    Hi I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is our breakdown of BBK’s tuned length shorty header, available in your choice of either ceramic or chrome for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. So why would you want to use a set of shorty header versus a set of long tubes? Well in a nutshell, a shorty header is a great entry level header. For one, they’re generally less expensive than a set of long tubes, and they’re going to be easier to install thanks to the fact that you don’t have to modify your mid pipe like you would using long tubes. A shorty header might not make as much power as a set of long tubes, but it’s still going to be a solid upgrade over those cast iron factory manifolds. These particular headers feature what BBK refer to as their tuned length runner design, which basically makes them a hybrid between a long tube and a standard shorty header. In the end, BBK claims slightly more power using these headers versus your standard shorty design, while still maintaining a no modification needed, direct bolt on. Taking a closer look at these headers, you’ll see they feature 1 and 5/8” mandrel bent tubing for better flow, and laser cut flanges for an OEM like fit. As I mentioned before you do have the option of picking these shorties up in either a ceramic coating, or a chrome finish. So what are the differences going to be between the two finishes? For one you can see the chrome finish is a little brighter now, but that’s going to change as these headers heat cycle, turning that bright silver chrome color into a more copperish blue color. However, the ceramic coated headers will stay that bright silver color over the years. Secondly, that ceramic coating is going to be much better at reducing underhood temps, which is always better for performance. Those added benefits do come at a price as ceramic coated headers are generally more expensive than chrome headers, or even stainless steel headers. Doing the install on any set of headers can be a little intense, so it’s a great idea to leave yourself a full day, just in case anything goes wrong. As always if you don’t feel confident with the install, don’t be afraid to give your local shop a call, they should be able to help you out.     Quality BBK Construction. BBK Shorty Tuned Length Headers are manufactured from 1-5/8" CNC mandrel bent tubing for unrestricted airflow. And feature one piece laser cut 3/8" header flanges for additional strength, leak-free performance and a OEM fit. These headers are then completed in a bright chrome finish for good looks and a long life.

    Application. Designed as a direct bolt on, these BBK Shorty Tuned Length Headers will bolt straight up in the stock location to the factory Mid-Pipe without any modifications on both automatic and manual 2005 to 2010 GT and 2008 to 2009 Bullitt Mustangs to improve exhaust flow and sound.

    How much power gain ? How much would this give you in HP. I have an 06 Mustang GT with the Pypes Pype Bomb, and Cut and clamp X pipe. With a K&N CAI,

    • I installed these along after already having FRPP intake manifold, C&L CAI and Borla cat-back. Once these where on i did notice much more response to throttle input and that is currently on a 91 tune.

    Chrome vs Ceramic coated headers. How much under the hood heat difference can you expect to see between chrome vs ceramic?Will chrome headers be any hotter than the stock manifolds and create problems for other componets (EX: hose,tubes or plastic boxes or parts).

    Shorty Headers and Cut and Clamp X pipe. Hiya, I have the Pypes cut and clamp X pipe on with Pype-Bomb Axle Back Exhaust. Will the BBK Shorty Headers install without problem? Any expected HP Gains? Thanks!

    • Ignore the people who say that shorty headers make no gains. They have probably never driven a car with them installed. To be sure, long tubes make MORE power, but those who say shorties make no difference have not seen the dyno charts that show that shorties make as much as 20HP along the curve. It's just that they do not add to peak HP that they think they have no power. I have the BBK Tuned Length headers and they made a huge difference in acceleration and power. My wife who usually thinks my mods do next to nothing, drove the Mustang to the store and came back and slammed the keys down and said, "JEEEEEEZZ!!! This car is RIDICULOUS." If even she noticed a huge difference in power, so will you. I can't vouch for the X pipe, but you will certainly make power with the headers. If you plan on installing them yourself as I did, be prepared to spend the entire weekend doing it. It is VERY time consuming and VERY frustrating. If it's in your budget to have a professional do it, then I would do that instead.

    I have a corsa axle back and muffler delete will these headers make my car a lot better sound or is it just more of a small gain of noise

    • It would be difficult to describe sound as it can be subjective. We would highly recommend listening to a few sound clips to see if it were a sound that you liked or disliked.

      AWESOME Product!!!

      Very well built...look great and the sound of the car with the shorty headers and new X-Pipe is KICK-@$$!!! Oh...the BBK video said I would have to disconnect and remove the steering shaft from the car to get the driver-side header on...but it easily went on the car without having to do that!!!

      Improved sound and feel

      I had these installed because of a manifold leak on my stock ones. I had them installed with magnaflow high flow cats and they change the whole sound of the exhaust for the better. You hear a lot more in the front end of the car and it sounds awesome, I have a single turbonetics 60mm turbo installed so I can't use full length headers, but these make a big difference in sound. I can't say if I picked up any power because I didn't have a baseline to go off of. I would highly recommend these if you can't do long tubes. Good quality and cost. Just make sure you use a new FACTORY manifold gasket and not the one from BBK. I didn't mess with BBK's and have no leaks. They also turn a rainbow chrome color because they are not ceramic coated, which is fine with me, still 100x better than the rusty manifold.

      Rubbing

      I had the headers install on my 06 mustang gt. I noticed after the install my steering was a little harder to turn. Took it back to the shop and they noticed once the headers heat up they rub the steering shaft

      Bang for your buck

      Prefer having a nearby shop do the work. Once installed it completely changed the sound of my 05 gt. Sounds amazing with my borla ataks.

      Not as Easy as Described

      Item is not without its issues - clearance with old hardware and fitment with new hardware is a put it on and take it off procedure. Instructions leave out important details of the more difficult procedures. A/C compressor and transmission lines hinder bolt access. New headers take up more room than the stock headers adding to the clearance issues. This will take more than a day unless you have a good ramp, proper jacks, a second set of hands (at times), and additional tools to accomplish the removal and install. Use penetrating fluid in advance to help with the rusty parts!! Videos are short and sweet but do not address the pit falls of tight clearance issues for removal and install. These headers are an improvement over the stock headers, no matter how you interpret this review.

      No Good

      This BBK Headers Are Bad , I Have pypes Off Road With This Headers , It Reduces The Sound Of My Car , With Stock Headers and Pypes Off Road Sounds Way Louder Than This BBK Shorty headers .

      Love my BBKs!

      So I got these installed by a shop. They sound great! They took about a week to settle in but once they did wow. WOT sounds amazing while driving normal gives her a mean deep tone paired with my Borla stingers. I do feel a little bit more of a pull in 1-2 and 2-3 in the low rpm ranges. I definitely dont regret buying these! If you want your mustang to sound like a race car, then these are the headers you want.

      Bark

      These headers sound good, gave my car a more thick and mellow bark with intake and tune and axle backs. Easy to install due to I pulled the drivetrain for all the mods. My only complaint is 1 bolt on the driver side I had to shorten to even get it in the mounting hole. Also should put heat wrap on the ac and brake lines. Good product! No leaks if done right

      Better than expected.

      These look good from what you can see of them but they sound awesome with an x-pipe and axle back. They are a tight fit but fit excellent and are easy to install if you have ratchet wrenches. Just make sure you start all the bolts before you tighten them down. Number 7 cylinder's top bolt had to be trimmed about 3/16 to go in the hole. One of the flange studs didn't want to thread so I would chase the threads with a good tap before installing. I would buy them again. They really woke up my engine with a Bama tune.

      Just put the headers on. These bbk tuned shorties are seriously baddass! Have had hot rods for 30 years now, did the work on all of them myself. These are unbelievable. Took 8 hrs to do. Instructions were perfect. The sound is perfect, and the seat of the pants performance gain is exactly what one would expect. They look great too! For this money, nothing better!,,!

      Worth the price of admission!!

      Got a great deal from a shop to install these. After reading all the posts about how install was "easy", be forewarned!! Not only did it take a 30 year mechanic about 8-10 hours to install but had to remove the motor mounts, starter, jack the motor up and had to remove the a/c compressor to get to one of the bolts on the existing manifold. He told me that he didn't mind it too bad, but really doesn't want to do it again anytime soon! I have back issues and if I had attempted this it would have taken me forever laying on my back. Unless you have a lift and all the tools necessary and experience, pay the money and just have it done! I will say this though, definitely more of giddy up in my mustangs step and the exhaust note sounds noticeably better. Well worth the buy, don't let anyone tell you shorties don't work.......my seat of the pants dyno tells me different!

      bang for the BBK shorty

      For the price and the gains, I'd say the bbk shorty makes for a great mod, if you don't want or can't afford the long tube mod. I'd recommend having a trusted mechanic to do the install, the only reason I didn't perform the instal is that my tools aren't "pro shop grade." Along with the bbk shorty's I've ordered the sr 65 mm throttle body, kandn cai, pypes violator, 373 gears, and a Sct tuner.......and wow!!!!! I should of done these mods a long time ago!!!!

      Perfect fit, great quality

      Installed these to replace the factory manifolds when installing a turbo kit on my car. They look great, and fit perfectly. You will need to remove the steering shaft, starter, and RH motor mount to get these in place but installation was fairly easy. Good buy!

      Good luck.

      Theses we're the hardest and most time consuming part to doing my exhaust. We're taking off my stock manifolds and snapped a stud on each side. I did my whole exhaust it took from Saturday 11:30am to Sunday 6pm. And that's working through the night. Sounds great look great. Had to fix the o2 bung. One of the tubes weren't done correctly, so had to trim to get o2 in. But got that done now it's been bout a month and everyone loves my exhaust.

      Great shorty product!

      Spray pb blaster a night before. Spray again in morning. Let motor heat up and do one side. Heat up again and do other side. Follow the instructions. Fits great. I haven't driven it yet but rpms go up way quicker and speed down quick too. Great sound. Love it! This is my... Well, countless order from AM.
