    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys. Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here with the Redline Tuning Hood Quicklift Plus System for 2015 and up GT, Ecoboost, and V6 Mustangs. The Redline Tuning Hood Quicklift Plus System's gonna be a good option for anyone looking to delete the factory prop rod and clean up the engine bay. These have black, e-coated finishes, so they'll look nice on any car, and they're a simple product that makes a big difference under the hood. These are gonna create a cleaner appearance overall and they have much nicer look than the factory prop rod does. These are gonna be a good mod for those of you that show your car and that need that clean look but they're also a good mod for those of you out there that work under the hood a lot. I have a set of hood struts in my fox body and it's much easier to work under the hood when there isn't a hood prop in the way. So not only do these look good, they also have some good use as well. Redline offers two sets of Quicklift systems and they do have different prices. The difference is gonna be in the finish. So these ones are e-coated black and the other ones, the Elite System, have a stainless steel finish. They have the same features, just a little bit of a different look. So speaking of features, the hood struts are valved gas springs that have a progressive release system, so your hood isn't gonna just fly up or down. They have a controlled lift and the struts do slow as they get to the top of the lift to make things more progressive. And the mounting brackets are stainless steel. As far as price, you can expect to spend about $100 for this kit, and if you'd like to spring for the Elite kit, that's about $30 more. This is a complete kit, so you get the two struts, the fender brackets with the red inserts, the hood brackets, a plastic drill guide, and the drill bit as well to make things easier for you. So I mentioned drilling. Yes, you will need a drill for the install, but it's still a straight-forward install. These install using pre-existing holes in the top of the fenders and on the underside of the stock hood, so you don't have to drill into metal. You will need to drill a small hole in the plastic battery cover, but you do get a template and the drill bit, so it's not too bad. You can expect to spend an hour on the install and I'm going to call this a solid one on the difficulty meter. You do have to drill, but it's nothing big, and you are drilling into plastic, so really anyone can handle it. You need a 13 millimeter deep socket, an electric drill, and a center punch for the install and that's about it. You start by removing the top hinge bolt on the passenger side of the car so you can pull the bracket over the upper hinge bolt and then move to the left side of the car. The bracket installs the same way on this side. Next you'll need to position the plastic guide to mark the center of the hole for the battery cover with the punch that you have or you could just use the template to drill. If you follow the book, once the hole is marked, you're ready for drilling. It would be safest to take the battery cover off to drill, but we left it on and completed the install just fine. After that, you can install the fender brackets and then the hood struts. They just snap into place with the hood spring housing side facing the hood and the extension side on the fender. Wrapping things up here, the Redline Tuning Hood Quicklift Plus System offers two gas hood struts to replace the factory hood prop. The kit comes complete with everything that you'll need for the install, which is very easy and simple with no modifications required except for a small hole in the battery cover. You can check this kit out more online right here, at AmericanMuscle.com.

Deletes Factory Prop Rod. It is hard to believe that Ford still uses an old style prop rod to hold up the hood of their all new S550 Mustang. But now you can ditch that prop rod and add a clean appearance and modern convenience to your 2015-2017 Pony by installing a RedLine Tuning QuickLIFT PLUS Hood System.

Slow Release System. RedLine Tuning QuickLIFT PLUS Hood Struts use powerful custom-valved gas springs that feature a progressive release system. In the final few inches of operation the struts slow the rate of extension allowing for a smooth, fluid lifting process.

Complete Kit. The QuickLIFT PLUS system includes two black e-coated progressive-rate gas springs that will lift and hold your Mustangs hood securely in place. The kit also includes black powder-coated brackets with ball-stud end fittings and the necessary mounting hardware required for installation.

Straight Forward Installation. The QuickLIFT PLUS System installs utilizing pre-existing holes in the top of the fenders and on the underside of the stock hood, so no drilling into metal is required. However you will need to drill a hole into the plastic battery cover to access one of the holes on the fender. A template and a stepped drill bit is included for your convenience.

Application. This RedLine Tuning Hood QuickLIFT PLUS System is designed to fit all 2015 to 2017 Mustangs, including the V6, EcoBoost and GT models. Does not fit Shelby GT350's.

Please Note. These Hood Struts are not compatible on Non-US Spec Hoods.

      Almost there

Everything functions absolutely perfect. However, on the right side hood bracket the hole for the water line does not line up perfectly. In this day and age of computer exactness, this should never occur. But I adapted just fine with a nylon tie and we are off and running and no one is the wiser and it looks great.

Must be modified to fit 2017

These lifts work great on 2017 Mustangs but the passenger side hood bracket must be modified to align the holes for the window washer hose. File down the upper bracket where it contacts the hood hinge until the holes align. Lifts the hood safe and smooth. I highly recommended this product if you have the time and tools to tweak it.

      Will damage hood over time.

The quality and ease of installation is very good. The strut mount on the hood hinge is too far back causing a "tin canning" effect on the hinge mount surface (hood side). This is an aluminum hood. Aluminum will rapidly weaken with repetitive back and forth movement. Just my observation.

Passenger Side Bracket Doesn't Fit Right

Easy (mostly) install. I did have to perform some surgery on the passenger side bracket for it to fit around the hood mount and let the washer line fit into the hole. I used a Dremel and heavy duty cutting wheel to cut a notch in the Redline bracket from side to side about 1/8 inch deep where it's supposed to fit to the forward side of the hood mounting bracket. It didn't take long but the fit could certainly be better there. I painted where I cut the Redline bracket...again, not a big deal, but if I hadn't had some black spray paint handy, I would have been unhappy. All that said, the struts work very nicely once they were on.

      misleading

When you have a brand new 2017 Mustang, the last thing anyone should do is start drilling holes into any part of your brand new car to add an option, especially where it can be seen as not an OEM part. Either leave your hood stock, or install a quick lift system that requires NO holes drilled into your car.

      Not So Great

The overall quality and detailed instructions seemed great but my experience was not so great. Install seemed on track until I had to align the hood (top) bracket on the passenger side and it was off significantly at the top. In order to get the bracket to align properly I had to loosen both hood hinge bolts which resulted in my hood alignment being way off. I uninstalled both top hinge brackets, removed the hydraulic shocks and spent hours realigning my hood. I had planned on returning the product to American Muscle but now am afraid of fiddling with the removal of the bottom brackets and having the hardware end up dropping into the inner fender. Seemed like a great idea and now I regret the heck out of the effect of this $100 product on my $48,000 car with only 1800 miles. I wish I had just stuck with the factory prop rod. Note earlier in my career I worked as a mechanic for several years and own multiple muscle cars so I am not a rookie with this sort of install.

      So-so products

On my S197 I had a different brand of hood struts. For my S550 I thought I would try a different brand for less money. I rather regret that decision now. The passenger side is not cut right to fit the existing bracket and the washer hose does not fit in the provided hole. The install was very easy but the struts do not have anyway near as much resistance as other brands. If you do not lift the hood about a foot it will fall right back down. Once you lift it high enough, however it does open just fin. Do Not push it down or it will slam shut.

      redline hood struts

Does not fit a 2015 mustang GT ! Tried 2 different kit and always the same problem, the right side hood bracket will not fit the 2 holes. I would have to cut the right bracket to avoid the water hose hole, for the windshield washer AND EVEN THEN THE BRACKET WOULD BE OFF CENTER which would make it difficult to correctly install the struts. I have installed redline on my other Mustangs and never had any problems but this is not A.M. fault but redline.

Very easy install. Very clear and precise instructions. I don't know why this didn't come from the factory! Comes with a nice little piece to help you cut the battery cover exactly where you need to. Recommend to all.

      Works great

The installation was easy for these hood struts. I was concerned about opening/closing but they work well. Opening, they hold the hood up easily, and I'm confident it won't fall down. Closing, the initial effort is easy enough that there should not be any flex in the hood itself, but it closes slowly until about a foot or so before latching. At several inches above you can let it drop like normal, as if you still used a prop rod. Overall, I am happy with them.

Best Hood Struts for Your Mustang

I installed RedLine Hood Struts on my previous Mustang and never had any problems. I expect the same from these. As before, the installation was very quick and easy. The included instructions are clear and concise. RedLine went the extra mile and provided a 3/4 inch step-drill bit and drill guide. These are required to drill a hole in the plastic battery cover on the passenger side. I prefer the OEM look of the RedLine over other styles that use a large non-factory appearing upper mount. One word description: sleek.

      Great Product

What can I say? This Red line Hood Strut kit installed easily in about 45 minutes. If I had to do it again it would be under 30 as I was taking it slowly, didn't want to scratch anything :-) The fit is excellent and the operation is fantastic. The hood is soooo easy to raise now! Highly recommend this product.

      Great Product, Easy Installation

I'd recommend compressing the struts once or twice before installation. When I first tried to push the hood down, there was a lot of flex and some scary noise due to the struts being stuck open. Once they got going though, it was all smooth and quiet. Being tall, I also like how the hood is held open a bit higher than the prop rod as well. Overall installation was easy and fitment was bang on. Per other reviews, I also cut a slot in the battery cover all the way to the edge rather than just the hole so you can remove the cover without removing the strut.

Quick fix for the ugly hood rod

Clean looking install to replace the prop rod on my new mustang. Install went as described, instructions were okay, but the videos online give a better understanding. Had a little interference problem on the passenger hood bracket. Couldn't quite get it parallel. That was my only time delay, other than that a pretty quick install.
