    Features & Details

    • Superior Quality
    • CNC-Cut from 8620 Gear Steel
    • 4.56 Gear Ratio
    • 8.8" Ring Gear Diameter
    • For Street or Track Use
    • Fits 1994-1998 GT and Cobra Mustangs
Improve Overall Performance. Improve your V8-powered Mustang's off-the-line responsiveness with a set of 4.56 gears from Motive. These high quality 4.56 gears from Motive will give your Mustang more pull off the line and get you into your power band faster for quicker quarters and lower ET's.

Superior Construction & Precision Fit. These Motive ring and pinon gears are CNC cut from high grade 8620 gear steel, and factory lapped for precision fit. Each set is hardness tested prior to leaving the factory to ensure the highest quality. Unlike other brands, Motive Gears do not have a reputation for "gear whine".

Recommended Upgrade. Changing the rear axle gear ratio will throw off the calibration of your Mustangs speedometer, but a new Speedometer Gear is an inexpensive way to fix this issue.

Application. This Motive Performance Plus 4.56 Ring and Pinion Gear set will fit all 1994 to 1998 V8 Mustangs including the GT and Cobra models. A master bearing kit is recommended by most installers, especially on high mileage vehicles, see drop down option above.

Please Note. Due to the high numeric gear ratio, it will require a notched gear cross pin for proper installation.

Technical Note. Installation costs will vary, but a good rule of thumb is between $250 and $300. Be sure to work with a reliable shop that you trust for installations. You can also save money on your installation labor by having your Trac-Lok rebuilt at the same time as your gears are installed, see drop down option above.

    Ask a Question

What is the most benefit I would gain from installing the 4.56 gears?

    SteveP

Will these fit on a v6? I have a '98 v6 and I was wondering, even though it says it will fit only on a gt, will these gears fit on my v6? And do I have to do anything else to the car, like to the engine or anything, or can I just put the gears in and leave everything else alone?

    zackulak

    • If your v6 has and 8.8 rear end then yes these should work. I believe V6 cars had a smaller rear end though.

      4.56 gears 96 cobra

I really dident know what gear I wanted to go with.. I read a lot about how it's bad in the highway and gas mileage and blah blah. I went from 3.73's to 4.56's... And boy am I ever happier.. Gas mileage is fine at around or just below 295 miles a tank. Highway is also fine at around 70mph I'm just at 2800ish rpm's. Great buy.... Just don't forget to buy a Speedcal or your speedo will be off quite a bit. All in all thanks AM for a great product and buy.

      Awesome Gears

Awesome gears for the Mach 1. I did cams and needed to get back some of the lower band power! These did the trick! Car feels like it is ready to move out at whatever rpm you are at. Works great on the street and the strip.

      fun

These are some fun gears if you have an auto trans. I dont drive on the highway to much but you can for sure. The gas millage isnt good highway but city its not to much worse.
