Review & Install Video

Hey, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my review of the SR Performance Billet Aluminum Vertical Links for the 2015 and '16 Mustang. The SR Performance Vertical Links are going to be for anyone that's looking to combat the wheel hop that's notorious with the S550s, without spending a ton of money. Generally speaking, the idea is the links are going to help stop the wheel hop through less spindle movement and a stiffer bushing for less deflection. I can tell just by looking at these on the table, that they're an upgrade over the stamped steel stock links. They're made from billet aluminum and have Delrin bushings, which are going to be stiffer than the factory bushings. These links don't look to me like they're going to flex under load like the stock links might, which is obviously a good thing in this case. Keep in mind that while these should work to significantly reduce wheel hop and keep the rear planted better, these are only one component of the IRS, and there are a handful of other pieces that you can look into. You can even start to get into things like lower control arms or cradle and diff bushings, or even lockouts, but these are still a good step towards eliminating the wheel hop and getting the rear more stable, allowing for harder launches and keeping the suspension more consistent, no matter what you're doing with your car. As far as price, these links are right in between one to two hundred bucks, which is on the less expensive side when we look at the other options on the site. If you'd like to spring for another brand, you're looking at between $200 to $300, or you could even go adjustable, but you can expect to spend around double if you go that route. So the install here is really pretty easy. The vertical link sits pretty much right behind the rear rotor, so you obviously have to pull your rear wheels, but you're basically looking at two bolts here. You'll need a few sockets, a hammer, and a torque wrench for sure. The only thing is sometimes it can be hard to get the bottom hole lined up, but I think it's actually kind of normal to have a little resistance when you're working on suspension and a pry bar can help you get things aligned so you can slide that bottom bolt in. Just something to have in the back of your head. Overall, this is a one-wrench install on our scale here and should take just about an hour to complete. Wrapping things up here, I think the SR Performance Vertical Links are a solid, budget-friendly way to start tackling some of the wheel hop that the stock IRS allows for. They're easy to install, they're billet aluminum, and they're rocking Delrin bushings. You can check them out more online here at AmericanMuscle.com

    Wheel hop

Product looks better and stronger than stock but no reduction in wheel hop that I could tell. Waste of money. When installing the new one since it is larger, use a pry bar to move and tilt the knuckle to slide it in with ease.

    Not the best over time

I have had these vertical links installed for about 10,000 miles. They definitely did help along with my Steeda equipment to stiffen up the rear suspension. However, overtime they did not have the best wear characteristics. My biggest complaint is that the washers that mount into the lower control arm cause dissimilar corrosion. This leads to a very annoying squeak in the rear suspension, especially after rain. In my opinion, you would be better off buying a product made with a better materials. For the money, you get what you pay for. A lesson that I seem to learn over and over again.

    Made a huge difference

I order this part as well as a few other IRS Steeda bushings and the entire rear end is stiffened up. I had Ford install this part as well as a Roush Supercharger (Phase 2 727HP) and the car is planted. They made a huge difference and the technician stated that the car was stronger then the GT350. Can't go wrong. No more wheel hop and car is solid and feels more reliable.

    Good Upgrade.

I am upgrading all components of my suspension, so this was on the list. Far better product than factory. Install was a bit tricky. Slide from the top until both holes line up. Slightly tapped bottom bolt until all the way across; torque to spec. Other than that, quick and easy.

    Great product but terrible QC

After receiving my vertical links I immediately went to put them on. Get one side done in all of 30 min. Then I get to the other side. I get the lower end slid into the control arm and lined up. I go to push the bolt through and the threads simply won't catch. After an hour and a half of messing with it I decided to pull the link off and inspect the threads In the control arm. After review, everything looked fine. I then for some reason tried to slide the bolt through the bushing in the vertical link and what do you know? The bushing in the SR link was not machined properly and did not allow the bolt to pass all the way through. It was stopping it right at the edge. A quick drilling did the trick and it all bolted up fine. However, I am disappointed I had to do this in the first place. This definetly shows a lack of QC as all of the BMR equipment on my car fit perfectly. Either way it does seem to be a well made product. I'm just not sure how to get in touch with SR as they have no website or anything of the sort.

    SR vertical links

First of all thanks to AM for the fast delivery. The SR links are big and sturdy and look like a quality product when you receive. They went on in no time flat with everything fitting right in place. I don't spin my tires much but haven't noticed any wheel hop. A inexpensive up grade with very little effort. I do feel better knowing I have these in place of the small stock versions. I added SR springs while I was doing these and the car feels more balanced and rides great. SR is a great product and have used before on my 2005 Mustang Gt.

These are NOT plug and play!!!

The Vertical Links themselves are a huge upgrade from factory, but the install on my 2016 was a bit of a pain. The instructions are lacking quite a bit, as they only give the very basics like remove bolt and reinstall... The washers supplied were slightly too thick and getting the links to start in the already tight space was not as easy as one would like. There was a substantial amount of struggle required. The alignment was not the issue as it the factory pieces would go in and out with ease. 1) Better instructions w/troubleshooting tips. 2) Better QC. in regards to fitment. Though install was a pain, approx. 2 hrs, I still like the upgrade and would recommend these over the much higher priced alternative options, especially if you are budget minded. It's a decent product for the Price!

    Reduced Wheel Hop

Took me about 2 hours to install the toe links cause the first one did not want to get in place. But when it was in it was in. When installing you should use a hammer and a thick block of wood to knock it into place. When I did that for the second side it took me 15 minutes. All in all. The Mustang hooks up great. Dropped it down to second put my foot to the floor and all I felt was the car honing and going. No more wheel spin. Great product. I recommend this tip anyone looking to get rid of wheel spin but wants to save money.

Can really notice a difference but not much the car is more solid they help a lot though I will say this put the bottom on first I put the top on first and couldn't get the bolt to line up on the bottom so I put the bottom on first started the bolt then used a pry bar to lift the top part In place and put the bolt through shouldn't take long if you do it that way
