Review & Install Video
Hey guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here with my review of the MMD roof spoiler for all 2015 and up S550 Mustangs. The MMD roof spoiler is a quick and easy way to enhance the exterior appearance of the S550 in a non-permanent way, so it's a good option for those owners that are looking to just add a little something more, but that aren't looking to get crazy modifying.
This roof spoiler's going to sit right at the top of the back window along the roof line, and looking at it here on the table, there are a few things to note. First of all, you can see the shape of this piece. It's shaped to fit perfectly and it's not a flat piece. We're going to be installing this later, so we can take a look at the fit more then, but I like that MMD didn't just make this a flat piece. It's an aerodynamic design, and there's a step up here for that third brake light, so you won't lose that. And, ultimately, what this is going to do is continue with the roof line of the car, but stand up off of the window at the same time, so it's noticeable, for sure, and it's compatible with all Mustangs, from the EcoBoost to the GT 350.
This is made from a durable automotive grade ABS material, and more specifically, a vacuum-formed ABS plastic. It's very lightweight, and this type of material is commonly used for after-market exterior mods because of its long-lasting durability. This spoiler also has a matte black finish that is smooth, which is nice because it'll work with any paint color. You could also paint match this if you want, but honestly, I think it looks pretty damn good as it is.
As far as price, this spoiler costs $200, which is right in line with the other roof spoiler that's currently available for the S550 right now, the CDC Outlaw. One thing that the MMD has over the CDC spoiler, though, is texture. Like I mentioned, this spoiler is smooth, so it'll look good as is or painted. The CDC roof spoiler is a TPO material that has that factory grainy texture. So, that's just a little inside info for you.
Another great thing about this roof spoiler is the install. I'm not sure it can get any easier than this. You're looking at spending about 15 minutes, and I'm going to call it a one-out-of-three wrenches on the scale even though you won't need any tools to get this done. This comes ready to install right out of the box and has 3M tape pre-installed on the back already.
To start the install, you are going to want to make sure that the rear window is as clean as possible, and I'm talking no bugs or grime or any of that. Once the window is clean, use the supplied alcohol prep pads to prep the very top of the window where the 3M tape will be making contact. After that, use the supplied adhesion promoter, and you want to bead around the very top of the window. This will help to make sure the connection between the 3M and the window will not fail and will be solid. Next, flip the roof spoiler over and peel the backing off of the pre-installed 3M tape. Then it's just a matter of lining the spoiler up to the very top of the window and firmly pressing down to make a seal. You really only have one chance at lining this up correctly, so if you have an extra set of hands to help you out, that might make things easier for you here.
That's it as far as the install, but if you want to take a look at the fit, you can see that this thing does fit very nicely. Just as a side note, you do have a little bit of room to decide where you want to stick this down, so if you want to set it a little higher up, you can do that as well. And that third brake light's still going to be seen under this, and I just wanted to make sure that that was still going to be visible.
Wrapping things up here, the MMD roof spoiler is a quick and easy way to do some exterior mods and add some more style to your S550, and it looks great by itself or paired with other mods. It's a smooth matte black piece that's going to work on all 2015 and up Mustangs, and it keeps that third brake light visible. You can check it out more online, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.
