Review & Install Video

What's going on, guys? Adam here with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm bringing you my review of the Raxiom Stage 1 Interior Lighting Kit in cool white for all S550 '15, '16 Mustang owners. The Raxiom Interior Stage 1 Lighting Kit is a perfect way for all S550, GT, V6, and EcoBoost owners to improve the lighting quality and appearance of the interior of your vehicle. This kit will include LED replacements in cool white for all factory incandescent bulbs in your map light or dome light, your glove box, your vanity lights, and your trunk. To give you an idea on the brightness of the Raxiom Kit, the factory incandescent bulbs are rated at 35 lumens each. The Raxiom HP3 LED Bulbs are rated at 55 lumens each. Now, that means not only do they burn a little bit brighter than the stock lights, turning that yellowish color into a cool white, the light distribution actually lights up a lot more of your interior to help with the visibility. One of the best things about this kit, aside from the lighting, is the installation. They're 100% plug-and-play, which means there's no splicing, cutting, or resistors required. The map, trunk, and glove boxes are all the same at 194 HP3 LED Bulbs, while the vanity lights are a little bit smaller to fit in the housing at 74 SMD1 Bulbs. Altogether, they all give out the 55 lumens each. Now, you might think because this is an LED conversion kit that the price is kind of high. That's not the case here. Raxiom offers the Stage 1 Lighting Kit for your interior for just shy of $40. Forty bucks gets you all the interior lighting, including the trunk, map light, vanity light, and glove box. Raxiom also offers a Stage 2 Lighting Kit, which is just featuring brighter bulbs. Both kits are very budget-friendly. It just depends on how bright you want your interior to be. Installation of the map light is very simple. You'll pull down on the assembly that's held on by two clips on the back, remove the bulb, swap it out with the Raxiom bulb, and pop the housing back on. For the vanity light installation, you might need a small flat-head screwdriver to pop the cover off. You'll pop the cover off from the bottom edge, closest to the mirror, unscrew two screws, close the vanity mirror, and pop it off from the top. Once you get the housing off, you can swap the bulbs out and put the housing back together as simply as you took it off. For the glove box light installation, it can be done one of two ways. Some people might find it easier just to pop the glove box open and switch the bulbs out from there. Others might find it easier to pop the glove box open and then pop the secondary hatch open to gain access to the housing a little bit easier. Either way, once you get the housing open, swap the bulbs out and close everything back up. The trunk light might require a little bit more work on your end, but it's still simple enough. You'll still need a flat-head screwdriver just to pop the bulb housing out from the left side, because the right side has wiring harness. Once you get the wiring harness out, you want to unplug it, take it completely out of the housing, swap the bulbs out, plug it back in, and put everything back together. When all is said and done, you're looking at about 15 to 20 minutes, start to finish, on the entire install. It's a no-brainer that I'd give this one out of three wrenches on our difficulty scale. To wrap things up, guys, if you're looking to improve the interior lighting and appearance of your '15, '16 S550 Mustang, then pick up a set of the Raxiom Stage 1 Cool White Interior Lighting Kit right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improves Lighting and Appearance. A Stage 1 LED Conversion Kit will improve the lighting and appearance of your S550 Mustangs interior. The factory incandescent bulbs are only rated at 35 lumens each, while the Stage 1 Cool White HP3 Bulbs are rated at 55 lumens. These bulbs are not only brighter than stock, but they also provide a uniform distribution of light for better visibility.

Superb Quality. The 194 HP3 and 74 SMD1 LED Bulbs included in the Stage 1 Kit produce a brilliant 6000K light, delivering a crisp, clean white light. Wired for 12V operation, these Bulbs feature a high-quality plastic base. An embedded load resistor is used to prevent failure from voltage surges, as an implanted diode protects the LED from reverse polarity.

Stage 1 Kit Includes. This Stage 1 LED Interior Conversion Kit comes complete and includes (2) Map Bulbs, (1) Trunk Bulb, (1) Glove Box Bulb and (4) Vanity Light Bulbs.

Plug-and-Play Installation. Installation of the Stage 1 Interior Lighting Kit is 100% plug-and-play. There is no cutting, splicing or resistors required, just replace your factory incandescent bulbs with the ones in the kit. It's that easy!

Application. This Stage 1 LED Interior Lighting Kit is specifically designed for use on the 2015-2017 Ford Mustangs, including the V6, EcoBoost, GT and Shelby GT350 models.

Is there a way to get just one bulb. Because I lost one of mine. Do I have to buy the whole kit again?

I just put these lights in my v6 and they seemed to work. Then I tried putting the trunk one in then as soon as I took the stock light out all my lights aren't working now. I don't know what happened. None of my interior lights work now. Neither the stock or raxioms work. What happened?

GrantK

  • We are sorry to hear about this issue. It could be a blown fuse since your stock or the Raxiom lights are not working. Please give us a call in so we can help you out with this. https://www.americanmuscle.com/contact.html

I want to choose a similar lumen brightness that will match the footwell LED Raxiom kit. Would the stage 1 or stage 2 better match the lumen output?

HerbS

  • The Raxiom Stage 1 Interior LED Lighting Kit 2 Is the brighter of the 2 kits. Stage 1 has 55 lumens stage 2 is 92 lumens.

What is different between this and stage 2???

TranM

  • The difference is the lights in the stage 1 and the stage 2. The stage 1 will have HP3 lights whereas the stage 2 will have HP5 lights.

I installed all the LED's and the map lights only come on when the doors are open and not when I press the manual buttons. The trunk, glove box and vanities won't come on either. I don't know what I did wrong? Any ideas?

MelbourneFL

  • I suggest trying to flip the bulbs around and installing them. They may not be sitting properly. You can also apply a small amount of dielectric grease. This may help with the bulbs not turning on.

    Great Lights!

No issues with the lights. Perfectly lights up the interior. Not too bright to be obnoxious. I will suggest you get a very small flat head screw driver. Something like a 3/32 or smaller. This will help you install all the lights without damaging the surrounding plastic, which can easily be bent and turned a slight white. I also suggest a small pair of needle nose for the glove compartment light. Took me around 30 minutes for the install and I took my time. Test each install and just unhook the battery. Very simple and you wont blow a fuse.

    Great Improvement

This was a super easy kit to install. The only bulb that gave me trouble was getting the stock bulb out of the glove compartment, but I still wouldn't call it "hard to do" just tiny spot to get into. Biggest thing I always see getting in/out of the car are the map lights. these make the car feel so much more modern and throw out so much more, cleaner light without being blinding at night. The stock bulbs made the interior feel...old and dingy? I guess the best way to describe it. These new LEDs throw out that pure white, clean look.

Completely changes the look of the interior!

This was one of my first interior mods on my 2016 mustang. Installation was beyond easy and took no time at all. The longest part of the process was just getting the old bulbs out and even that took very little.

Nice but a little challenging to install

What started out as pretty easy turned into a pain in the butt. Mirror vanity bulbs are small and hard to get out/in. Need small hands. Overhead sockets popped loose resulting in my having to drop the pod from the ceiling and re-install them along with the bulb. Glove box fixture was the most accessible but a pain in the butt to get the existing bulb out and the new one in. Actually blew a 10Amp fuse on this one. FYI car uses "Micro" ATC style fuses. The trunk was somewhat easier but still a pain to drop the fixture and change the bulb. Overall the Raxiom kit is great. The design of the bulb fixtures/sockets by Ford leaves an awful lot to be desired. Hoping these LEDs last a while so I don't have to do this again! 3 Stars for fit but that's mainly on Ford. Good bright LEDs

Interior with this lighting kit is much improved over the stock bulbs. They're bright and whiten up the car, especially at night time. Bulbs are tight to put in so be careful not to do what I did and slip and spend 10 minutes looking for it under the seats.

    Super clean look

I would 100 recommend this to any S550 owner. It really changed the look of the interior for the better. The cool white light makes everything much easier to see at night. It was tricky to get the vanity lights and glove box lights out, but it was more than worth it. I did blow a fuse installing the glove box light because I touched the contacts with the screwdriver I was using, so be careful about that. Over all VERY satisfied!

LEDs seem nice, wish it had instructions.

The LEDs seem like they're decent quality. No instructions came with the kit. Which would be OK on older cars, but cars made in the last decade or so are a bit of a mystery on how to replace bulbs. There are videos by competing brand showing how to do it, but essentially: Map lights: Just pull down the map light assembly held on by two clips by pulling it from the rear. Vanity lights: Use a small, preferably dull, screw driver to pop the light cover off from the bottom edge of the light cover nearest the mirror's edge. Then unscrew two screws, close the vanity mirror and pull it off from the top. Glove Box: Pop open the glove box, then pop open the secondary hatch. Most instructions I found tell you to go fishing in the glove box, but opening the secondary hatch is the trick, makes the bulb easy to access. Trunk: Just pop a flat screw driver into the left side of the bulb assembly and pop it out. The other side has the wiring harness and wont pop out. Unplug the wiring harness, take the assembly out of the trunk and replace the bulb.

    Great! (Fuses Difficulty)

This is a great Product! it makes my 2015 GT 50 years look so much more appealing to me and my passengers. I would recommend this 100, although I did run into to some trouble when I got into the trunk and pulled the light from the assembly. apparently u need to unplug the connector cable from its power source or you will blow a fuse and the vanity lights, glove box and console the trunk light will not work without a new fuse. all in all this is a great mod for your 2015 S550. (when I locate what fuse this is I will post again )

    Good Purchase

These lights are the perfect brightness for the interior of the car and are a great change from the old "yellow" bulbs. The only thing i would say is, be very careful when changing the glove box light. I'd recommend disconnecting the battery when changing it, as i blew a fuse. If you do blow a fuse, the fuse in question is located in the inside fuse box near the passenger side and should a micro fuse (10A). Other than that, great purchase.
