The picture seems to show a pilot bearing included in the kit, but the part list doesn't. Does this kit include it, or do I need to order separately?

    • Hey Alex, So this clutch kit comes with both the pilot and throwout bearings

How is the throw-out bearing? I have had very bad luck with other throw-out bearings in the past and I don't want to repeat the same mistake.

    • The Spec Stage 1 Clutch (94-04 V6) is a awesome company who makes great clutches. You will not have a problem with this throw out bearing.

Does this kit come with a titanium throw out bearing?

    • The Spec Stage 1 Clutch does not come with a titanium throwout bearing. The throwout bearing is a high-grade steel, titanium would be too hard to seat to the fingers and would likely cause a squealing noise.

Do I have to replace the flywheel also?

    • Whenever you are replacing your clutch with an aftermarket, it's highly recommended to replace the flywheel as well with the same brand, as they will have the proper tolerance and clearances for smooth clutch engagement. You can resurface and use your stock flywheel, but the clutch can wear out prematurely as they are not made with the correct clearances for one another. If you have any additional questions, please give us a call!

      Smooth clutch

Putting it on was the easy part, torquing to spec and all, the transmission was a pain to get back in. But other than that it's a great clutch, would highly recomend you spend the money on a new clutch fork, pivot stud, clutch cable, quadrant, and firewall adjuster. Made the job a lot easier.

2000 Mustang V6 Spec Stage 1 Clutch Install

By far the best clutch I have ever installed on a Mustang. Took about 3 hours, great fit. We also changed out the clutch cable with an adjustable from AM and a new AL flywheel. Awesome feel, perfect bite. Drove it 500 miles then hammered it. Huge difference from stock.

      Defected and tried to return

It came defected and then when i went to return they send you over to spec which is no help at all because they say o our product is supposed Chutter like crazy and make your drivetrain sound like its going to come off and when you take it off to look at it it all ready has a lot of hot spots all over it in just under a half and hour and the clutch disc is chipped. Highly fount that very much it shouldnt brake its self. Put old one back in and it drives amazing so i will never buy spec again.

SPEC prefers to handle all their warranty issues directly. However, if you can send us a fax report regarding the defective clutch and detailing the problems, we can help get this taken care of for you. Give us a call with any additional questions!

Soft Clutch but great bang for your buck

Very, Very, Very soft clutch, not a fan of that but for a SPEC 1 you will get more than you paid for outside of such a soft clutch.

      MAJOR CHATTER

WAY TOO MUCH CHATTER FOR A MILD V6 CLUTCH. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL 5.0 CLUTCHES OTHER BRANDS WITH WAY MORE CAPACITY THAT HAD ZERO CHATTER. I installed this with a freshly surfaced flywheel, and drove it like a grandma for over 500 mile break in. Well it chatters like a MoFo when you are stopped and try to do an easy start. Trying to park the car, it chatters so much it feels like the car is going to fly apart from the shaking. Even part throttle shifts on the freeway chatter. It chatters with any less that half throttle. If you drive it like you stole it 24/7 I guess you wouldn't notice. But for a daily driver this is so bad I'm considering swapping it out and throwing it away. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Response from AmericanMuscle

Spec Clutches should be paired with a Spec Flywheel for proper engagement and no chatter. A resurfaced flywheel will install with the clutch, but the clearances may differ not being the same brand. This can cause the clutch to wear sooner than expected or cause chatter. I would recommend combining this clutch with a spec flywheel to see if that helps the problem. Also, when switching from a stock clutch to an aftermarket, a new clutch quadrant and cable is also highly recommended. Hope this helps!

      SPEC Stage1 V6 Mustang

I installed the Stage 1 clutch kit with a SPEC Billet Steel Flywheel. Alignment was was a slow process but everything fit snug and secure. One year later and several thousand miles now, the clutch performs and reacts just as it did day one. During the break in period the only thing noticed was a slight smell shifting into each gear while riding the clutch with higher RPM's. The kit has never slipped or reacted in any manner other than perfectly. In addition to the clutch and flywheel, AM sent me a Maximum Motorsports clutch quadrant, cable and adjuster that are top of the line. With proper installation, this kit can hold up to anything thrown at it for a long time. The way that it engages and operates is worth every penny.

      Nice action

Just had this clutch installed on my 2000 v6 5spd. The first thing I noticed was the significantly reduced pressure on the pedal, The second was how quickly it grabs the gear. To my humiliation, I stalled it out the first time I tried to engage 1st. Lol. I recommend this to all who are seeking a new clutch. It feels amazing once you ge the hang of it.

      SPEC Stage1 Clutch Kit

I had the Stage1 clutch kit installed at the Mustang shop at the same time as installing the SPEC Billet Steel Flywheel from AM. I could have installed it myself but after reading frequent complaints from others shortly after they installed their own, I went with my shop. The feel of the clutch while shifting is a lot different than the stock one. As I was getting accustomed to the feel the first few weeks this clutch quickly stuck and was solid. Its a very smooth transitioning clutch as it is released at any speed or RPM. Very smooth and gripping clutch. I consider it an outstanding quality clutch. I'm a fan. Very satisfied and strongly recommend it.

Do not waste your money on this clutch. I've had it in mine for about 7000 miles and it chatters like crazy. I'll never buy spec agian.

      Dont Know Yet

The clutch itself (along with the Spec flywheel I had installed at the same time) is 100 times better that the OEM clutch. Light as a feather diffrence. It catches at just the right spot. Only problem is I havent reached the 500 mile break in period yet so I havent been able to really test it yet. But I predict that I will be very happy and would buy again.

      Spec Stage 1 Clutch

This clutch grips amazingly hard for a stage 1 i swaped mine out because my release bearing was going so i went with this and a spec aluminum flywheel and the difference is awesome. I would recomend this to any v6 owner that wants more grip and a lighter pedal feel for faster launches.

      Good Clutch

This clutch is a pretty good deal. It does exactly what SPEC says it will do. However, you should be prepaired;when they say it has a low pedal pressure they arent kidding.... i thought i broke something because the pressure was so much slighter that the stock clutch.

      effing amazing.

my throwout bearing was bad causing a distinct whining noise when the clutch was not depressed, i decided to go for performance parts instead of stock replacements and let me tell you i am happy with the difference in performance, much smoother shifting and feels cleaner throughout the gears.
