    Review & Install Video

Hey everyone I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and I’m taking a look at a part that will add a subtle touch of Billet customization to the interior of any automatic 87-04 Mustang thanks to this T handle shift knob. T handle shifters have been in the interiors of Mustangs since the 60’s, and now thanks to this Billet piece, your ride can share the same classic styling, all while still maintaining your overdrive function. The name says it all: Billet. This knob is manufactured from 100% aircraft grade Billet aluminum, and is sure to last the life of your Mustang. It also features a very comfortable grip, and a nice aluminum finish, which is a great improvement over the cheap factory knob. Depending on whether or not your car is equipped with overdrive, your install time may vary a little, we’ll call it 45 minutes just to be safe. You will need some allen wrenches, a torc set, some wire cutters, and a zip tie. Don’t worry, you’re not cutting any wires but you will have to relocate your overdrive button. Once you get past that, it’s a piece of cake. Now this shift knob looks great on its own, but if you’re like me, and you’re always searching for more ways to customize your ride, then you might want to check out one of our polished Billet interior dress up kits, or even a set of chrome gauge bezels to complete the look. So if you’re tired of that boring factory shift knob and you want to replace it with something that really shines, you’ll definitely want to check out this retro T-handle shift knob for your ride.

Modern Styling. Replace your boring black OEM automatic shift knob with a polished Billet T-Handle for great modern styling. This knob will give your automatic Mustang the high-end look it deserves and it matches our other billet accessories perfectly.

Billet Aluminum Construction. Machined from aircraft quality 6061 T6 billet aluminum this automatic shift knob features a comfort grip that is designed to fit your hand perfectly, and features a smooth polished finish.

Compatible with Overdrive Button. To accommodate the factory overdrive button located on the stock shift handle, this T-Handle shift knob features a convenient billet relocation bracket.

Application. This Billet T-Handle Shift Knob is designed for use on all 1987 to 2004 Mustangs equipped with an automatic transmission, with or without overdrive.

relocate O/D button to the dash or? could the O/D button be moved to the dash area by the shifter?

    yankees03

    • Yea, you can put it anywhere, but why? Essentially, you are just replacing an old knob. The switch fits into the new one. Remember this, it is a factory wire harness and is designed to go in the handle. They don't use too much extra wire. To relocate it you will probably have to splice in your own wire to legnthen it for relocation. I'm not saying it will, but if you made even the slightest mistake in the splice, you will have to take it back apart. If you have some of the luck I do, It'll be dark, cold, and raining!

Paint? I know alot like it the way it is, but i like the look of my black shifter. But, I like the style of this one better. Does this take paint? If it will, any certain kind since its the polished alum?

    Blayne

    • well prep work is a MUST!!! can not state that enough. scuff the whole thing with fine steel wool. use a oil grease and wax paint prep (available at places like auto zone etc.) then choose the paint you want. I would use something like SEM. prob go with semi-gloss not gloss or black. but that's up to you. remember nice warm temp when painting. use light mist coats, not heavy....!!!! take your time and the results will show! take a look on youtube, some great how-to paint videos. Good luck and be sure to post pics when done...love to see finished project.

      Great looking shifter knob

Couldn't been an easier install the hardest part was getting the 2 torx screws out cause of the tight fit. Other then that couldn't been happier with this purchase.

      Solid addition

This piece is solid aluminum, not coated plastic. I was surprised by weight both in the box and when installed in the car. Feels much better and secure than the stock plastic handle. If you've got the overdrive feature in your mustang prepare for a little more work however. I'd say it took about an hour and a half cause my overdrive button was stuck in the stock handle. Had to carefully get it out.

Installing was a royal pain in the you know what

Honestly. This shifter isn't worth the looks for the effort you have to put in. From dropping screws to tying to disconnect the overdrive connector and when it was all said and done my over drive button doesnt work. Also the set screw was stripped. Pure nightmare. Its a nice looking shifter but my advice is keep the one you have

      Great product!

Looks and feels great! Had to use the spring from the stock shifter, but everything else was included. Allen key for installation IS a different size from the stock shifter, so have a few various sizes on hand so you don't have to scramble to find the right size.

      Great T-Handle - but didn't work

I loved the idea of replacing the factory Shift Knob with this nice looking T-Handle. The listing of this item says it works for 2000 Mustang GT, but unfortunately it did NOT work on my 2000 Mustang GT. Each time it was put on it would blow fuses. I had no problem returning the item though.

      A nice addition

No instructions came with the package. had to download an printout from the AM page. definitely suggest removing the 4 screws that hold the console an moving it back afew inches. and the original plastic shaft sleeve has to be trimmed about one inch off the length.other than that it looks great along with the other billet items I have.

      High Quality!

This is a high quality product, it's finished awesome. Took me about 50 mins to fit, I suggest removing the two screws in the front of the console and the two screws inside the console storage box so you can slide it back an extra inch or two when unhooking the O.D wire. Also use the spring from the knob of the original one and fit it inside the new one, it keeps the thumb button nice and firm in the housing.

      Great looking shifter

Easily 5 stars all around. Long needle nose pliers also came in very handy. I also had to trim the rubber shaft cover about an inch to make it fit all the way down on the shaft. On my 98 GT, I pulled out the cup holders and the O/D plug was right there, so no need to loosen the whole center console.
