Justin from AmericanMuscle.com, we're here with Chris Thompson from Airaid. He stopped by the shop to tell us a little more about these great Airaid products. We're very familiar with Airaid; we use them on our project cars with great success. Chris, what can you tell us about Airaid that makes it so unique? "Everything we do is digitally designed. It's engineered to fit, it's engineered to work, it's engineered to work without any special tuning. Now, tuning is much, much better. You guys offer a lot of great choices in aftermarket tuning. It'll only enhance the performance of the Mustang. We design our intakes so there's no special gluing required, there's no cutting or hacking of the engine required. If somebody decided to put a stock intake back on, they don't have to go back to Ford to buy another part to put the piece back on. Every intake we do is digitally designed. It's all about the design of the airflow and the linear charge to the throttle body. We use the rotational molding not so much for the heat soaking, but for the shape of the tube we can come up with. By using the rotational molding, it allows us to really give the right shape and form to make sure the product works well." We're very excited—we've got our 2013 Mustang here, probably not even 10 miles on this thing yet, and we already have an Airaid intake on it. Tell us a little more about that. "This is awesome. We're really excited to be here today. This is the first Airaid intake on a 2013 Mustang. We're really excited to be here with you guys. As you can see it fits. We know for sure it fits. We believe we have a hit. We'll do a little bit more testing on it before we release it to the public, but that should happen anytime now." Now, you were telling me earlier, you're working with some legends in the Mustang world. "Well, we're excited about working with Parnelli Jones and his son PJ. Parnelli's been instrumental in helping us come along with the Boss 302 intakes we're trying to develop. Nobody knows the heritage of the Boss 302 better than Parnelli Jones. We worked with PJ on the side by side utility vehicles (Razors, Rhinos, and TRX's). We also sponsored him in the past on his endeavors in the American Le Mans Series, which he ran last year." Chris, thank you so much for educating us on your great Airaid products. And as always, you can find those great Airaid products right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Increase Horsepower and Torque. Airaid Cold Air Intake Systems are computer designed to give your engine maximum air flow, which translates to more horsepower, torque and better fuel efficiency. This Airaid CAI kit completely replaces your 2010 GT Mustangs restrictive factory air box and paper filter element with a high flow Airaid filter assembly for an increase of more horsepower and more torque at the rear wheels.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the 2010 GT Mustangs, the Airaid CAI does not require a computer re-tune when installed with the included "Modular Venturi Tube". The Modular Venturi Tube (MVT) can be removed for off-road use when combined with a custom tune. By utilizing state of the art computer-aided designs, Airaid Intake Systems offer unmatched fit, finish, and power!

Superior Filtration. Each cold air intake provides superior air filtration, since it includes an Airaid Premium Filter with SynthaFlow® technology. SynthaFlow® is a synthetic nano-fiber material that traps the smallest dirt particles that ordinary cotton-gauze “performance” filters just can’t capture. Airaid Premium Filters, with SynthaFlow® can capture particulates down to 2 microns in size. And best of all Premium Filters are washable and re-usable saving you money.

Application. This Airaid Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed to fit the 2010 4.6L GT Mustangs and does

not require re-tuning the vehicles computer when installed with the included "Modular Venturi Tube".

Is it still beneficial to get a tune with this intake? I'm not planning on getting the intake and tuner at the same time, so if I want to tune it sometime in the future, should I go ahead and get the intake that requires a tune?

RussellN

  • Yes, it is beneficial to use a tune with this intake, especially this intake in that it has the venturi option when not using a tune on the vehicle, it is not advised to get an intake that requires a tune and not get a tuner, the vehicle would have issues running and have an extreme loss in power.

Does it fit with the Moroso Expansion tank? Has anybody used this with the Moroso aluminum coolant expansion tank? The Moroso tank is a slightly different shape on the corner closest to the intake tube. I have about 3/8" clearance between that corner of the Moroso tank and the stock intake tube.

RobLINY

  • Yes this Airaid Cold Air Intake will fit with the Moroso Coolant Expansion tank.

    Great first mod

I installed this as the first real mod to my car. I've seen a slight improvement in the mid range RPM on the car and even into the upper end. I've now run 2 full tanks of fuel through my car and was at 210 miles to a tank and then this last one about 245...so it seems like I've got a nice improvement in fuel econ. Not huge, but worth the $ and the time spent installing. If you're not a "wrencher" this is something you can easily do at home in less than 2 hours (proper tools req). Overall a great deal and makes the car even sound different. Don't hesitate. Put it on your build list and get it when you can.

    Amazing!!

Well first off I would like to thank AM for the amazing service in shipping. I ordered it yesterday and I received it today! Second off I was skeptical of buying air raid because I've heard good and bad. Let me tell you this product has exceeded my expectations you notice the gains on the high end which is great. I haven't had it long enough to say anything about MPG improvement.

    Airaid elephant trunk!

Man this thing sucks in the air. It was easy to install I'd say 30 minutes to put it all together and get the stock one out. I chose to delete the sound tube and it came with caps for that. As soon as I turnd the car on it roared, the exhaust was louder, I didn't expect that. Then when I took it for a spin I could hear it sucking in the air. At high rmps it has kind of a whistle like a super charger. I don't have a tune yet so I installed the insert that will be taken out in a week when I get the tuner. I could feel the difference. From take off there was a bit of a lag like the car was taking a deep breath and then wham the car took off. I then went on the highway. Did pulls from 40-60, 60-80 and 80-100 and the car pulled hard and fast, the rpms seemed to rocket up. My tuner is on the way and I can take out the insert to get even more air flow, I can't wait!!! This is an excellent buy and good price compared to some and with the option to have our not have a tune was awesome. I haven't been able to see if there is a mpg savings as of yet, I can't keep my foot out of it ha!!!

    Quality Product, Perfect Fit!

This is a well-built CAI and a great value. The most time consuming part of the install was removing the stock CAI. The fit was absolutely perfect! I really like the fact that the resonator tube delete comes with it, although I chose to re-install mine. I also really like the fact that no tune is needed but I look forward to getting the most out of this CAI when my tuner comes in. Bottom line, I would pull the trigger on this CAI if you're looking for a bit more performance at an affordable price!

Straightforward install. Good bang for the buck

This was a quick install. Instructions were good. Pictures could have been better, but they were adequate. Anyone with time and a few basic tools should be able to do the install well. The performance gain is noticeable, but it is not dramatic. The engine sounds a bit more aggressive, and there seems to bless lag when punching the gas. overall it was fun and easy. We would do it again without a doubt.

    All smiles

The instructions on AM's website made it an easy install in about 1.5 hours. I had an '03 GT and it had a really deep engine/exhaust tone that my '10 GT didn't. After I installed the air intake, it was like listening to my '03 again! Received a ton of compliments on the intake too. It's worth it.

    Better results than the Steeda

I had a Steeda intake and Steeda tune, and my 2010 Gt did not respond well to it. Would have pretty crazy rpm fluctuations, and rough driving. Installed the AirRaid with my Steeda tune for the stock air box, and the car runs great, now I just need to get a tune for the AirRaid CAI. This CAI fits like it should have been on the car from the factory. I also love that it comes with a sound tube removal kit.

The Airaid product was one of the finest quality products that I have ever purchased.

The Airaid system was a high quality product. From the minute I opened the box to retorfit my 2010 Mustang, I was amased by the integrity of the parts and cohesiveness of the instructions. Every part fit to profection, no trimming or filing of parts and the stepy by step instruction where in harmony with by Mustang. The parts were high quality and the step by step instuructions were detailed and and completely in sync to the fine detail.

    Great Intake!

I bought this intake pretty much as soon as it hit the market for my 2010 GT. The option to delete the Venturi tube was great (I hated that gurgle noise you get with an aftermarket intake in the lower RPMs) and installation was very easy. It felt like it opened up on the top end when you stuck the pedal to the metal. Definitely worth the purchase for your 2010 GT (probably best n/a intake on the market for our 4.6's) and it looks great under the hood, too!

Great product not so great install

The intake looks amazing under the hood and I can deffinatly feel and se an improvement in throttle response and gas mileage. The only think keeping this intake from 5 stars in the installation. The instructions are not very well put together and it's a tight fit. But other then that it looks and performs amazing! I reccomend. Just be prepared to be a little frustrated on install.
