    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

Hey, guys. Stephanie with americanmuscle.com, here with an overview and an install of the Trufiber Carbon Fiber Dash Kit for the 2015 and newer S-550 Mustang. In this video, we're going to talk about a few different things with this kit. We'll talk about the components, the construction, and of course the install. Now I'll get into more detail in a minute about the install, but I can tell you right now that I'm gonna call this a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter. The Trufiber Carbon Fiber Dash Kit is gonna be for the S-550 owners out there that have a performance-packed car and want to change out the looks of the interior, but that don't necessarily wanna go with the vinyl kit. Nothing against the vinyl kits, but it's really hard to replicate the look of a true carbon fiber and you guys can see here, just by looking at the product, that this is a different type of kit. So this is a four-piece kit. So you're gonna be getting a center dash trim that's cut through the two gauges in the vents of the performance-pack cars. So if you don't have a performance pack, your dash looks a little bit different, and this kit is not gonna work for you. Other than that you're looking at two lower side dash trim pieces and a headlight switch trim. These are the most noticeable things on the dash, so the kit is gonna tie in those pieces and give you more of a complete look rather than just some random carbon pieces. The difference with this kit is the fact that it's made from real carbon fiber. All of these pieces are carbon fiber, so of course they're gonna be lightweight, but strong. The pieces are coated with a clear coat finish that's going to give them UV protection which is nice, because carbon fiber like this can fade over time if it sees a lot of sun and doesn't have any protection. The other thing that I did want to point out about this kit is something that's gonna separate it from some of the other options. These pieces are replacements for your factory parts. This isn't just a stick-on kit that goes over top of your factory dash. You're actually going to be replacing your factory parts with the items in this kit. I think that that's a big thing that pushes the quality of this kit above what you typically see for interior carbon. They're direct replacement pieces, so you won't have to do any drilling. And the fit of these pieces is just like factory, so you end up with a really clean look after the install. That leads me to price. This kit isn't what I consider cheap. You can expect to pay around the thousand dollar mark for it, but honestly that's not really all that surprising to me considering that these are all new dash pieces that completely replace your originals and the fact that this is real, full carbon fiber. Nothing that's real carbon fiber is ever cheap. Now if this is a bit much for you, you do have some other options like the vinyl kits that you guys can always check out instead. Like I mentioned earlier, the install isn't difficult. It's a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter. You can expect to spend about a half hour to an hour to get the kit installed. Now I will say that nothing here is difficult, but I'd just be careful when you remove your factory pieces so you don't end up damaging anything. And I wouldn't over tighten in your carbon pieces either. Wrapping things up here with the Trufiber Dual Gauge Dash Kit. This kit includes four full Carbon Fiber Dash pieces. You're looking at your lower center dash trim, the center dash trim, and your headlight switch trim. These are direct replacements, not stick-on pieces, which make for a factory-like clean look and a merry install. As always, you can check this kit out more online for yourself and for all things Mustang, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com

Reduce Wheel Hop and Deflection. Do love lighting up the rear wheels of your Mustang at a stop light? Sure we all do. However, S550 owners seem to have to deal with more wheel hop issues than previous generations. This is because the 2015 to 2019 Mustangs feature an Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) that is well known for deflecting under rapid acceleration causing loss of traction and unnecessary wheel hop. By installing a BMR Suspension IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit you will virtually eliminate all troublesome cradle deflection and see an increased improvement in rear wheel traction for more impressive tire smoking burnouts.

80%-90% Reduction In Deflection. The BMR IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit uses lockout rings and locating washers to hold the IRS cradles inner sleeve bushings securely in place preventing the cradle from moving in any direction. During testing of the Lockout Kit, BMR documented an 80% to 90% decrease in fore/aft IRS cradle bushing deflection. A bone stock Mustang with no suspension modifications and factory tires will see a 90% or higher reduction in cradle deflection. Where a modified, more race oriented Mustang equipped with stickier performance tires will experience slightly less of a reduction. A BMR test vehicle launched at over 7000 rpm, on drag radial tires, saw about an 80% decrease in bushing deflection. Throughout the entire testing process BMR saw a 95% or higher decrease in vertical deflection under all testing conditions.

Centers IRS Cradle. BMR's IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit not only reduces deflection and wheel hop, but it also centers your Mustangs IRS cradle. Replacing the factory sheer plates, the included cradle braces perfectly centers the IRS cradle under the rear of your Pony. The frame side bolts of the brace locks the cradle securely in place, so that it does not move under any form of spirited driving.

Superior Construction. BMR proudly designs and manufactures their IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit right here in the USA. BMR's Lockout Cradle Braces are made from 1-5/8" diameter, heavy-wall DOM steel tubing for superior strength and extra rigidity. These Lockout Braces are then completed in a durable black hammer-tone powder coated finish for aggressive good looks and long lasting corrosion resistance.

No Increase in NVH. BMR's IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit was engineered to drastically reduce bushing and cradle deflection with little, to no change in NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness). Seeing that there is no noticeable increase in NVH, this BMR IRS Lockout Kit is perfect for street, auto cross and race applications.

Simple Bolt-On Installation. Installation of the BMR Suspension IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit can be completed in about two hours with just basic hand tools. This BMR IRS Lockout Kit utilizes the existing factory bolt holes, so no cutting, welding or extra modifications are needed. Please note that an alignment, by a qualified shop, is highly recommended after installation.

Application. This Black Hammertone BMR Suspension IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit is designed as a direct bolt-on upgrade for use on 2015 to 2019 Fastback Mustangs equipped with the factory Independent Rear Suspension (IRS), including the V6, EcoBoost, GT and Shelby GT350 models. Not intended for use on Convertible models.

What is the difference between this BMR Cradle kit and the SR performance IRS tie down kit? Are they the same? Is one better? Also can I use the Steeda subframe tie downs as well?

    • The SR Performance IRS Tie Down Kit and the BMR IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit will perform the same function in the same manner. Both kits can be used in conjunction with the Steeda IRS Subframe Braces

This kit removes the factory IRS brace plate. I have Steeda irs braces now. Will this still work seeing that one Steeda bolt will have nothing to mount to?

    • The BMR IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit would not be compatible with the Steeda IRS Braces.

Do I want to upgrade to urethane bushings when I install these or is it not necessary?

    • The BMR IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit can be used with rubber or poly bushings without issues. Upgrading to poly bushings will maximize the benefits you see from this kit at the expense of some ride comfort.

I see from the reviews that all the installs are done on the GT model. Can this kit along with other suspension mods benefit the 3.7 V6 owner?

    • The BMR IRS Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit will certainly benefit the 3.7L models just as well as the 5.0 owners! Same goes with all other suspension components.

Why won't this kit fit a convertible? Can it be modified to fit?

    • The convertible suspension is setup differently than the fastback since the weight has to be redistributed which is why this will not be able to fit.

Big difference. Greatly reduced wheel hop. At lower rpm’s some wheel hop occurs but when at higher rpm’s there was virtually no wheel hop.

The marketing is a bit misleading

Definitely a noticeable difference, but yet again the marketing blurbs ignore physics. These will help slightly with wheel hop. Wheel hop (in the purely vertical sense) is caused by your shocks/springs being unable to control the unsprung weight of the vehicle (everything outboard of the inboard suspension arm pivots). This product does not do that. It helps reduce fore/aft subframe movement which does give you a much more settled, planted driving feel and sets you up for a more predictable, tunable suspension. I didn't notice any extra NVH but I'm also running a custom muffler delete. Took a couple hours to install starting from driving the car onto an alignment lift and using its center jack and ending with driving it off.

      Stop the hop

The cradle lockout kit works. Wheel hop was eliminated. I matched these with Steeda's cradle bushing kit to make sure the rear sub frame was centered. They are expensive but they are a quality piece. Installation is simple and took me 1 hour once the vehicle was placed on jack stands and that was taking my time.

      I like It

pretty straight forward install. I did this install after installing the ford performance street Pack and upgraded tire and wheel's but even with that the car does feel like it wants to stay straight even when punching it in a straight line or coming out of a turn w/no wheel hop like other reviews said if this was the only thing you did suspension wise I'm sure you would really tell the difference in wheel hop

      Pretty Impressed

At first I was leaning towards the STEEDA cradle bushing supports, but after having dealt with Steeda’s personal customer service (not americanmuscle) and seeing how unprofessional and rude they were that was enough for me to choose BMR’s cradle bushing lockout kit and I’m glad I did. At first I didn’t notice a difference but when I started to carve some canyons and give s little more spirited driving I defenitely noticed the difference. Simple and plain I’m impressed. You do get less wheel hop and the car does feel more planted. I like them I can’t complain. The install was easy and yes you can do one side at a time so you don’t need any pole jacks just one single jack. I’ll give it 4.5 stars because I did notice a slight amount of creaky noise increase.

      Excellent product

The kit is high quality, easy to install and makes a huge difference in controlling wheel hop. A nice bonus is improved off-the-line traction and a more planted feel to the rear end. There is no perceptible difference in NVH but the rear of the car does feel firmer. I highly recommend this kit if you have concerns about wheel hop when launching your Mustang.

The part that should have been stock.

First impressions after install, BIG SMILE ON FACE. My stang is planted, I feel very confident accelerating out of turns, as opposed to the rear "wiggle" i felt before. Install took just under an hour, jack and jack stands. Heres a hint, if your gonna lower your car make sure and install this at the same time. Will save you the hassle of lowering the cradle more than once, like I had to. Definetly recommend this. Like others have said, car handles like "on rails".

      Worked better than I expected

BMR products have a nice powdercoated finish. Solved the wheel hop issue on my Roush Phase 2 superchargered 2017 GT. Straight forward install. I used Steeda alignment bushings and Steeda shims instead of the BMR ones sold with this lockout kit. This provided less movement in the rear IRS. Very satisfied with the end results!

      Please Read entirely Extensive-Experience/Opinion

First I want to say this kit fits just as it should and does exactly what they claim That’s t why I give it 5 Stars LOCKS DOWN CRADLE RIGIDLY! I chose this kit for My 2017 GT Performance Pack 373 gears, @ 5000 Miles, instead of the Steeda because it came with the heavy duty subframe brackets which are an absolute necessity if you plan on locking down the cradle and eliminating any give what so ever I’m sure without these extra heavy duty brackets that the cradle bolts would be absorbing all the force and vibrations at back which no doubtedly would end up at very least coming loose over time, these brackets also serve to keep cradle in align, I also installed at the same time the Steeda alignment kit that is made to go with BMR’s cradle lock down kit, combining both of these kits made it absolutely impossible for the cradle to be fastened out of align, With car on jack stands at rear pinch welds, I supported rear end with floor jack at center and unbolted only one side at a time starting with driver side then lowering it down just enough to get top cups in place put a touch of silicone grease inside cup to help it settle into position when you start to torque it down. For me everything went into place and aligned finger tight , then I torqued it down to 129 ft lbs, repeat steps for other side. This almost went the same But I had an almost impossible time getting the front right cradle bolt started, the back one aligned finger tight without any problems but the front was far enough off center that with alignment post and the bracket if inserted in the bushing it wouldn’t allow the bolt to even start in the threads So I loosened driver side but that didn’t help either the only way the bolt would start was if I Kept the bracket and alignment post at the bottom edge of the cradle bushing then the bolt would barely start due to length which concerned me it may cross thread or strip out before it was started good, to help I put a touch of oil on bracket post and alignment dowle so when I started cranking on bolt it would help the bracket slip over up into the bushing hole and slide into place, after that I was able to torque it and the other cradle bolts down, Warning the cradle bolts have a self aligning type thread at there tip so it would be VERY EASY TO CROSS THREAD IF CAUTION IS NOT TAKEN OR AN IMPACT WERE TO BE USED.once this kit is installed your Cradle is no longer Rubber mounted or isolated from the metal chassis, which DOES make any HARMONICS-road noises, rear end noises, driveline noises you had previously much more NOTICEABLE , Listen to your car CLOSELY PRIOR so you will no what to expect. IF YOU DONT PLAN ON TRACKING YOUR CAR DONT INSTALL THIS KIT YOU DONT NEED IT. Prior to this kit I installed Steeda adjustable differential bushings 80 durometer, it too effects Harmonic noises slightly . MY REASON FOR TRYING THESE COMPONENTS WAS HOPES THAT IT WOULD LESSEN THE BUMPING SOUNDS MY CAR HAS WHILE SHIFTING GEARS AND LETTING ON AND OFF ACCELERATOR INSTEAD IT MADE IT WORSE, I know the kits purpose is to eliminate wheel hop My wheel hop was eliminated by removing the Perelli P Zeros and replcaing with Michelin Pilot sport A/S 3 for winter and super sports in the summer . My finale thoughts are that, Ford has rubber isolated all components of the IRS to control ITS HARMONICS AND ABSORB ALL THE DRIVELINE NOISES AND LOAD SHOCK THAT EXIST, MORE SO ON MANUAL TRANSMISSIONED MODELS AND PERFORMANCE PACK CARS WITH 373 gears, BY DOING SO YOU gain longevity of all components attached when a car with this much power is driven Hard Day after Day all while still surviving stop and go traffic! I am a retired Auto Technician THERES PROS AND CONS to this kit! An everyday driver with no intentions of going to the track will see no positive gains He will hear all slack in the driveline more than before, knowing long term it can’t be good for all the components involved. My car has always had driveline clanking in stop and go traffic but now it is way more distinct. I can hear everything that is going on in rear, even over My cars Corsa Extreme Cat Back Exhaust. I will be removing this kit when I install the Ford Performance Track Handling Suspension kit. If you go to the drag strip ALOT with your car then this kit combined with other rigid components is a must.
