    Review & Install Video

Hey. everybody, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and in this video, I'm gonna be talking about a few upper and lower control arm options from BBK, available for your '79 to 2010 Mustang. If there's ever been one company that has truly flown the Mustang flag since day one, it's BBK. They've been showing their support for the Mustang and it's owners since the mid-80s, and show no signs of letting up anytime soon. As many of you guys probably already know, BBK makes a wide variety of parts for many different applications, including exhaust systems and cold air intakes, headers, and even suspension components like I'm talking about here today. Now the parts I have with me in this video consist of an upper and lower rear control arm kit, available for both your three and four link Mustang. So when ordering, just make sure you grab the right set for your generation. So the job of the rear upper and lower control arms is to brace and link the rear end of your Mustang to the chassis itself, and ultimately control the movement, hence the name control arm. Now the problem is the factory stuff contains soft rubber factory bushings that do a great job soaking up the excess noise vibration and harshness, but can often times leave a lot on the table when it comes to performance. Now this can cause problems such as bad wheel hop, poor traction, and inconsistent launches, just to name a few. The upper and lower arms from BBK are gonna improve on those areas I just talked about, thanks in part to the high-quality aircraft grade steel, precision welding, and most importantly, the high-performance polyurethane bushings. They're gonna help reduce any excess movement in the rear end, help you put that power down, and improve your handling in the process. Finally here, all the bars have been powder coated in the signature gray from BBK and do include greaseable fittings here to help prolong the lives of the bushings themselves. Since the kit from BBK does include both the upper and lower rear control arms you are gonna be spending a little bit more time in the garage, but overall the install shouldn't be that bad, maybe two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Now we do call this one a full-day install on the site, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of you guys can bang this one out in six hours or less, just to get everything knocked out. So always guys, if you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to reach out to our team of Mustang experts here at AM anytime. They're always standing by ready to give you a hand. So if you guys are looking to put the power down, get off the line a little better, and improve your handling in your 1979 to 2010 Mustang, be sure to check out one of these kits from BBK right here at AmericanMuscle.com

    BBK Control Arms

This is a very good product. It helped to get rid squeaking when accelerating and also helped out with launching and cornering. A big improvement over the wimpy stock control arms.

What kind of grease would you recommend for these control arms?(type, brand, etc)

    PhillipM

    • For the polyurethane bushings in the BBK Rear Upper & Lower Control Arm Kit, we would recommend white lithium grease or chassis grease. For increased longevity, we would recommend a marine grade grease that is more resistant to moisture. As far as brand, we would recommend any well known brands that could be acquired at most hardware stores.

    • The BBK Rear Upper and Lower Control Arm Kit will include the upper and lower control arms and bushings, but will not include bolts.

I just installed these over the weekend, I didn't put any grease around outside of bushings that connect to chassis because instructions said install then lube once installed.. should I have put some grease there even if it didnt say so? Also I gave it 3-5 pumps of grease Im hoping that wasnt too much and I didnt destroy the sleeve inside bushing

    JohnA

    • The BBK Rear Upper & Lower Control Arm Kit does not require grease on the outside, however, you could put some extra grease as it is a friction point.

Hi, I have this kit on my 95 GT and i also have the quad shocks and a pan hard bar from Maximum motorsports. My rear end is super stiff and I wanted to know if removing my quad shocks would be enough to soften the suspension or can i install normal rubber bushings on the uppers? MM suggests stock uppers, but i purchased all the parts and missed that part. thanks Ed

    EdwardD

    • At this time there are no direct fit rubber bushings for the BBK Rear Upper & Lower Control Arm Kit. Removing the quad shocks would not effect ride quality as they are designed to only control axle windup/wheel hop and would not effect up and down travel of the rear axle. If you remove the bushings and measure their specs, you may be able to locate a suitable bushing with a lower durometer, however we do not have any specs on what may work.

What improvements could I expect using these for a street car? Also, what visual effects would I expect to see, as in how would this affect the ride height of my lowered car? I would be installing these on a car that currently has the Eibach Pro Suspension system.

    TommyRC

    • Hello! The BBK Rear Upper & Lower Control Arm Kit will greatly help reduce wheel hop, and allow better traction. These will not affect your ride height.

if installed on my 95 gt, will i still be able to upgrade to a coil over kit? if so any suggestions. thanks

    • You can certainly upgrade to a coil over kit. I would recommend the SR Performance Coil-Over Kit (79-04 All, Excludes IRS) Item #47375 (http://www.americanmuscle.com/srperformance-coilover-7994.html)

      Good kit

My old control arm bushings were wearing out so i figured i'd through out the whole old setup and start fresh. The rear end handles weight transfer much better now - much more manageable at WOT. the polyurethane bushings that these come with are infinitely better than the rubber bushings that come stock. These parts will help you get off the line faster and corner harder.

      bbk upper/lower control arm kit

I have purchased tubular upper/lower control arms in the past on other Foxbodys I have owned and decided to go BBK this time around. The product is well made with no flaws. The are rock solid. I installed these in my garage with jacks and jack stands. This job is not for the "newbie" mechanic it is very difficult by yourself get a buddy to help with the install. I fought and fought to get these on by myself. I won of course teehee but wouldnt do it again by myself on the ground.

      Bang for your buck!!

This was a great choice!! Stoppe all the bouncing during burn outs. It launches better and smoother. My old factory control arms had a squeaking noise but now the noise is no more.

My 85 GT is lowered about 1.5". These control arms really changed the car. My stock control arms and bushings were extremely damaged and old. Highly recommend for a fox!

      High quality and better ride

I had some clunking noises with the stock suspension and after install, the noises are gone and the ride is much better. Easy install, but need to find some videos on youtube to get the finer points. BBK's install video isn't the best and assumes a lot. Overall, the install took 8 hours, but about 2 of that was trying to remove a stubborn bolt. I had no air tools and did it all on jackstands in the garage.

      No more wheel hop

I bought these control arms to get rid of wheel hop and they did just that. I also noticed a little bit of handling improvement and they are a lot stiffer on take off. Another thing I liked is that they give you more room to run your exhaust compared to the stock ones.

All in all, a worthwhile upgrade

For the price, they are definitely worthwhile. The downside is that the kit does not include any of the little packets of high viscosity grease. Also the grease nipples for the upper control arms are positioned at an angle that makes them almost impossible to get to to add grease with a standard grease gun. Also, you have to modify one of the mounting brackets for the E- brake cable that mountsto the lower control arm. Other than that, I definitely felt a difference in handling, for the better! I would recommend this product.

I was originally looking at the more expensive kits like Steeda but I was surprisingly impressed by the quality of these parts at half the price. The car grips the road much better and you feel more in control

This product did not seem to fit right and took a lot of wiggling and twisting of the rear end to finally get them on there, but once on they worked great and I am enjoying them very much.

      No more wheel hop!!

Product went in easy a true direct replacement no mess no fuss. Instructions were spot on but I do recommend doing some basic research on your particular model before starting any upgrades or even basic OE replacements. BBK is a well known company making first rate equipment I have done business with them before and like this time I was completely satisfied with the outcome.
