Simple installation for anyone.
Hey everyone I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and I’m taking a look at a part that will add a subtle touch of Billet customization to the interior of any automatic 87-04 Mustang thanks to this T handle shift knob. T handle shifters have been in the interiors of Mustangs since the 60’s, and now thanks to this Billet piece, your ride can share the same classic styling, all while still maintaining your overdrive function. The name says it all: Billet. This knob is manufactured from 100% aircraft grade Billet aluminum, and is sure to last the life of your Mustang. It also features a very comfortable grip, and a nice aluminum finish, which is a great improvement over the cheap factory knob. Depending on whether or not your car is equipped with overdrive, your install time may vary a little, we’ll call it 45 minutes just to be safe. You will need some allen wrenches, a torc set, some wire cutters, and a zip tie. Don’t worry, you’re not cutting any wires but you will have to relocate your overdrive button. Once you get past that, it’s a piece of cake. Now this shift knob looks great on its own, but if you’re like me, and you’re always searching for more ways to customize your ride, then you might want to check out one of our polished Billet interior dress up kits, or even a set of chrome gauge bezels to complete the look. So if you’re tired of that boring factory shift knob and you want to replace it with something that really shines, you’ll definitely want to check out this retro T-handle shift knob for your ride.

Dont waste your money
Its a nice look but the screws dont hold the handle tight, handle moves then you cant change gears, ends up wearing out and the handle doesnt stay on and its a hassle. Just keep your stock handle.Helpful (0)

Great Appearance Functionality Mod
Billet T-Handle looks good and works great! Gives the Mustang a nice Old School Shifter look.. Installation was a breeze if your mechanically inclined but still pretty easy if your not. Great buy if your looking to give the interior more of an aggressive look.Helpful (0)

It tool longer to install, then stated in video.. The set screw was hard to get tight,, Handle moved around,, Also has to be perfect to shift gears.. Makes nice look to my 1999 mustang,, also a spring should be included in the kit.Helpful (1)

T-Handle knob Doesn't Fit
When I tried to install the T-Handle knob to replace my stock 2000 V6 mustang handle knob, the dimensions on the new handle button are not the same as the stock. This caused me a lot of confusion. The new handle wouldn't fit properly so i couldn't change gears until I put my old stock t-handle back on. Also the button kept getting stuck inside the handle knob.Helpful (0)
Does this really work on automatic transmissions.
Hi, This t-handle shift knob is designed for use on all 1987 to 2004 Mustangs equipped with an automatic transmission, with or without overdrive.
The factory T-Handle shift knob does not have a set screw. How do I remove the T-Handle?
I recommend taking a look at our online instruction guide! This may help you with your installation, I will put the link to it below. http://www.americanmuscle.com/thandle-shifterknob-auto-8704-install.html
I just bought a Mustang with this shift knob. The OD button is missing and wires hanging to the side of the shifter. Do you sell replacement OD buttons?
I apologize, we do not carry replacement OD buttons.
Can this be anodized? Thanks
Yes this can be anodized.
I was thinking about buying the t shifter min is automatic but it has overdrive I cant find my overdrive button where is it located if its not to hard to install im thinking of buying this .thanks dennis
The overdrive button would be on your factory shift knob. You may not have it but you can still install this shift knob in any 87-04 automatic Mustang
This shift knob will work with all 87-04 Mustangs equipped with an automatic transmission.
The Modern Billet Billet T-Handle Shift Knob is specifically designed for the 87-04 Automatic Mustangs. We cannot guarantee fitment on any other vehicles.
We do have two different T handles for a 2012 mustang. http://www.americanmuscle.com/hurst-thandle-shiftknob-button-7904.html http://www.americanmuscle.com/t-shift-knob.html
Yea, you can put it anywhere, but why? Essentially, you are just replacing an old knob. The switch fits into the new one. Remember this, it is a factory wire harness and is designed to go in the handle. They don't use too much extra wire. To relocate it you will probably have to splice in your own wire to legnthen it for relocation. I'm not saying it will, but if you made even the slightest mistake in the splice, you will have to take it back apart. If you have some of the luck I do, It'll be dark, cold, and raining!
well prep work is a MUST!!! can not state that enough. scuff the whole thing with fine steel wool. use a oil grease and wax paint prep (available at places like auto zone etc.) then choose the paint you want. I would use something like SEM. prob go with semi-gloss not gloss or black. but that's up to you. remember nice warm temp when painting. use light mist coats, not heavy....!!!! take your time and the results will show! take a look on youtube, some great how-to paint videos. Good luck and be sure to post pics when done...love to see finished project.
There are a few you could make fit ( boots are usually for manual shifters ), and I think it would be kind of a shame to cover alot of the looks of that shifter. Personally I think it's kind of cool the way it is.
