How does the scoop act aerodynamically? Does air pass through or is it blocked inside? Is it open or closed at the front or windshield? How heavy is it? Will it add a lot of weight to my Red Line Tuning hydraulic hood supports?

Boxcar

  • This hood scoop will not allow much air to pass through and will be blocked. As for the weight this would be around 15 lbs and would work perfectly with your hood struts.

I have the 2017 Lighting blue 5.0 California edition, the little scoops on hood are glossy black. I would like to order Hood Scope in glossy black, which black listed is glossy?

LoriH

  • The standard Gloss Black is available from us under the color "Black, UA". UA is the black paint code from Ford which is used to guarantee they match.

Which is a higher gloss black, black or shadow black?

Jason

  • Hey Jason, Well the black is supposed to match the color of your car by the two digit code found on your door jam, but as in a general gloss black that would be the regular black.

Can the hood scoop withstand a touch free automatic power wash, or would the piece get lose?

AsimA

  • When installed correctly, and allowed time to bond to the car, the MMD by FOOSE Hood Scoop should have no issues staying on in a touch free car wash.

    MMD Foose Hood install

With a help of a friend, I suggest removing the hood. It would make the install much easier and could meet the install time of 1 hour. However, if you plan to keep hood on the car, then except a longer install. Color match was perfect, paper template not the best and the alignment was the hardest part to align and drill from under the hood. Weather stripping does not need to come off 100, from left to right you can stop by the sixth plug. Looks amazing, the paint of Competition Orange match 100. Overall install took 3 hours with hood on, and we took our time.

    Great bolt on

Really nice paint did find one minor flaw on the edge but touched up easly. The 4 star rating is for the template, made me verry nervous drilling holes in a new hood.

    Classy upgrade

I got this to replace the stock spoiler on my 2015 GT, which is just too small and plain for a muscle car. I'm happy with the results: the Foose spoiler gives a little flair without going overboard. It seems well made; the mounting screw holes lined up with holes for the stock spoiler. The pre-painted Deep Impact Blue spoiler that arrived is not a great match in color, however, but close enough that most folks won't notice. One negative I found was the inadequate instructions. They don't address removal of the stock spoiler at all. The last line of the instructions says, "Remove tape backing and install the wing using the provided hardware". To do this correctly, you should peel back just enough of the tape backing to stick out beyond the edge of the spoiler while you position it so that it doesn't get permanently stuck to the trunk lid with the mounting holes out of position. Once it IS in position, you can then pull the exposed tape backing to remove it all the way around and press into place. The stock spoiler has studs that go through the trunk lid holes which are secured with nuts from the underside. The Foose spoiler has threaded holes underneath, so you have to insert screws into the spoiler after it is placed on the trunk lid. This is problematic because it's so easy to slip and lose the screw between the outer and inner panels of the lid. I taped the screw to the end of the screw driver to avoid this. It's much easier to thread a nut, which is securely nestled inside of a socket, onto a stud, than it is to insert a screw under these circumstances. The most time consuming part for me was getting all of the foam tape residue from the stock spoiler off of my trunk lid.

    Great fit. Looks mean.

Love this scoop. Easy to install. Nerve racking drilling holes in new hood but took my time and got them dead on. TIP. I used wood dowel rod to make 2 alignment studs so I could hold it in place until I got the other 3 screws started. Then pulled out the rods to put the last 2 in. Worked great.

    2017 White Platinum Convertible

I was amazed when I got my mustang back from the body shop. They matched the tri color white platinum perfectly and did and excellent job installing the parts. Not only did I get the unpainted Chip Foose hood scoop by MMD but I also got the Foose side scoops and spoiler. They all look great and I get a lot of looks driving it too.

    Foose hood scoop

I gave it 4 stars only because the template is lousy and didnt have a sticky spot like it was supposed to for locating hood holes. But the scoop itself is great and looks amazing on my 17 mustang GT. It's really scary drilling holes in a new hood but it went well. I used a paint pen to paint the holes to prevent rust. Also used some tape on the bolt head and wrapped the bolt to the screw driver so i didnt lose any bolts in the hood. Looks very professional and the dealer even said how great it looks when I went in to get my plates! The shadow black paint is perfect and looks awesome. It was speedy but worth the improved looks. I love it. It look longer to install but I went really slow and tried not to mess up

    Great looking Scoop

I really like the way the scoop looks on the car. The only problem is had is the first one I received had 2 major defects in the scoop. Some how they were painted over and still shipped. I would think they would be inspected before being boxed and shipped. The second one arrived with no issues.. Customer service was great with taking care of the issue I had.
