Hey guys, I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and today I have two different throttle body options from BBK Performance. I’m taking a look at the 70 and 75mm throttle body for the 4.6L V8 found in all 96-04 Mustang GTs. BBK is one of those companies that lives and dies on Mustangs and late model EFI performance, and it shows with all their quality parts, including these throttle bodies. Now both of these options would be a huge upgrade over the ultra restrictive 56mm factory throttle body. Now depending on your setup either the 70 or 75mm throttle body might work out a little better for you, but that all depends on your mods. The 70mm version will be great for those of you with mild bolt-ons, you know, intakes, header, exhaust, those sorts of things. Now this would be a great complement to those mods, and free up any additional power being held back by an ultra restrictive factory throttle body. The larger 75mm version is geared towards more of a radical setup – big cams, nitrous, high compression or forced induction, that would need maximum airflow. Both of these throttle bodies are CNC’d from high quality aluminum alloy and feature beefed up components that will only add to the longevity and quality of these throttle bodies. Neither of these throttle bodies require a tune but it’s always recommended to make the most out of any additional mods. Installing these new throttle bodies is very straight forward and should only take you about an hour. All you have to do is remove the factory throttle body, transfer the TPS sensor over to the new BBK throttle body, using the included gasket. After that, reinstall the new BBK throttle body and you should be good to go. So if you’re looking for more ways to help your 2 valve 4.6 breath a little easier, and you’ve already taken care of the basics, then you’ll definitely want to check out these throttle bodies from BBK Performance.

Lost bottom end power
Installed the 70mm throttle body, took 20 minutes or so. Car ran fine but I noticed I lost some low end power but gained more top end power after 3,000 rpms. Took it back off. I wouldn't waste your money on this product.Helpful (0)

This is a must have mod for any 4.6 mustang. It's a huge improvement from the stock throttle body. You'll definitely notice the huge difference especially in the higher RPM.Helpful (7)

Got this 70mm throttle body along with a bbk cold air induction!! Took about an hour to install. Completely amazed with the increase of HP, low end torque and even the sound in the stock exhaust!! Throttle response was also increased!! My Pony can breathe and it shows!!!Helpful (7)

Installation was easy. Timed it and had it done in 20 min. Just don't get so excited that you forget to put the throttle cable back on like I did. It's small and falls out of the way-oops. Performance wise-nice and smooth especially on the top end. Better gas mileage. Why didn't I do this sooner! BBK is good stuff!Helpful (7)
It looks like this throttle body is CARB certified, but only for 96-01 models. Does this mean my 02 GT wouldn't pass smog in California with this installed? If that's the case, are there any 70mm throttle bodies available that would pass smog on my 02 GT?
The BBK 70mm Throttle Body (96-04 GT) will have a CARB EO number for 96-01 Gts however for the 2002 and up it will not pass CARB regulations. However we do not carry any throttle bodies that will meet CARB regulations for a 2002 GT.
Upgrading to a 70mm throttle body If I purchase a 70mm throttle body, do I have to do any tuning after installation? Also , should I upgrade the MAF sensor as well? Thanks Peter
You can upgrade to this 70mm throttle body without needing a tune or upgrading the MAF. That said, you would see the best performance gains when combined with a tune. Hope this helps!
Can this throttle body fit onto any CAI
Will this perform better than the SR Performance 70mm TB? What are the differences?
You can expect the same gains from each 70 mm option, however, the BBK is also CARB legal for 96-01 models where the SR would not be CARB certified.
When will this throttle body be awarded the CARB# for my 2004 GT? California resident
Unfortunately we have not received any information on if this part will be made CARB legal. We recommend reaching out to the manufacturer
A larger plenum would not be required with this but would overall increase the performance.
This throttle body will not work with that elbow. It would use a 90mm Foxbody throttle body, such as this one: https://www.americanmuscle.com/90mm-race-throttle-body.html
The BBK 70mm Throttle Body will not require aftermarket headers no.
This BBK 70mm Throttle Body will not fit a 2010 GT, this one is built for use with 96-04 GTs
Hi, This throttle body is not CARB legal for 2002-2004 Mustangs.
If your Mustang only has a few bolt-on mods, then it's likely the 78mm Throttle Body is too much. Without a heavily modified engine or FI, there isn't enough air flow to benefit from such a large TB (the 78mm). The 70mm Throttle Body is more than enough for any mild to moderately modded Stang and should help correct the issue you described. Hope this helps! If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to give us a call!
Yes, I would change the plenum as well. American Muscle sells a combo kit with a larger plenum and throttle body
