    Review & Install Video

Hey, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my review of the SR Performance Billet Aluminum Vertical Links for the 2015 and '16 Mustang. The SR Performance Vertical Links are going to be for anyone that's looking to combat the wheel hop that's notorious with the S550s, without spending a ton of money. Generally speaking, the idea is the links are going to help stop the wheel hop through less spindle movement and a stiffer bushing for less deflection. I can tell just by looking at these on the table, that they're an upgrade over the stamped steel stock links. They're made from billet aluminum and have Delrin bushings, which are going to be stiffer than the factory bushings. These links don't look to me like they're going to flex under load like the stock links might, which is obviously a good thing in this case. Keep in mind that while these should work to significantly reduce wheel hop and keep the rear planted better, these are only one component of the IRS, and there are a handful of other pieces that you can look into. You can even start to get into things like lower control arms or cradle and diff bushings, or even lockouts, but these are still a good step towards eliminating the wheel hop and getting the rear more stable, allowing for harder launches and keeping the suspension more consistent, no matter what you're doing with your car. As far as price, these links are right in between one to two hundred bucks, which is on the less expensive side when we look at the other options on the site. If you'd like to spring for another brand, you're looking at between $200 to $300, or you could even go adjustable, but you can expect to spend around double if you go that route. So the install here is really pretty easy. The vertical link sits pretty much right behind the rear rotor, so you obviously have to pull your rear wheels, but you're basically looking at two bolts here. You'll need a few sockets, a hammer, and a torque wrench for sure. The only thing is sometimes it can be hard to get the bottom hole lined up, but I think it's actually kind of normal to have a little resistance when you're working on suspension and a pry bar can help you get things aligned so you can slide that bottom bolt in. Just something to have in the back of your head. Overall, this is a one-wrench install on our scale here and should take just about an hour to complete. Wrapping things up here, I think the SR Performance Vertical Links are a solid, budget-friendly way to start tackling some of the wheel hop that the stock IRS allows for. They're easy to install, they're billet aluminum, and they're rocking Delrin bushings. You can check them out more online here at AmericanMuscle.com

will this part mess with the turning any?

I am looking for parts to help with wheel hop on my 2017 PP GT MT-6 convertible mustang. I do not see that there is any designation for convertibles. Is this because the parts are not the same or do they also fit converitibles?. What is available for Convertibles?

        • These will indeed also work with convertible models.

After lowering my s550, is this a recommended upgrade to help with the new load on the stock vertical links? thank you

        • This part wouldn'tbe necessary after lowering your Mustang, however, we do recommend this part due to it helping with handling performance and this kit will also help eliminate wheel hop.

            Wow, major improvement over stock

These are just as good as other name brand vertical links. Take your time and keep the jack under the knuckle so you don't lost the angle when trying to align the bottom bolt. Definitely an improvement over the stock parts.

            No more HOP

So after installing my Seeda IRS subframe brace most of that HOP disappeared but still wanted a more firmer transfer of torque. So during my installation of Ford Performance GT350 half shafts the vertical links have to come off so would you put the stamped steel OEM vertical links back on, I thought so. So SR Performance lives up to its name and quality parts. The ole Black Coyote has a very solid transfer of power and increased torque now. Those Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 just love the installation.

            Vertical Links

Installed the vertical links with no problems. Very easy install even on jackstands. no nvh at all. Haven't been to the track to see if it has eliminated the wheel hope. Probably just one of several components to be replaced.

            Necessary Evil

Great Product and could tell the difference instantly in the rear end. For the price it's definitely worth it. HOWEVER,,,like many of the other reviews, it was a pain to install. It looks easy but getting the lower holes to line up was a pain that involved a lot of cussing. All the tricks on here from other post were tried and had no success. Took 2 hours on driver side, 1 hour on passenger side. Worth in in the end but the install sucked.

I was very pleased by the performance of these links. Just a slight squeak upon slow take off. That could go away after a Serrano amount of time though.

            Install can be tricky

The links appear to be high quality and very robust. If not for the online videos, I would have had a lot of problems installing them since the instructions are lacking. I fought with one side for well over an hour but after viewing some videos of competitive products, I finally got the lower bolt to line up. The other side was easier. I haven't been able to determine if wheel hop is reduced due to poor weather conditions but the rear end does seem firmer. I installed the BMR cradle lockout kit at the same time so that might account for the firmer feeling. The BMR kit was a breeze to install compared to the links.

The links work awesome install was a little tough could only fit 1 washer in with the links, it matters what side goes where after figuring it out only took about 30 min to install them

            Good Upgrade

Installed these vertical links along with the subframe brace, and it was like having a new car. Much more stable and can take off from the line smooth. These are a pain to get in place. I recommend stopping by a lubrication warehouse, and buying 55 gallons of lube to get them in place. You will need a jack to get them in. You may also need a bible, and many prayers. Good Luck!

            Poor fitment

Product looks great but upon install I found that both washers and the link would not go into the lower control arm mounting point under any circumstances. A dead blow hammer got me close but it was just too tight for the link and both washers. I've since purchased upr links and they were much easier to install.

These vertical links were a nice upgrade from stock took about 1 1/2 hrs my only complaint was washers were to thick could only use one washer on each side wish they would check that before shipping but they do the same job as more expensive ones.

This was supposed to be a 1 hr job, but ended up taking over three! Had to call AM support too,(no help there). Ended up having to take apart numerous connections to get these to fit. Still not sure if something is under undo load. Would not buy these again.
