Review & Installation Video

Justin: Hey everybody, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. I'm here and we're at our local drag strip, MIR, with our 2015 EcoBoost Mustang. Now the whole premise of today is to do some more real-world testing with the help of the Bama Performance team. Now our goal, take our bone stock 2015 automatic EcoBoost with the exception of a drag radial, run it down the track a few times, get some baseline numbers with this car, then pull it into the pits, install an Airaid cold air intake system, a Bama tune and then re-run it and see what time we've actually shaved off. Now it should be a great day for racing here. We've got some nice cool air. So let's get this thing to the line and see how it does. 13.64 at 98. It's nice, cold air out here and these turbo cars love that cold air. So for a stock car, that's pretty respectable. So I guess now we'll just get it in the pits. All right Mike from Bama Performance is pulling double duty for us here today. He just installed the Airaid cold air and now he's in the car working on the tune. Mike, what can everybody expect using a tune here on the EcoBoost? Mike: Well, with the EcoBoost with the turbo, we're going to focus on some boost, obviously. We're going to run the car at about 2200 psi, whole boost all the way through so it doesn't drop off. Spent a lot of time on the throttle. Factory is only about 40%. We want to hold it open a lot longer, especially on full throttle. Adjust the shift pressure so we can get better shifts. We're also going to spring-boost it a little quicker even on part-throttle, so a whole lot of changes. Justin: Nice. I mean, well, I'm interested to see how these changes affect our performance, so finish up with that tune, man, let's get this thing in line. Mike: You got it. Justin: All right, guys. So, a 12.9, 103. I mean, there you go, right intake and the tune, the Bama tune is doing its job. Paul: I'm really happy. That's why we like coming to the track. So we can take a look at the data logs in a real-world environment, revise that track tune and get the best time out of it. Justin: There you go. Real-world testing for you guys. A nice, easy mod, a tune and you're shaving off more than a half of a second and picking up some mile-an-hour on the quarter-mile. So, that's it. We're out of here. It's dark. They're kicking us out. But for all things Mustang, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Ask a Question

What are the advantages and disadvantages to having the Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake w/ SynthaMax Dry Filter vs the oiled filter?

Kevin

  • This would really depend on what you do with the car. Oiled filters would be more for the everyday driver and the dry filter will be more for track days.

I have The Ford Performance Tune Kit for the Ecoboost and While that works fine and all; I would very Much rather Have This Air-box versus the GT350 Air box that comes with the FRPP Tune kit. Can use the Airaid MXP cai with the FRPP Tune or will it cause the ecu to throw a code or be restrictive in any way?

Tdagaknight

  • The ford performance tune is only meant to work with the ford performance intakes, separate tunes would be required for another intake. This would include; a Bama tuner, or VMP tuner to use with the Airaid MXP Cold Air Intake.

    Good Air Intake

Installed the product in about 35 mins, it was super easy to do, the throttle response got better, gas mileage actually got a little worse, but it sounds great!

Installing the Airaid Cold Air Intake kit

My son and I removed and installed in about 1 hour. Fairly easy to remove the factory intake, but installation was a little tricky. The directions said to install the filter housing first and then the tube, but we tried that and had to remove the new filter housing and build from the bottom of the engine to the top.

    Took awhile, but worth it

Ordered item for my wife's '16 Ecoboost as Xmas present. When pkg arrived, no instructions or hardware (bolts, clamps, etc.) were included. Airaid's fault as the box wasn't securely taped and sealed. American Muscle promptly replaced the original with a new CAI, no questions asked. Outstanding customer service from Jeff L. Installed in 1.5 hrs, using regular hand tools and taking my time and double-checking my work. Hints: bolt holding factory airbox is 10mm not 6 as instructions state. Leave the Airaid airbox loose until the new intake tube is attached at the turbo and at the airbox. This makes it easier to get correct fitment for all the parts before tightening clamps. Double-check that new airbox is fitted correctly to the car's air inlet behind the grille. Airaid CAI is top quality throughout and instructions are easy to follow. Just installed Mishimoto cat-back exhaust also ordered from AM, so between it and the new CAI, I estimate a modest gain of about 3-4 HP. Long drive to nearest dyno, so have to estimate. Very satisfied with both the Mishimoto exhaust system and the Airaid CAI. Would recommend either or both if you're looking for a modest HP gain for your Ecoboost Mustang.

    Easy bolt on Horsepower:

This should be everyone's 1st mod. Easy bolt on installation for added horsepower. The intake is also one good looking piece of equipment. The 1st thing I noticed was a smother acceleration at regular speed. Plus increased fuel milage. The next thing was the pickup and narle sound when throttling up. I love it. You will too.

Nice Addition to the Ecoboost Mustang

Product was easy to install. I installed myself in about an hour and this is the second mod I've done. You definitely feel the improvement in performance especially in sport mode. I paired this CAI with the Outlaw axle-back exhaust and now I'm ecstatic with the setup!

    Easy and Everything I Expected

Recieved the product quickly and in great shape. Installation was a breeze even for a non wrencher as myself. I could tell the difference almost immediately. The sound of the turbos became far more apparent, and the car seemed to gain some more life to it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Amateur modder, was able to install myself

This is the first mod I've ever done on a car, and was able to do by myself in a couple of hours with the help of YouTube. If I was a regular modder, this would have been a piece of cake, and would have had it done in under an hour. In the Ecoboost, this part is particularly easy to install, since the small engine gives you PLENTY of space to work with. I have yet to put it on the dyno or add a tune, so I don't have info on any performance gains yet. The inclusion of a glass cover on top of the filter is a huge bonus over other intakes.

    Airaid CAI Bama Tune

Wow - what a difference the Airraid CAI and the Bama Tune made to my EB 2015 Mustang! The car seems like a different car. The shifts were the first thing I noticed. Now that I have had it on the car for awhile, I have noticed the power coming on so quickly now. Passing another car is just so fun! This is a definite MUST upgrade if you own a 2015 Ecoboost Mustang!

Good product, no noticeable performance difference

Not sure if it's my inexperience but I honestly haven't seen too much difference in performance. I plan on implementing a tune in the near future however the only difference I've noticed is a decline in fuel economy. It does sound awesome though. Definitely a much more noticeable air flow sound. Not dissatisfied though. Installation was easy but make sure your clamps aren't too tight when connecting the bigger hoses. I had a really hard time with them just because the clamps were a tad too tight.

Car sounds a little better for a 4 cyl. , lol. This unit looks awesome under the hood and fits perfectly. Highly recommend.
