Hey, guys. Adam here with americanmuscle.com. Today, we're taking a quick look at and installing the White LED Light Bar Tail Lights in Black, available for the '05 to '09 Mustang. You should be checking these out if you're looking to modernize the rear end of your early S197 to get a similar tail light styling to the newer iconic S550 tail lights from the '15 to '17 Mustang generation. This is going to use an upgraded LED technology, as opposed to your factory incandescent technology, for a lot brighter, more vibrant, overall more attractive modern rear end. Now, as you know, the factory S197 tail lights of this car came with a very flat, very traditional red chrome interior with the factory tri-bars. This has a more protruded or 3D-looking tail light design similar to the new vehicles, like I said. And the LED technology here is going to spice things up. But not only that, but it's also got a built-in sequential tail light technology, which is going to help it blink for the turn signals, hazards, and brake lights in sequence from the inside out on both sides. So, no need to pick up any sequential harness separately, no need to do any splicing or wiring. All of that's built into the upgraded tech here. Now, the interior housing there is a gloss black with a clear lens to give you the impression of a smoked tail light for the stealthy appearance without hindering any of the light output. Now, this is going to use a white opaque tri-bar design when the lights are off. And when they turn on, you get this vibrant red. Now, underneath of that, you get three of the red reflectors and then, of course, your reverse light in the corner. You are going to be reusing the factory reverse light bulb. It's an easy swap, but just know that that's not an LED technology built-in. Some of the other tail lights in the category are a complete LED upgrade. I personally don't mind the reverse light being a white incandescent bulb, but you can always upgrade that in the future if you'd like. Now, the price tag for this guy comes in right around 500 bucks. Install, I'm giving one out of three wrenches on our difficult to meter. Anybody can tackle this in the driveway at home with about an hour from start to finish. I'm going to show you guys the entire process here. It is plug and play like I said, so it makes it a whole lot easier. Let's get started.Tools used in the install include a ratchet and an 11-millimeter deep socket.First step, of course, is to pop your trunk. You get to remove this trim liner right around our trunk latch. Now, yours should have a plastic clip holding in in the top here and on the bottom. Ours is missing the hardware. So, ours will pop off. But just pop up those plastic clips here with a panel removal tool and set them aside. And you're going to lift up on the trim and just set it face down inside the trunk. We're going to focus on our passenger side. There are three 11-millimeter nuts on studs holding this guy in. One here, here, and here. Grab an 11-millimeter deep socket and a ratchet and get those off.All right. From there, we can pinch and disconnect the factory harness. All right. So, I'm gonna pinch and pull that guy off, just like that. Now, we can pull the tail light out in one piece. And you may need to go in there and push on the studs, pull that guy out. Now, there is this rubber grommet. So, you want to make sure you're pushing that out from the inside, just like that. Feed the harness through the hole, set your factory light aside. So, we got our factory tail light off of the passenger side here and it's on the table next to our white LED DRL option. And I want to show you guys some similarities and differences here. And, of course, it really is completely different.Overall, the quality of construction and the housing is going to be very similar, but the design itself and the technology used in the inside is vastly different. Your factory tail light here, of course, is the very traditional red flat tri-bar, something that we see on the '05 to '09 body styles, extremely traditional and, honestly at this point, very outdated. The new option here is going to mimic that of the 2015 to 2017 Mustang tail lights, where it has that almost 3D effect where it bevels out a little bit more as opposed to the flat design. This also uses a gloss black interior housing with a clear lens to give you guys the impression of the smoked tail light without actually hindering light output. Now, this is going to use opaque white tri-bars that illuminate, of course, in red to match the red brake lights and tail lights, and, of course, the turn signals as well. And then, finally, you get the three reflectors on the bottom and your reverse lights. So, that's similar to the factory one, instead of it being two reflectors and a reverse light, it's three now. So, it's a little bit different, not super different, but at the end of the day, it's the technology and the S550 styling that switches things up.Now, the nice thing about these tail lights is it is plug and play. Looking at the back here, it looks somewhat similar to the factory one, but it's going to, kind of, congregate into one harness instead of this being three individual bulbs there. So, the LED technology is built in, but we do have to transfer over our reverse light bulb. So, let's do that now.All right. So, looking at the back of the factory tail light, you're just going to twist counterclockwise on the reverse light, pop that guy out of the housing, and you're just going to pinch at the base of the bulb and disconnect. I'm going to carefully set that down and basically do the same thing on the new tail light. You're going to go to the corner, twist counterclockwise, and pull that out. And then pop the bulb into the socket. Just like that, make sure it seats all the way and then insert it back in and clockwise to lock it in place. Now, we can install it.All right. First step here with the install is to feed your harness through that open hole. And it's got a new grommet, so you want to pull the wiring carefully through so that the grommet actually seats properly. You may need to push from the outside to get it to seat to get that weatherproof seal. All right. Just like that.I'm just going to carefully plug in our harness there. I want to hear that click. It looks like the grommet came out, so we want to see that again. Just make sure that's seated all the way. So, now we can see the tail light by pushing the studs through. Once you push those studs through, grab the factory 11-millimeter nuts, and thread those guys on. Grab your ratchet and socket and tighten them down. Okay. Repeat that on the other side. Okay. Once you have the other side repeated, you can pop the trim piece back on, make sure it hugs over top of the trunk latch, seat those properly. And, of course, remember ours are missing the hardware, but you want to put your push pins back through on each side, and you're good to go.That's going to wrap up my review and install for the White Light Bar LED Tail Lights in Black, available for the '05 to '09 Mustang.
