Review & Install Video

Hey, Stephanie with americanmuscle.com, and this is my quick breakdown of the Whiteline transmission mount bushing insert available for the MT-82 6-speed transmission that is found on all 2011 to '14 Mustang GTs. Whiteline is a performance suspension company whose number one goal is to activate more grip in your ride, thanks to products like sway bars, Watts link kits, and other suspension components. They also specialize in designing and producing cutting edge bushing technology, thanks to synthetic elastomer material. We've used a few of Whiteline's products in the past. In fact, if you'd like to see more detailed product breakdowns along with project cars, well, then you guys should know what to do by now. Click the link below and subscribe to our YouTube channel, if you haven't done so already. Now, if you have a manual Coyote, then chances are you've already run into some of the common issues, such as high RPM lockout or lockout during aggressive cornering. This is due to the stock transmission mount and soft rubber bushing, allowing for excess transmission movement when the car is being pushed hard or when you're really trying to bang gears. This bushing insert from Whiteline eliminates the excessive play by filling small voids, strengthening the mounting location, and eliminating the high RPM issues altogether. The bushing insert itself is made from Whiteline's signature synthetic elastomer which usually does a great job of reducing noise, vibration, and harshness. I say usually, because in the case of this bushing insert, you may notice a little bit more noise inside the cabin. In fact, now is a great time to head back to the product page if you aren't there already to see what some of the customers have to say about running this bushing insert in their own ride. As far as installation goes, the site calls for two hours on this one, but a number of our customers have stated that it only takes an hour or less. This is an installation that takes place under the car, so make sure you have your jack and jack stands ready, or a lift if you're lucky enough to have access to one. Of course, detailed install instructions are available on the product page, and you can always feel free to reach out to a Mustang expert should you have any questions. If you're looking to improve the shifting situation in your MT-82 equipped GT then be sure to check out the Whiteline bushing insert available here at americanmuscle.com.

Reduce Vibration. Whiteline's Positive Shift Kit also known as a Transmission Mount Bushing Insert fits neatly into the stock rubber mount to reduce driveline vibration and deflection when your banging through the gears.

Quality Construction. This Whiteline Transmission Mount Insert is crafted from low compliance synthetic rubber which is much more durable than natural rubber to give you years of trouble free driving.

Application. The Whiteline Positive Shift Kit (Transmission Mount Bushing Insert) is specifically designed for use on the 2011 to 2017 GT or BOSS Mustangs equipped with MT-82 manual 6 speed transmission and the 5.0L Coyote motor.

Does this work in conjuction with the Barton shift-throw shifter and shift bracket or is this a replacement for the bracket?

Talonderiel

  • Yes, it will work fine. This is for the transmission mount. It will keep the trans in proper alignment, which will give your new shifter bracket something much more solid to work from.

    Butter-shifts

The install was super simple and easy. I got it done in my garage with the car on jack stands. It took me about ten minutes. The difference in the shift from 2nd to 3rd at high RPM is night and day. I am using the stock shifter and it is so much nicer now with this part. The only drawback is the increase in NVH. I expected this to increase but it vibrates through the floor pan like crazy when I accelerate hard and I can even feel it through the steering wheel. It's no big deal on the track but on my daily driver I have a feeling that it is going to get old really quick. We'll see.

    Excellent product for the price.

For guys that miss shifts from second to third this mount is for you. Longest part about the install was jacking up the car. Easy 10 minute install after that. Alot of guys said they got NV i didn't gain any at all. Car goes in gear easier in every gear and when banging from second to third is so much better. I really recommend this product for someone looking for a cheap part for there car.

    Huge difference

Super easy to install and the difference in the drive line is amazing. Takes all the slop out and no more missing gears. Decreased the extra noise that I had from installing short shifter. Awesome product.

    Adds NVH

The part works as described. I installed the part and it definitely helps with shifter feel. The only downside is it adds NVH. Which is to be expected. If you install it and don't like the extra noise I have heard of people taking a small hole saw and cutting out a piece of the large lower section or cutting it off completely while still improving shifter feel.

    Simple Part, Extraordinary Results

Ok, so let’s set the stage here that will form the basis for my review of this great product: I am a 55 year old Grandpa but when I get behind the wheel of my 13 Mustang GT with Track Pack I morph into “John Force” and although I don’t track race the car, I’ll drag race the heck out of folks at red lights. Occasionally, under heavy load, I’d have a problem shifting from 2d to 3rd if I didn’t delay that shift by an extra second. When you’re trying to beat down a Camaro and that happens, it can be embarrassing. To help remedy this and discover a solution I took to You Tube, consulted the AM staff, and decided to get both the Whiteline Transmission Mount and the Barton Two Post Shifter bracket (I wanted to keep my stock shifter). The transmission mount took some coaxing but eventually went in when grease was applied. I noted there were some complaints regarding excessive NVH as a result of the transmission mount. A test drive after installation confirmed this but in my opinion this is all useful sensory information when driving the car hard and most importantly – no missed / locked out gears no matter how hard I pushed the car! Thanks to AM, I have nearly all the bolt-on power adders you can buy, along with a Bamma 93 Octane Race Tune installed on my NA Mustang. Camaros beware!!

    Best $31.32 I ever spent!

I cannot believe what a dramatic difference this simple part makes. It works exactly as advertised. I am stunned .The shifts are positive, and smooth. It feels like a different shifter. I read the comments about increased NVH after installation. I did not notice any increase. However prior to installing . I did trim about 1/4" off the flat center section prior to installing as many suggested so that may be why. I suspect that if it is not trimmed the center section which protrudes from the back the mount and contacts the crossmember causing the increase in NVH. Installation was simple, I installed it on my back in my garage with a floor jack and jack stands. It took less the an hour. Greasing the bushing before installation is a must. Great Mod. Highly recommended!

best bang for buck til new shifter...

The dreaded mt82 shifting lockout. I read online this would be the quick fix till I purchased an mgw shifter. Cheaper too. Seems to be working so far and very easy to install. People have complained about NVH but haven't really noticed tbh. I drive 2013 boss 302 w/ the sidepipe baffles removed so probably covers it up a lot.

    Must have mod.

Modifying the insert by cutting off the bottom tab and installing it in the transmission mount was a breeze. Even on ramps. If you have access to a lift even better yet. The bushing insert, the Ford Racing/Barton short throw shifter and the two post shifter bracket makes the MT82 trans as good as it going to get. Shifts may still be slightly notchy (mostly when trans is cold) but you will never miss a shift again no matter the RPM's or curve your on. With the bottom tab cut off you will not feel any vibration at the floorboard or steering wheel. There is a slight increase in sound that makes it feel like you swapped out the exhaust. Don't hesitate this is a must have mod even on a daily driver.

BROUGHT A SMILE TO MY FACE!

I do a lot of research on any product I add to my 2014 GT. Installation took about 15 minutes using my ramps. Interestingly, the issue of NVH was minimal. It actually reduced some of the noise from my Ford Racing Short Throw Shifter. I only felt a little vibration in 2nd and 3rd gear between 2000 to 3000 rpm. But, when I test drove it...........WOW! Best functioning stick shift I have ever owned; and I have owned more than 10. 100% perfect, hard throw, hammer down, flawless! If the minimal NVH bothers you, maybe you should be driving something else.

    Shifts are noticeably smoother

Ordered this product because I continuously got locked out of gear at 7200+ RPM shifts. This insert for the trans mount helped out quite a bit. Installation was about 20 minutes including the time it took to jack the car. Once in, even just driving, casual shifts were a bit more solid and smooth. It did help to get me in gear at 7200 RPM, but I have already ordered motor mounts which will help solve the problem further. For what you pay, this item is a great improvement. Keep in mind that NVH slightly increased, most noticeably around 2100 RPM. For me, the sound was an added bonus. After all, its a Mustang.

Works, but not for the street

I purchased this after reading an article in a Mustang publication. Very simple to install and it DID make the shifting more positive. HOWEVER, in the article it says you get some NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness). The first time I drove it after installation, it vibrated the car as if I had a bad u-joint in the driveshaft. Not worth it for daily driver. Great for racing.

    Must have mod

After buying my 12 GT over a year ago, I've had many denials into gears both while driving and trying to get into first gear at stops. I did some researching and everyone recommended a short throw shifter so that's what I bought. I bought the MGW shifter which replaced everything. It helped to a degree and brought the benefits of a STS but still got denials. I just lived with it for a couple months not knowing what to do. I saw this product and figured I would give it a try. Well it's simply amazing! Everything just clicks right into gear. No more denials in any gear or at any speed! This insert is definitely a must have mod, even before a STS! Install was pretty easy as well! I can't comment on any added NVH from the mount because I put on new Dunlop z2's at the same time so they add noise as well. Hitting all my shifts is definitely worth it.

    mod of tranny bushing

ok read lots about this piece doing its job but adding some un wanted NVH. So I cut 1/2" off the length of the rectangular middle section and then drilled 5 holes in the middle section length wise. I then greased up the unit and into all the holes. It slid right in and made a nice differance with the noise i heard from my Barton Shift bracket install. It really quieted the mechanical linkage noise and made the shifter feel very smooth and direct. No more missed 2nd to 3rd shifts and it just feels solid! SEE PICTURES
